Yes. California should do exactly that. Also, California should secede. And when the slack jawed yokels of Arkansas and the like come crawling because they finally figured out where their medicare comes from, make a deal.
Yup. Colorado has a proud history of pushing back. (1939-1943) Governor Ralph L. Carr fought and spoke out openly against the internment of Japanese-Americans as "inhumane and unconstitutional." He was the only governor to do so.
@Ryan It is very useful to have immigration laws without enforcing them. It creates a class of workers that can't ask for government benefits, but still have to pay things like sales tax. That helps out with the deficit. Businesses benefit too - having workers who can't take legal action against you is great for the bottom line. Part of the country wants them out, part of the country wants them legal, so the people making money off it step in and select "unenforced, but unfair laws" as the "compromise".
Frasereder236 unfortunately, most of these top Republicans only like the "States rights" rhetoric when the federal government is doing something they don't like. When it's a federal gun law, then it's unfair and should be left to the states. When it's undocumented immigrants then suddenly that principle isn't so important any more.
I was really proud of our mayor, Sylvester Turner, as well. He committed Houston as a sanctuary city and even lauded the protesters along with everyone who made the Super Bowl run so smoothly. I'm glad that local governments are stepping up in this time of need.
Same! I know that Parker had her own set of issues (as does every mayor or human being in general), so it's been interesting to watch Turner step into the Houston she molded. Turner has such a reverence and intent about him; he's inspiring.
Don't need to look them up. Live outside Detroit, where we supposedly have them too. And I can tell you that they are created by scared white people shutting the newly arrived out of their communities. When you shut people out and make them feel unwelcome you cannot then complain that those you have shut out decide to do the same to you in their communities. And Europe is a horrible example of proper immigrant integration into a community. They're all still obsessed with all the baggage of The Old World because they are The Old World. The USA is the place people have come for centuries to leave behind the baggage of The Old World. We were always the nation that solved the problem of mingled cultures by stressing the importance of mingled cultures. Sure, we stumbled and some people weren't assimilated as well or as quickly as they should have been but, in the end, those stumbles just prove to the rest of the world that it's the trying that makes it work. Not some innate American Exceptionalism. Or some law established at the founding. Just the shared belief that we are here for a fresh start and everyone else deserves the same chance at that start that we have received. You provide a sense of inclusion, you open your community and make them a part of it and there is no better neighbor than one who has an entirely different background than you do. As evidenced by a little place called Dearborn, MI where there are no Jihadists or beheadings or bombings or other such nonsense despite being the chosen settling location for countless Arabs and Muslims over the last several generations. Why? Because when you make people feel at home they start to behave as if they are. Something those European cities don't do because they're too busy trying to keep their culture isolated, static and stagnating.
Obviously within reason. You can't be serious by implying something like this makes the entire federal government null, you're oversimplifying the whole infrastructure of our gov't. And it is unconstitutional: " A 1997 case, Printz v. United States, says that the federal government may never order local officials to enforce federal law; the famous 2012 Affordable Care Act case, National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius, says that the government cannot use the threat of large funding cuts to “coerce” states into adopting federally demanded policies." Anyway, in a way Trump might be "good" for us in rising bigger questions and flaws within our systems. That is if he doesn't ruin everything in the next 4 years.
funny, I know! Somebody show us where the constitution says the fed gov't is required to fund cities. It DOES SAY the feds are required to maintain the border.
i LIVE in a Sanctuary city, and my high school had a ton of kids who came here illegally. If one of my fellow classmates family members get's in trouble for speeding and the punishment was deportation, that is truly unjust. There's a reason why the US is called the "land of opportunity", these ppl came here to start over and to raise a family in a better country than their own. For everyone who is for deporting illegal immigrants, I want you to think; back when your own family came to the states, if they had to get deported back to their country, would they be happy about it? Would they want to pack up all of their pocessions into a suitcase and leave freely? The answer is No. Because without your family immigrating over to the states, you would not be standing where you are today
Kayla Elaine yes if my mother who came from Venezuela legally came here illegally she should have to go back. But she did it legally and now people are basically just saying that people who try and do things the right way are idiots
Dave Truth I don't know why but he has this really odd, pitiful appearance to him, like he's a hostage in an inescapable situation ala Melania. It's pretty sad to look at, at times...
I can't help feeling sorry for him. I mean, talk about 'Horrible Bosses'! (Record one of his tirades on your phone, Sean, and release it a week before the RNC in 2020. Like that girl did in The Devil wears Prada.)
Thank you Sam, I didn't know of a way to describe Trump showing off these executive orders but you. It was on the tip of my tongue and it was driving me crazy
Though Trump is not making the life easy for many immigrants.. he made life more interesting for Samantha, Stephen, Conan, Trevor nd soon for John.. lol.. Love you Sam..nailed it as always
I can't wait until donny accidentaly deports himself; after all, he is his mother's anchor baby(she was born in Scotland). He has already talked about abolishing the automatic citizenship by birth, and allowing illegal immigrants to be deported with their born in America babies, who would no longer be considered legitimate citizens. It's not hard to imagine bannon, slipping it into one of the EO's he is signing, (along with another promotion for bannon himself, of course - which would be, that after donny was deported, he would be made emperor-in-chief). IMPEACHMENT 2017 - it'll be just PEACHY!
I'd say for violating the emoluments clause if anything. As soon as a foreign government does something favorable for the Trump brand (ie relaxing regulations to allow a building permit) being managed by his kids (not a blind trust) he will be culpable for violating this clause.
I live in Durham, New Hampshire, which is in the process of trying to become a sanctuary city! There has never been more letters to the town council over any topic before, but the letters are 50/50 for support and opposition. Like this comment to show support for us becoming a sanctuary city!
CN what I'm Saiyan? A commitment to care for the vulnerable. A willingness to stand up to a bully. Being responsible to and respectful of his office. Understanding that he is EVERYONE'S mayor, that there can be no favorites or scapegoats. That is what I mean. Totally not Trump.
You need to realise that what Trump supporters take away from this video is: "huh! so, Mayors are an obstacle eh? We need to get our people into those positions, just like we did with all other positions up and down the ticket." If you value the stand those Mayors are taking, you need to vote when mayor, or city councilperson, or any legislative local, state or national representative is up for election, next time; *every time*, because, those opposed to your compassion *will* be.
+Fzmh No, and yes. As I meant, compassion will have been shown, and people will be opposed to the result of that action, then, no, it's very simple. If you want to pretend that I meant heartless monsters who actively oppose compassion, irregardless of the context; who are opposed to the very notion of compassion, and oppose it everywhere, in any form; then, reductively, I suppose, yes. It certainly is more complicated than that. Happily though, I would not condescend to the reader (yourself included) such as to necessitate that literalist semantic interpretations need be explained in full, and it can therefore sensibly left in ellipsis. If you prefer, you're welcome to actually insert the elided, "the result of", in between 'to', and, 'your', when you read it back. I'd prefer cross-examination of the substance of the argument, rather than semantics, but you don't get to choose online, and must take all contributions; so, thank you for yours. Best Wishes,
+Joe S I don't agree with your interpretation of things. But, I'm glad you still get the chance to air opposing views to mine, and that we can still have what used to be called honest disagreements.
I live in the Chicago area which is a sanctuary city. I didn't know this, but I'm glad we are. Chicago already has enough problems without arresting people hoping for a better life.
I'm very proud of my mayor, the mayor of Cincinnati John Cranley declaring Cincinnati a sanctuary city and to keep Cincinnati a home of immigration, which is something I've always loved about Cincinnati and the country itself.
Samantha! Samantha! The censorship police are allowing me to speak! I...think...I can say I really like you. Gee gosh golly my eyes are tearing up because they approved my message! :)
I'm proud to be born and raised in a Sanctuary city. SFC. Also my parents came with no documentation due to war in central america not everyone is a criminal some people just dont want to get killed in their home country nor do they want their kids to grow up in a war zone.
This made me tear up a little bit. I'm so thankful for the people who do their best to keep protecting your great nation and the people in it. As a european I worry so much for you guys (well, and for us, let's be real, if president tiny hands throws a tantrum and hits the button we're all doomed) and seeing people stand up to this type of national bullying really cheers me up. Good luck guys.
Hey Sam, we need a mainstream comedian like another Al Franken to run for office. Any office. Because "they get it". Their job is to dissect what's going on and make it funny. But, in the process they know and learn what's really going on. Sad, our media doesn't do that anymore. I'm old and from the Walter Cronkite era. Wish we were still there.
BREAKING: Trump proposes wall to extend around California & sanctuary cities too! #NoBanNoWall(s)... (satire, but...) #GringoClandestino #Solidarity #SomosUno THANK YOU Samantha Bee for all you do!!!
Wow Guliani looked so much better with a brain and a soul
Ladygothii12 cuz he didn't have crazy bulging eyes with extra wrinkle flaps
Yep, those didn't come until after the lobotomy.
He's like a reverse Dorian Gray. His painting in the attic looks amazing I bet.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That's what happens after lead poisoning. People get mad. No joking.
I have so much respect for the mayor of Boston now, what a guy!
Alex Marr I guess he wasn't a fan of "Fallout 4". That's the direction Trump is taking us.
+William Loewen sure kid because some one really wants to start nuclear war no ones that dumb oh wait there's you.
Alex Marr next
NYC is a sanctuary city. Why do you think Melania Trump won't leave there.
Hogman Go LOL nice one
She probably has a hot Jamaican or Puerto Rican VERY personal trainer she ain't giving up for nobody, LOL
Hogman Go 😂
Hogman Go good point!
BOOM!
Well, maybe california should stop paying federal taxes then.
Considering the amount of federal taxes I have to pay this year, I'm all for that.
Yes. California should do exactly that. Also, California should secede. And when the slack jawed yokels of Arkansas and the like come crawling because they finally figured out where their medicare comes from, make a deal.
new york will join you guys 🤔
Cris Bernabe
Chicago and Pennsylvania too. how about the big money states stop funding the ignorant rampage bible thumping srates
Connecticut has your back
Yes, here in Colorado it is a sanctuary state. It is one of many reasons that it is the best place to live.
Yup. Colorado has a proud history of pushing back. (1939-1943) Governor Ralph L. Carr fought and spoke out openly against the internment of Japanese-Americans as "inhumane and unconstitutional." He was the only governor to do so.
So why even have Immigration laws if we are not going to enforce them? No green cards, no visa's
Matt Perry Then laws are unnecessary. That's the logical conclusion of your argument
jd190d I think Colorado could be the next blue state
My jaw literally dropped at hearing States' rights coupled with something NOT backwards and archaic!
Oh my lord, me too. I was stunned.
Frasereder236 unfortunately, most of these top Republicans only like the "States rights" rhetoric when the federal government is doing something they don't like. When it's a federal gun law, then it's unfair and should be left to the states. When it's undocumented immigrants then suddenly that principle isn't so important any more.
Frasereder236 not literally
Krombopulos Michael that because it's the federal government's responsibility to control the border and immigration policies.
How many should be shot at the border to make you happy? Just give us a body count to when your humanity is going to kick in.
"States Rights...not just for racists"
Great slogan!
I can't look at Sean Spicer anymore without seeing Melissa McCarthy.
I personally think back to when he referenced My Little Pony
CN what I'm Saiyan? Life is memes now
I was really proud of our mayor, Sylvester Turner, as well. He committed Houston as a sanctuary city and even lauded the protesters along with everyone who made the Super Bowl run so smoothly. I'm glad that local governments are stepping up in this time of need.

Thank goodness we have Samantha Bee.

States rights, It's not just for racists any more :)
Words cannot express how much I love Samantha Bee... Definitely the smartest and funniest night time host
Ghazi fight me.
I know my city will be just fine without federal aid but it's unconstitutional for this to even happen. it's ridiculous
Obviously within reason. You can't be serious by implying something like this makes the entire federal government null, you're oversimplifying the whole infrastructure of our gov't. +roxslide. So another reason to impeach. Nice :)
roxslide how is it unconstituonal? Another lib that does know what they are talking about.
funny, I know! Somebody show us where the constitution says the fed gov't is required to fund cities. It DOES SAY the feds are required to maintain the border.
Are you serious. I love it when idiots try to give legal advice.
Ahh! I love you and your crew! Keep it going, keep it strong! We need these stories told! Now... off to yell at my reps here in Ohio..
Americas mayors did go on TV for a hurricane and that's hurricane Trump
Sam , happy 1 year. I laugh and I cry, thank you
Thanks Samantha and Thanks to all the mayors
When Quasimodo shouted "SANCTUARY!" some of my faith in humanity was restored. Good choice of clip. Bravo.
So proud, informed and entertained that I applauded aloud.
if he tries to stop funding states. then those states shouldn't pay federal taxes.
I am so very proud to be a constituent of both Mayor Walsh AND Mayor Curtatone. You guys are what makes America great!
Thank You Samantha Bee
Colorado!!!! LOVE YOU!!! been here since the age of nine!!! #MexicanlivinginAmerica

That fruit loop rainbow from the little girl is impressive. Not sure I ever did crafts that well as a kid.
It's better then Trump's!
The Hunchback of Notre Dame... brings back childhood memories!
Yeah Fox News move to Des Moines.
clipobserver But I like Des Moine. :( No felafel at 3 a.m. that's for sure.
It's funny because when she flashed that map of sanctuary cities Des Moines was on it. Or did you miss that blob blue in the middle of Iowa?
clipobserver we don't want them here.
My Bad also I did see that story on ESPN about this high school football team in Des Moines. Maybe have Fox News go to Alabama or Mississippi.
When will the show release the "States' Rights: Not Just for Racists Anymore!" tee, Ms Bee?
"States' Rights: Not just for racists anymore!" Might make a good topic of conversation in my political science class.
Is it me or does Sean Spincter grate everyone the wrong way..
(S?)He sure does
He looks like the type of person who got beat up alot at school because...... Well just look at that face.
Dave Truth I don't know why but he has this really odd, pitiful appearance to him, like he's a hostage in an inescapable situation ala Melania. It's pretty sad to look at, at times...

5:14 Thanks, Mayor Walsh. You make Boston proud.

Barry Kaine if you impeach Trump then you get Pence. I'm sure you really want that
Amend constitution for automatic citizenship. It's nonsense.
I'd say for violating the emoluments clause if anything. As soon as a foreign government does something favorable for the Trump brand (ie relaxing regulations to allow a building permit) being managed by his kids (not a blind trust) he will be culpable for violating this clause.
Samantha keeping it💯 👍😁

I love Samantha Bee! She's so smart and quick-witted. And just right on! I feel like she protects us all.
She always makes me feel better Sam Bee YOU ROCK!!!!!
We will see this Republican Administration in court.

Wow, she gone an got her an edge! Great Stuff, Sam!!!
Thank you, real America. ❤️
THANK YOU for the cities and people that won't tear apart families for passing a red light 💓💓💓
Marty Walsh for President!!!! THAT is what a REAL president sounds like!!!
Are you referring to words or accent?
CN what I'm Saiyan? A commitment to care for the vulnerable. A willingness to stand up to a bully. Being responsible to and respectful of his office. Understanding that he is EVERYONE'S mayor, that there can be no favorites or scapegoats. That is what I mean. Totally not Trump.
Marty and Elizabeth Warren make me proud to live in MASS. Either would be a fantastic choice for POTUS.
Oh God stop it, just s t o p i t..... Warren, loon, like the old crazy lady at the bingo hall, low IQ Lizzy?
You know I was considering "stop"-ing it, as you say, but you've convinced me to do the opposite. Thanks for bringing me to my senses.

I'd prefer cross-examination of the substance of the argument, rather than semantics, but you don't get to choose online, and must take all contributions; so, thank you for yours.
Best Wishes,
+Fzmh I can certainly find some solidarity with you on that conclusion; fair comment.
Best Wishes.
+Joe S I don't agree with your interpretation of things. But, I'm glad you still get the chance to air opposing views to mine, and that we can still have what used to be called honest disagreements.
Okay, I'm hooked. Thanks Sam. More please!
I almost cried. Love the mayors of New York!
Proud to have grown up in Boston! Tolerance and solidarity!
Fredrika Jacobsson You are totally sarcastic, yes?
No, I am not
Fredrika Jacobsson : Read Boston's history
MNN SHK I'm not concerned with Boston history, I'm applauding the positive actions mentioned in this video. Obviously. How are you even confused?
Feels good to look at the comment section and see sanity, to bad it won't last when this becomes trending
I know, right...?
hilarious. the gremlins.
only found this channel today, its brilliant.
I live in the Chicago area which is a sanctuary city. I didn't know this, but I'm glad we are. Chicago already has enough problems without arresting people hoping for a better life.
Mayor Walsh, you did good.
Anarchy! Anarchy! Anarchy!
Still America's beauty shines through amazing people and deep laughs!!!!!
The greatest danger to our future is apathy... Love you Samantha Bee!
Don't give federal funding then don't expect us to pay federal taxes.
Jhefferson Barros don’t pay federal taxes expect to go to jail
I'm very proud of my mayor, the mayor of Cincinnati John Cranley declaring Cincinnati a sanctuary city and to keep Cincinnati a home of immigration, which is something I've always loved about Cincinnati and the country itself.
Thank you Samantha.
Not State, but County rights! Yes!
What was that music at the beginning at around 1:50.
If only the victims of the European invaders had been this xenophobic...
What is the music playing during the Fox News anarchy segment? Sounds familiar
Never stop being amazing, Samantha Bee.
this is one of those feel good pieces that reminds you that there are still good people in the world.
I love that she mentiones her staff so frequently
Why did no one slip him a thing that said he gives up the presidency and will leave with the former VP.
In times like these, I'm especially proud to be from Boston.
Love love love this so much! I just wish it wasn't so necessary. Also the fact that so many people believe trump is just so ridiculous.
Samantha! Samantha! The censorship police are allowing me to speak! I...think...I can say I really like you. Gee gosh golly my eyes are tearing up because they approved my message! :)
So much for the party of "states rights!"
Sam Bee you are awesome!
I'm proud to be born and raised in a Sanctuary city. SFC. Also my parents came with no documentation due to war in central america not everyone is a criminal some people just dont want to get killed in their home country nor do they want their kids to grow up in a war zone.
Glasgow loves your show keep up the good work x
This made me tear up a little bit. I'm so thankful for the people who do their best to keep protecting your great nation and the people in it. As a european I worry so much for you guys (well, and for us, let's be real, if president tiny hands throws a tantrum and hits the button we're all doomed) and seeing people stand up to this type of national bullying really cheers me up. 7:28 I didn't expect that to make me cry but it did.
I need to go to Scotland to document how to perfectly Troll Trump!
Love the jacket, Sam. Looks amazing.
That money doesn't go to that. The only thing is that police officers are not gonna be use as ice officers.
On another note, I would love to know where to get Sam's blazer here.
i'm just glad they had the grace to upload clips to youtube. god thank you for unfettered media consumption

"*people are saying" 😂
i have to admit that i teared up when i heard what the mayor of boston said.
they been deporting them
Erie County is a sanctuary county?! That's awesome!
Sam:
Why are the plastic bottled sodas upside-down in the hot-dog sketch?
Nestor Makhno would like a word with Fox about the definition of ANARCHY!.
Boston is an awesome group of people and a great city.
BREAKING: Trump proposes wall to extend around California & sanctuary cities too! #NoBanNoWall(s)... (satire, but...)
#GringoClandestino #Solidarity #SomosUno THANK YOU Samantha Bee for all you do!!!
Doesn't the House have the power of the purse? Can a president even do that?
Please make the states' rights image a shirt!!! Also, never stop working. Your show is fantastic.
Maybe America should do a better job of not letting them in in the first place.
I made several oppositions to THE president & guess what after less than 30 seconds they disappear STRANGE
Senator Daylin Leach for President. He gets what we are dealing with...as opposed to the other democrats who have all but disappeared.
