    thanks for posting these videos. I have some experience with other kinds of Lithium cells, (prismatic pouches and cylindrical cells) but when a battery from a unibody MacBook landed in my lap I didn't know exactly where to start. I've got it apart and will start testing with a balance charger tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time to show us your methods!

    Good job
    But bad audio
    HOW to connect the batteries to BMS?
    IS THERE any job to do in setting in labtop when replace the battery.

    What types of thing do you reused these batteries for? I imaging you can't use them for anything that pulls to many amps because the terminal leads are pretty thin. Great couple of videos though. Good work!

      Thanks. You are right anything lowish amps. But if you have enough in parallel you can draw more amps. I am planning to use these for the solar shed and other smaller projects.

    Thanks for this video! DO you have the datasheet of the cell?

    I got a box full of these still in their battery cases. can you link you video on salvaging these things. so much glue!

      Maybe some other model Apple packs?

      @@brettwatty101 Maybe part 3 can show how you use them for different applications? For example : Power banks or battery replacement on different battery powered appliances like a handheld drill.

    Thanks - very informative. I have a power bank with 6 lipo 3.7v cells in it - it shorted out the first time I plugged the charger into to about 4 years ago and I never got round to doing anything with it. I just pulled it apart - curious to know whether the cells will still charge after such a long period? also curious to know whether they are in fact the stated capacity - power bank capacity stated at 23000mah making each cell 3800mah? they are about 6mmx40mmx100mm, is there some way to look up the capacity from serial codes?

    • @brettwatty101
      @brettwatty101  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on the quality of the cells and if they went under voltage for too long. If they are Chinese cell it may be hard to find the actual original capacity

    Thanks man. I have a few of these and was wiring up 7 in series for a 24 v block and cant seem to get bms and unit working. Can you do a few ways to wire them. Thanks and good day

    Do you build anything with these? I was thinking about making a portable battery pack.

      I used those batteries in this video: th-cam.com/video/7klmE35WzFc/w-d-xo.html

    Good bro I just had a macbook pro battery I left on my laptop and suddenly says to service. I didn't use it long enough for the battery pack to be drained. So I teared it open, and measured all three packs while connected I didn't isolate each cell, frist pack had 3.4 , second 3.4 last one had 0.5 something. So I'm thinking the last Lion pack by some reason went really low. I don't see its swollen so I don't know what happened. What do you recommend me ? I have a bench lab supply.

      Hey mate, you can try to charge each pair in series individually up to 4.2V. I would only do 50-100 Milli Amps on the 0.5v one until it gets to 3V+. The trouble you may have is that the BMS is locked into fault mode.

      @@brettwatty101 Great !. So I need to islate each battery pack to charge ?. The measurements I did were all connected together , on each tab of battery pair. Can I still charge them while being connected all together? maybe I sound stupid, but need to understand clearly. I measured black and red wire and I have 6 volts when I should have around 11.1 as each pair has 3.7v but they're connected in parallel to increase amps.

    • @brettwatty101
      @brettwatty101  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daaudiome they can be connected together. Just be careful of your polarity. Check with your voltmeter first.

      @@brettwatty101 Thanks again, can you check the video I made th-cam.com/video/sVdZO5GfMIc/w-d-xo.html
      See there's a pack which has a different polarity from the rest. It's the one near the charger controller pcb.

      Cicadas, the 4x homemade charger now has a variable speed controlled fan now and a 80mm instead of a 35mm so much quieter now.

    Hello. Can I Just buy the cells and replace?

    • @brettwatty101
      @brettwatty101  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible but the BMS may have already locked itself from a battery failure or it has reached maximum programmed discharge cycles "for safety" (more like making money)

    Hi, is it possible to replace the macbook pro 2012 (a1322) cell battery with a macbook white cell battery (a1185)? considering the same 6 cells, which differ in voltage (10.95V for a1322 and 10.8V for a1185). Thank you

    I went a bit mad before I knew much about buying old laptop batteries and have quit a few of these does anyone know their C rating as li po's are usually quite high and I've bought one of those portable spot welders and thought I could extend it a bit I do have a sun 787G welder but I hate the way it keeps tripping the house fuse if Itry to turn it up and I just need to finish my bikes 10s10p 36v battery pack.
