Thank you. 5 years later and this video still is helping people out. Took me about 25 cycles. Glad this video came up during the search.. spend 30 minutes searching for the fix until this video was recommended by youtube. Sent you some money for a coffee :) thanks!

It Worked!!! I had a 15 year old machine that stopped working and after watching this video I kept repeating the cycle and taking the water canister on and off and it started working again!!! It took about 40 tries so don't give up!!!

We can send a man to the moon, and a rover to mars - but Nespresso can't make a machine that is reliable or with a simple way to reset when these "air pockets" happen. . This FINALLY worked after several attempts, and waiting a few hours. I was almost ready to send this to the landfill. Patience pays off. THANKS!

Thank you very much! It worked. After 5 years in storage. Took about 15-20 failed cycles in descale mode. Before your video tried blowing, ziplock bags, almost started taking it apart, but didn't have the right tools. Your patience on the phone with tech support saved many people lots of time and hassle. Truly appreciated.

I stored my machine for more than 2 years and it was not working anymore. I called the company and she told me to pump the container back, but the water still did not flow. But while doing it while the machine is running as you have described, it worked! But I pumped more than twenty times trying both buttons and finally the water came out! Thank you very much for your video.

Tried your trouble-shooting tips as well as the hot water in canister. Finally removed the canister and flipped it over. Using the paperclip, pushed it through each of the open slats within the the protruding pump connection, and it worked!

This worked for my machine too! Thank you so much! Something else that I learned was that you can train the big cup to fill to size by holding down the large button until your cup is full and it will remember that amount of liquid!

Well, I'd already written off our 8 year old Citiz when it stopped passing water (excuse the phrase!). I went and bought a new one at great expense. I then thought I'd strip the old one down and see just how it works. Came on TH-cam to find out how and found your video instead. I followed your instructions and now it works perfectly!! Guess I'll give the old one to my daughter. It could so easily have gone into the recycling. Thanks!

Thank you!! Bought this Citiz Nespresso machine out of a garage sale and the owner said they had 3 and didn’t use that one. It took about 10 cycles to start seeing bubbles in the tank and 15 cycles for the water to fully flow. You’re a life saver! 🥰

Hallelujah! I tried all those other crazy things and they didn't work. It probably took me 20 cycles to make it happen, but I finally had an amazing cup of coffee! It was in storage for a long time. Works perfect now. Thank you for sharing.

I, too, was losing hope. After 40+ cycles of doing this, nothing. "Maybe I have the one machine that this won't work for" I thought. But then, just as I was about to throw in the towel, I heard a faint bubbling sound, and after about the 45th attempt, I finally got water out. My machine is now working perfectly! Thank you so much for this video!! This WILL work, keep going!

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video. I was just about ready to try tearing apart my machine when I found your video. Mine had been in storage for a couple of years but hadn’t seen much use before it went on the shelf so I was surprised and frustrated when I found it wouldn’t pump water. I tried the ziplock bag to no avail; I tried a turkey baster which also didn’t work. This method didn’t work immediately and so instead of raising and lowering the reservoir (the tab on the machine made that a bit of a challenge), I just started wiggling it from side-to-side. Just when I was about to call it another failure, it began to sound different, then voilá, expresso!

Thank you very much. I had the same problem after putting away this machine for several years after I switched to K-cup machine. I added a cup of vinegar to your "secret" formular. Hi Holly, I had my CITIZ sitting in storage for like 4 years, finally decided to pull it out and use it and it basically wouldn't pump water. I spent hours trying to figure it out just like you. Thank you for the video! I also followed through but the key here is make sure you use VERY HOT water. I tried 15 cycles with warm tap water at first and did not work. The second the Nespresso customer service representative told me to use HOT HOT water, the water came out. I filled half boiled water and half room tap water in reservoir, so the water came out right away! Good luck!

I had already given up on my machine which was a hand-me-down from my dad who never used it. But today I got one last spark of determination and decided to try it one more time. Previously I had tried what seemed like all possible solutions for this problem...
But I found this video that I hadn't seen before and gave it a go. I almost gave this up too until I read the comments because it took me maybe 50 runs before mine started pumping water😅 But I'm glad I stuck with it cause now I can enjoy my coffee almost instantly❤

No joke, you are the Nespresso hero! After sitting in storage for 3+ years we decided to take out the Nespresso machine. After cleaning the dust on the outside, I hit the button and no water came out, just the buzzing sound. Next, I find this video and it took me like 10 minutes of working her technique before the water got through the clog and started flowing. My wife was upstairs probably thinking I lost it and was taking my anger out on the Nespresso machine. Lol. Pro tip: you don't have to fully remove the water tank. Just tip it back and away and then put it back in place. As long as you momentarily break suction at the bottom and then reconnect, you will force the water down and into the system. No need to completely lift the tank. I might have fixed mine faster had I not removed the tank each time at first.

Thanks so much for this tutorial!

Yes! This fix worked perfectly. Be persistent; it took numerous iterations of working the water reservoir...I'd lost the siphon by running the water dry. Try not to do that. It happened to me once before, and I got it working again. This time around, it was more difficult...Thank you for this remedy. I've had early model (Essenza) for >10yrs, and it works perfectly. I clean it after every use by just run water through.

May angels smile down on you kindly!! I haven't used this Magimix Nespresso machine ( almost identical to yours) for about 2 or 3 years. Its been in the attic. Our other machine has really had it as its about 35 years old... one of the original Cube machines. It took about 15 cycles with hot water in the water tank as you said. VOILA....It worked. Thanks again. So many useless TH-cam videos that didnt work. D from London UK.

Holly, over on the Nespresso reddit sub, we send folks to this clip often. Thanks for the effort and a working solution. If I may, the action of raising and lower the tank engages and disengages the valve. When you place the tank back on the valve, a tiny bit of pressure is applied to the drop or two of water that are below the valve seat, forcing that small volume of water along toward the vacuum side of the pump and, hopefully, eventually clearing the vapor lock. This repeated action could, in impatient hands, result in damage to the valve. I have had success simply using a turkey baster to squirt water under considerable pressure down the tube. Have a towel handy.

I love your video, strongly dislike the comment saying you took too long to get to the point. You did not! You were succinct and showed the machine, explained your situation, which clarified matters to me, as my Citz was in the basement for 4 yrs. & same story, pump not pumping either. I was SO happy to see your posting & you did all the hard work with calling Customer Service etc. It was a generous act to post a help vid which you stated you do not often do, but I want to thank you so much for doing it.
My machine is now pumping away happily!!! Women make the best vids btw, NO mansplaining, as we do not have time for that.

Thanks for the video, really good to learn about that technique. I couldn't get it to work for my machine's issue but I found putting the machine on a descaling cycle almost immediately fixed the issue.
