      University courses expect a lot of students. The professors at the university already expect students to possess sufficient prerequisites of the basic knowledge of what is being taught. It is the student's responsibility to have the necessary prerequisites to do very successfully in those high-level courses. I myself have the basic skills to perform at least a basic theory, like mathematical proofs, at the undergrad level. I am continuing to study advanced material like mathematics and physics. My emphasis is on theory. Why something is true and why does it work the way it does? This is the essence of higher education across the board. In closing, students need to take personal responsibility of their education.

    Your course on "Engineering Mechanics Statics" is very interesting and inclusion of mathematical insights are very useful. Requesting you to upload "Strength of materials" course in future videos if possible.

    • @joehudson440
      @joehudson440 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      vignesh Strength of materials consists of two parts: one is Statics and the other that deals with the chemical composition of the material and how those materials withstand the forces when pressure is being applied weather it is externally or internally. In other words, how that material is able react to those forces which causes it to deflect or deform.

    Hello Dr Stewart, in the first slide you've specified Thermodynamics as a branch of Deformable Body. Can you please explain why? Further, you've specified Solid Mechanics as well as a branch of Deformable Body, I thought that Solid Mechanics is a branch of Applied Mechanics (as well as Fluid Mechanics) and Righd & Deformable bodies are both branches of Solid Mechanics. Please help me to make sense with that.qq

    • @CalvinStewartPhD
      @CalvinStewartPhD  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      some clarification. Thermodynamics and Heat transfer should be on the second level of the tree. Solid Mechanics is concerned with the deformation of solids hence it is under Deformable bodies. Applied Mechanics is the "practical Application" of Mechanics. Good luck in your studies.

      SA Thugz I can help you with that. Frist, read the problem. Then draw the diagram. After that, apply the appropriate formulas, like the law of cosines and sines. Furthermore, solve the problem. Finally, answer the question. Last, check your answers and see that it makes sense. These are the procedures of tackling problems in mechanics.

    how is "Engineering Mechanics Statics" (13th Edition) by Hibbeler different from the 14th Edition? because my teacher assigned us the 14th edition.

    • @joehudson440
      @joehudson440 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Essentially, all of the editions down to the 12th edition are the same. The only difference is that the problems are all switched around and some updated. This is important because the correction of errors and to reflect the times. The world around us is constantly changing. So does the text books need to change to keep up with the current technology. This explains why you have succeeding editions. I must agree that the older editions of textbooks are more lucid than the current ones because they explain clearly what is going on. And some has the solutions manual to them. If you want to become a master of a subject, you must first learn to become the student by learning the subject. Take this wisdom and cherish it. Wisdom does not come cheap; it must be earned.

    • @joehudson440
      @joehudson440 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use the 12th edition to compliment the 13th edition. The 12th edition is much better than the 13th edition because it is very lucid and has better examples. In addition, it has all the solutions when you obtain the solutions manual of course. I have purchased a private service to have access to the solutions manual online. For legal reasons, no one should ever have access to this unless approved by a professor. This is primarily for checking the progress of one's work. I encourage academic honesty by not revealing my sources. However, you can purchase one from me by purchasing mine tutoring service. I charge $20 an hour per problem. If you're serious about the inquiry send me your email. Once again, I am honest. I will show you how to do the problem not just obtain an answer. Good luck in your endeavors.

    I have a question. I heard about some six axiom of statics. I did'nt see them on this video. why ?
    I not attack i just asking, doctor.

      The six axioms are discussed over the length of this course. Watch the videos, you will see each of them come to play as we progress through the topic of Statics! ;-)

      yazan jmasi As far as I know, the 12th edition is way more superior than other books on mechanics. The book by R.C. Hibbeler illucidates the facts that is clear to the reader. It explains vector theory very well, like the parallegram law. Hibbeler cleverly conveys the information to the audience in such a way that one can easily visualize what it is being depicted. This is my personal evaluation of the book so far what I have read.
