Avid is finally catching up to Universal Audio and Antelope Audio. It is great to see them having onboard processing. They are yet to figure out how to make this to a full ecosystem. Carbon should have included dual USB-C supporting Thunderbolt daisy chaining. I suppose we could see how they support expansion with their proprietary AVB but that limits them to compatibility with newer hardware and no backwards compatibility with Pro Tools HDX and HD I/O. I wait for the day I see products combining Thunderbolt for local, AVB for remote; interfacing and expansion. USB-C ports should replace mini-digilink. The Hybrid Audio Engine for both Carbon and HDX is a huge step in the right direction.

They do, it's called hdx and it's widely used in commercial Studios. Very expensive but allows you to use a variety of converters and essentially endless I/O. You can get 8 more I/O to carbon at 96k via adat.

Awesome video, love my Carbon Interface!

Really impressive results here. I plan to pick up a Carbon interface later this year. My only concern is it doesn't seem to be expandable with any other i/o or cards. Am I understanding this correctly? If so, might it be expandable in the future or is this designed to be a standalone device?

I’m considering picking up a carbon interface , and was wondering if It would work with pro tools studio or would I need to upgrade to pro tools hd ? Thank you .

What about carbons native round trip latency?

How were records even made before Carbon!!!
Um...anyone considering dropping 4K on this, already knows how to deal with recording latency.
Can you even buy an interface that doesn’t have direct monitoring? Analog mixers anyone?
Just highlight the Carbon workflow advantages, compared to typical latency strategies.

This is my dream device, but its price is high🇸🇩

Carbon has missed the mark for me.. The DSP amount is a little low, but no true thunderbolt 3 or 4 option, so that it could also be used with windows, makes absolutely no sense to me. It should have been dual AVB for mac and a thunderbolt port for windows. And no daisy chaining even with other carbon interfaces (!) is a complete head scratcher to me. I mean with the max 24 analog ins if I use the 2 adat inputs at 48K, means that my current 64 input UAD apollo 8x4 setup still makes way more sense, even for pro tools native. it just means I have to use the apollo mixer for inputs instead of the PT ones, and for that many extra inputs it's a sacrifice I am willing to continue to make. Furthermore, I have plugins that just don't nor will ever exist in AAX DSP form. That said, I was willing to compromise on the latter if carbon could daisy chain and had a windows option, then it would be worth it for me.. Even to daisy chain 2 units for 48 inputs I could *just* scrape by with. Just.
And no, HDX is not an option because the price is stupid. To get HDX compatible interfaces with 64 analog ins like I have now, and say two HDX cards, would be absolutely more than double the cost, and then some, of what I paid for my current setup (including thunderbolt UAD satellites for even more grunt).

Lord!🤦‍ Justa and a small ( descent) mixer to monitor with your budget interface.. Problem solved: No Latency monitoring.

that is the same batch of lies they sold us on with hdx. and I dumped 25k on this hunk of junk, Get rid of the latency.... period. Its a joke they are even explaining to musicians how out of time they will be.

25k that's a lot of money my brother. I understand your frustration.

or you could just add amp modeling after you record in post production. I still can't stand how pro tools is the standard. if this was live I get it but why not record to tape if your gonna emulate anyways. Also a simple patchy could send a monitor signal with no latency whatsoever =0 second latency
