My husband and I visited Mackinac Island for our 25th anniversary in 1997. At that time, non-guests could still walk onto the grounds and in the public lobby areas. We sat in the last two rocking chairs at the west end of the grand veranda and I cried because the view and the serenity was overwhelming. Maybe we will return as guests for our 50th in 2022.
I stayed there in July 2019 on a bucket list trip. As of then, non-guests can still walk the grounds, go to the gift shop, etc but they charge $10 to do so.
It has been my fantasy ever since " Somewhere in Time" came out, to visit Mackinac Island. Sadly everyone that I know, has already been there, cant afford to go or has no desire to go. Im not one to travel alone (at THIS time in my life). But ONE DAY, I will get there !!!!
Awww I wish we knew each other I would invite you to go with us. I want to take my mom for Mother's Day in 2021 as a surprise. I feel like every Michigander has to go at some point in their life. Fingers crossed we both go sooner than later because life is too short ❤️
This video needs more views, it was the most magnificent feature to see on the ferry ride over, the grand architecture on an already unique island is like the ice cream on top of a cake. Im saving up a lot of money to visit the island again, I can’t get over my first time visiting.
I have stayed there twice once in the Theodore Roosevelt suite and in another room. I never stayed in a suite that had stuffed animals and pheasants. I had a goat head over my bed. It was worth the money! Beautiful!
Madison- Lovely job! Did they tell you about Somewhere in Time being filmed at the Grand n 1979? A beautiful, romantic movie with Jayne Seymour and Christopher Reeve. Jane Seymour is there this weekend, I believe for the 40th anniversary of the film. Lovely segment Madison. Blessings - Judith
@@michaelb.8953 Hey thanks ! That sure tells me that there is a slim to no chance I will ever be staying (AT) the Grand. Those prices are OUTLANDISH ! One thing I hate about traveling is, the penalty of being single.
They don't show it for good reason. They're all grandma style. This is only hotel I refused to stay for the wall papers in the rooms. But oh well... that's their style.
@@BrianHSC I think ur right. I came across the site for rooms and a was aghast! I was rather open mouth shocked. I like antique and back in the past style....but then there is THIS.
That’s pretty smart not allowing cars 🚘 on the island, no cruising or drive by shooting, LOL 😝, I Love it!!! Forget the ice cream dessert 🍨 I can imagine what that taste like; I want to know about the STEAK 🥩 OMELETTES, THE SALMON, being surrounded by Water the Seafood 🦞 must be terrific. In other words; HOW’S THE FOOD? Although I love French Vanilla Ice Cream, NEW YORK VANILLA IS THE BEST, but I’m more interested in the food Entree’s. What’s the $Cost$ for this trip for a week? He said they’re only open for the Summer. That might be a Dealbreaker for me ; I hate being around too many People. 😡
That probably the grad hotel that does I’ve stayed in it before it was very expensive the other ones arnt as expensive and the other ones not on the island a d in the city are the way to go 😁
@@pdilligan we just came home yesterday from staying 4 nights at the Grand. $440 a night for my husband and I with breakfast and dinner included! The trick is to stay in May or Oct which is their pre season and post season. Also if you go and stay with a tour group or conference (Celebrate Your Marriage) like we did the rates are the lowest and you can increase your stay before and after conference for the same rate. It's an amazing deal and we had the time of our lives! This was our 2nd year attending and plan to go every year. Also we had a view room looking over the Lk Huron/Straights of Mackinaw & Mighty Mac Bridge.
Ann Gouine ...affordable if you stay in one of the other hotels/ b&bs on the island.....the Grand Hotel is very expensive but a once in a lifetime experience.....
Stay during the off peak season which is May and October. Also if you stay with a conference you can get special rates for the rooms. I'm talking like 50% cheaper for your room and dining included. It's an amazing deal and worth every penny!
It’s been sold and the quality of stay has dropped significantly. From trees being removed by the pool for a new water slide, to removing breakfast and dinner being included with your stay. Please visit and stay at any one of the charming bed and breakfast’s on the island or the other small hotels who will bend over backwards for you and not treat you like a number
I worked there for a few years ago when Dan Musser Jr. was in charge. What a asshole that guy was. Also, it was somewhat common to see rats in the kitchen at night when nobody was working. Always thought that was amusing.

If you don't like it you do have the free will to leave and let us adults handle this.

Love his shirt and tie! Mackinac island was a very neat vacation for me too several years ago
Nice job Madison...went to the island several times as a kid. Haven't been in years.
Me too - we stayed at the grand hotel every summer-- its been years since i returned 😢
What a special place! I lived in Michigan most of my life and have special memories from the Island!
Wow. No cars. And what an awesome place. I have to visit someday. I just love your show. :)

visited there about 30 years ago, was a great place!
Very nice video and good choice of guest interviews, Informative and entertaining.
I would like to see the inside of the rooms.
Me too !
And the average price for an average room and then the higher priced rooms, are at what cost?

The decorations are over the top, but that's part of the fun of it.
Thanks for sharing!
I would love to visit here and stay a week...... or two. 😊
Wish I was a regular guest here
I live in Michigan woohoo GO MICHIGAN 😎!!!
And if you're there during labor day weekend you simply must take part in the Might Mac Bridge walk ... you won't forget it...
I was there a couple days ago and the server put napkins in our laps and poured our tea and called us princess it was amazing
Hey Madison awesome documentary. I want tour this highland this summer. how do I get here from Minnesota. please....
Go across the Upper Peninsula all the way to the east side. Then a bit south! Once you are by the Mackinac Bridge it is hard to miss!

This place charges rooms around $1,600.00 a night!
That's a bit steep, if true!
You can get a good room for about $300 a night if you plan ahead. And the dinners... they are amazing

Sadly, I believe the Grand Hotel was sold last year to a large conglomerate. It is no longer family owned. 😟
Well that Figures, the GREEDY CORPORATIONS really hate the Competition.
It sounds wonderful, However make it so ordinary people can afford to come visit. I looked up the prices of a room I was in shock !!

♥️♥️♥️♥️😊😊😊😊
cute😍
My dads cousin works there
Beautiful place to go, but the room colors are so bold, thought it would be more victorian, muted with touches of colors
MACKINAC island NOT Mackinaw!! Why does EVERYBODY get this confused??
I kept hearing " Mackinaw" and thought I had said it wrong all these years!
It can be spelled either way, but the only correct pronunciation is Mackinaw.
Probably because of Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island. I didn't know either at 1st and had to remember the difference
My son fired that canon when he was 8 years old.

I pray the Trump name never goes even close to Mackinac

Michael B. Are you kidding? He’d bankrupt the place within five years, just like everything else he touched.
