I FINALLY bit the bullet and started wrapping my yardage on these comic book boards and whoa!!!! I love it and can see what I actually have!! Thank you for showing me how to do it♡
I've watched a few of these fabric folding videos and you're the first person that's done it the way I do. I don't know where I got the idea, but I fold the factory fold to the selvedge, then roll the fabric up from one end to the other just like the factory would do it on a bolt--only you and I make "mini-bolts". And I've been doing miniature quilts, so I unroll (unfold) the end of the fabric and take off about 3 inches, then roll (fold) it back up. Three inches by width of fabric is enough for the little pieces I'm cutting, and I don't have to unfold the whole bolt to get what I need. It just makes me feel so professional and fancy!
@@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory Omgoodness!! I was so unorganized. Lol Like everyone else I kept buying- still do BUT it’s more to coordinate with what I already have. 😂
I just did this with some of my fabric and I love it! It’s made a big difference for me and I can see what I have. It’s so simple but it makes a huge improvement in the room.
I love having my fabric wrapped. Like you said my old way of storing my fabric I would shop because I just didn't know what I had. I still shop for fabric but now I pull my fabric I want to use and add fabric from the store. Love your room and videos.
I think I accumulated SO much fabric because I DIDN'T realize what or where my fabric was! When I started organizing I realize just what I have and truly have 'saved' money because I'm not in the shops (all that often!!)
I started using the comic book boards last year. I then place them in clear plastic bins so I can see what I have. It has made a huge difference in the organization of my Fabrics!
Ohmigosh, just saw this. I've seen the comic board videos and always shrugged it off cause I don't have that kind of shelf space, most of my collection is in plastic totes. Then you mentioned how difficult it is to pull out the fabric from a vertical stack and it occurred to me that I could still use the boards to organize the fabric inside the totes. It doesn't have to go on a shelf! Lol a real "Duh" moment. Ordered the boards immediately. Thanks!
Thanks for all the info. Just purchased the boards and will start doing my fabric. You answered my question on folding large amount of fabric, was not sure it would work and now i'm ready to get started.
Thank you so much for this video! I don't have anywhere close to the amount of fabric that you have, but I love this way of storing what I have. It's like having mini-bolts, and everything is easily visible and accessible.
Thank you! I just ordered some. I was not sure how to fold the fabric on to it. Most of my fabric is for clothing and decor. Seeing the nine yards was so helpful!
Sometimes you are long winded and all over the place, but you are seriously funny and informative. You are now at the top of my list of people to watch on TH-cam. I can only imagine the fun you and Jen have when you go places.
I'm not SOMETIMES long winded and all over the place, I am ALWAYS long winded and all over the place! But I do EVENTUALLY get there in the end! Thanks so much for bearing with me!:) LOL!
Hey Jean, I enjoy your “visits”! I’ve ordered my “first” box of comic/magazine boards to fold fabric😀. It’s a start!😮. Thank you for your time and information that you share with us. M🍀
Thank you for this video! I just bought some comic book boards because I have seen that a lot of quilters on a facebook group store their fabric on them, but I didn't know how to use them exactly. I loved your demonstration. It's amazing how much fabric you can store on one of these little things. And you are fun to listen to, so I subscribed :-)
I love the idea of this and just placed an order for a package off of amazon. I thought of using recycled cardboard to store my fabric, as well as Styrofoam board but didn't want to fuss with loose particles on large bolts of fabric. I may still use those recycled materials for fat quarters and scraps and trims.
I think you will find them just wonderful! The ability to actually SEE what you have at hand, all neatly folded and ready to use, is a beautiful thing! LOL! I hope you love them ~ let me know! :)
Hi Jean! I did the comic book boards too. I have switched out my fabric in use right now...(lack of room to have it all out on shelves at once....) and will re-fold onto comic book boards again. You are right about it being easier to take a color out and put it back when using the boards! When they are stacked, and you need a color from the bottom or middle...so hard to get them back in...so I end up putting it where ever and that messes up the color sorting I had done :)
I agree wholeheartedly with you I've been using comic book for a long time. I got a bookcase from IKEA that I display my fabric on, they fit perfectly on "Billy bookcase"😀. I do fasten mind down with hair grips but after seeing yours I probably will stop doing. I have never yet found out how comic people use them 🤔 All I know with fabric storage they are excellent.
Hi Jean, you’re outrageously funny with your words and Not only do I enjoy listening to you, I am learning and taking on board some great ideas. Since finding you I have made space in my little third bedroom for a sewing section, Ikea sewing table, small ironing space, cutting area and a corner bursting with pretty boxes, bags I’ve made ( your idea) full of fabric! Now I need shelves, ordered.... ready for the next new way of storing, love it! Still just about room for the day bed when grandchildren stay, just! Thanks Jean x Kris in Lymington England
Oh dear...I don't mean to be outrageously funny....I just am me...LOL!! You sound like you are on the way to becoming a hard core quilter! YAY!! And grandbabies can always sleep on the floor!! Just kidding....ummmmmmmmm LOL! :)
My husband's business is installing Solar Control Window Film on residential properties. The film (not a cheap window 'tint') stops the UV and UVA rays from any fading, heat loss and helps on energy bills. We have MANY windows in this sewing room and have had zero fading. It's called Vista Solar Control Window Film ~ the product sells itself! :)
Hi Jean. These boards keep the fabric so neat and tidy. I must tidy mine up with some of these. I keep all mine in picnic baskets!! Lol, a bit strange, I know xxx
Hi Jean! I use the 8.5 x 11 which they call magazine boards. I love how they look on my shelves. And I think they don't take up a lot of space at all. Much better than having your fabric folded and all piled up. You can see what you have and just grab it. I love it. Really is like having your own fabric store in your very own room! Lol
I found these a little while back and as you say,,, WHAT A GODSEND!! Want to share with you that the "Billy Bookcase" from IKEA in 8" depth is wonderful for fabric storage/display and takes up very little room,,, they come in many heights and are very well made, durable and affordable:)
You mentioned in the video that you only use the boards for fabric of 1 yard or more, how do you store less than a yard? I bought some boards but was wondering your thoughts on using cardboard? I've always stacked my fabric but it doesn't work for me...too heavy to move. I'm going to try this way of storing fabric, can't wait. Thanks for sharing.
I will use my boards on a yard of fabric, any less I just fold into a square the size of a fat quarter. I like the comic book boards because of how thin they are....ordinary cardboard may be just a tad too thick. But if not, use it! The comic book boards are acid free however, and cardboard is not. Thanks for watching me:)
Oh by the way Jean! I have lots of fabric too and want to be more organize however I have a tough time giving it away. Also, what do you do with flannel or fleece?
I don't work with flannel or fleece all that much. Mostly 100% quilting cotton. If I DO make something with fleece, I just tend to fold it once and store it horizontally on a shelf, since it takes up space.
I cannot tell you how much I LOVE my boards! They are absolutely awesome and I wonder how I did without them! :) You will love them! I am curious though, to see if cutting your own would be cheaper than buying them cut?!?? Let me know:)
I’m not sure with the quantity you need it would be cheaper or worth it!! 😮 I’m not a quilter and just have a need for about 40 so that’s why I went this route. It was $2.49 for an 8pk of 14x22 from Walmart. I’m planning to cut these in 3-4 equal parts based on what fits best in my shelves.
Since you turned me onto Connecting Threads, I found these boards on there (the same 100) for $7.49 so I ordered some. PERFECT timing for this vid, THANK YOU! Coz I was wondering what the best way to fold onto them was. TFS! and as always, looking forward to your next vid! (HUUGS) much Aloha, and have the BEST day, yet! ^ _ ^
Yes and no Julie! Yes the batiks and kona are fine wrapped on the boards and no, I have never had fading or damage. I HAVE however, had solar control window film installed in all the sewing rooms I've had. It shields from sun damage and uv harmful rays that can fade wood and marble, let alone FABRIC! I swear by it and that it is my best (almost invisible) helper in my sewing room!
I sew in my bedroom mostly. I'm removing my collection of shoes (lol soooo many shoes) and using my huge closet for fabric storage. I so have to get a handle on my fabric I'm buying duplicates because I forgot what I had. I need to see the fabric. Ty i was wondering how much fabric I can put on one board.
Very nice info! People tell me that mine looks so neat... Well, yes I want to see it! Lol. I love, love, love to buy 108 in backing on sale..... I make alot of smaller projects and it's cheaper this way for me. Working on my forth block . I've really pushed myself to use colors I don't normally use. I don't like white as a by fabric.... I went with the dark blue in my blue / white fabric... Will post on your site when I get last one done.....
How do you organize your patterns and such? Do you put your patterns all together or organize separate like paper piecing templates, applique? I just gotten my bran new craft/sewing room and Im trying to organize everything where its easily accessible.
I do have a semblance of order for my patterns. Rubbermaid containers (that stack) with store bought patterns (in the plastic bags), cut outs from magazines that I like, applique pieces with instructions, etc., all labeled and organized (to a certain extent).

Then a quick internet search gave me the details.
