Koopmans 37 'Blikvis' tries out new Finsulate antifouling wrap

The owner of the Koopmans 37 aluminium yacht 'Blikvis' was tired of using toxic antifouling on his yacht. Now he is trying out a material called Finsulate, which is not a paint, but a wrapping foil, and is not toxic to the environment. The producer and the owner talk about using the material and its properties in this video.

thanks KM. what preperation on bare aluminium hull do you need to do?

Hi Simon, on a new bare aluminium hull, the yard can apply Finsulate directly, but normally the yards apply a regular epoxy system that they are used to, just to be sure to prevent any general galvanic effects and corrosion. We follow the advise of the shipyards on this subject because we want to make sure the integrity of the hull is safeguarded.
