I went the Andy Kirby route for my first build and used power tool batteries, Milwaukee specifically. Their high output batteries can do a little over 1500w each and charge up to 20.1v. 3x M18 6AH batteries in series gets me a 60.3v pack. If you have the space for 2 strings of 3 batteries it can do 3kw continuous without any issue. And charging is way faster than a standard 52v 13AH, even with the quicker 3A charger. Considering my 36/48v controller only as 61v capacitors I’m maxed out in that kit. It also saves a bunch of $ since i can just used two M18’s for my wife’s ebike. The real downside is the extra space taken up by the casing of the packs, but they sure are rugged so youre less likely to have a fire after a crash.

This is very accurate, im a RC enthusiast and I use all the way up to 6S lipo. You can dump extremely high current without significant damage or heat provided you don't over discharge them just like lithium iron. They do explode though if they are impacted heavily. Never charge unattended...... ever!

If you want i can show you what i have done to wire my batteries in to my latest BMS You will need a "6s JST-XH Parallel Balance Lead Harness" cut three off with as much lead as you can then solder these to the balance leads (in sequence) of your BMS. I can do you a little vid . Been making my own mid drives since 2012.

Good choice of charger brother 👊👊💪💪 your friends giving you good advice. 👊👊💪💪 if ever see a cell not balancing right? Through away. 3 makita 18v 6 ah batterys, 250w hub, 30+ mph, i made a rectangle box you just slot into and fittted to bottle rack bolts.
put a low voltage circuit in else you,ll kill em, pcb on ebays for like 5 quid, i set it to 45v and it cuts out.
plus easy to charge on makita charger.
these are the best batterys ive used so far, they sag the least and really give you power till the end.

always make sure only one wire is exposed and is impossible to get a shock basically, use wago clips to always isolate a wire ,also when it does not need a connection. I think I have to make a video myself to show how to work safe. I see a lot of naive electro "tips", these vids are the real danger. Eg 5:41 he does not connect but that is what I mean, first top these wires with wago's and you can safely connect it, and then one by one connect them to the other battery.
