Thank you for sharing this! I, too, have gotten impatient and overpaid for plants that I would've gotten for 1/6 the price had I done a little more searching and a lot more careful thinking. For example, I got a discount code from Planterina for "65% off". I quickly put a large-sized Alocasia Stingray that I had been pining for in my cart, and was thrilled to see the priced reduced by that much. Since I was going to pay almost $14 in shipping and $10 in "Winter Protection Packaging", I decided that I might as well order another couple of plants. I put a Epipremnum (Pothos) 'Pearls and Jade' in my cart and hit "submit". Yes, I had noticed its "inflated" price of $55 for a pothos, but thought, "65% off $55 is a good price for a hanging basket of these, already full and trailing". However, I didn't pay close attention to the restrictions on the discount code I was using. It was only for their RARE plants, which the Alocasia qualified for, but not the Pothos! Completely MY mistake, but the 2 plants, the "Winter Protection Packaging" (which was NOT optional for this site) and the shipping, altogether came to a little over $100. I had clicked on the "purchase" button already and had received a confirmation number. I tried to cancel the order, but the request "didn't go through in time" despite it being within 5 minutes of my placing the order. There's no returning plants because one made an ordering mistake, so, BUYER BEWARE! In the end, my plants arrived in beautiful condition, but the experience certainly left me with a bad taste in my mouth for online shopping. Here are the things I would advise!
1--If you live where winters are cold, wait until spring to place your orders. Winter shipping is expensive for the buyer, and stressful on the plants
2--Check every line of your order before you click the purchase button!
3--Be extra careful if you're using PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay, or any of those services that make shopping very quick. Sometimes they make ordering SO easy that we don't stop to think "Wait, what? How much? I don't think that's right."
4--Wait a few months, or even a couple of years, before buying a super trendy plant. (Remember the prices of Philodendron Pink Princess? I saw some for $12 at Lowe's. Unless you are buying to propagate and resell...perhaps you don't need to spend $300 on that plant?)
5--Keep an eye open while you go to the grocery store, pharmacy, even yard sales! Sometimes there are planty treasures to be found there!
6--Cruise the "clearance" racks of the garden department at the hardware store. I have purchased salvageable plants for $2 and $3, and also picked up beyond-repair ones for pennies just because the ceramic pot or glass terrarium in which they were planted would have been $20 by itself.
Thank you for this video! It's so good when we all can learn from each other's experiences!

EXCELLENT VIDEO! I REFUSE to spend more than $15 for most any plant and I have over 100! I paid $3 for my S. Exotica! It is BEAUTIFUL…FLAWLESS, easy and fast growing for me! I’ve propagated the mother plant heavily and she just keeps bursting with new growth! From one small plant I’ve been able to propagate (2) 6” inch hanging baskets, 2 on a moss pole, and (2) 4” inch table top planters. I’m about ready to propagate from my moss pole, again!
TIP: I use clear pots so that I can monitor soil moisture AND root growth! Takes the guesswork out! Keep it simple with this one, that’s how they like it!

I bought two of these plants from Planterina and both were in fantastic condition, well rooted and larger than yours. Both of mine are growing like crazy, I've had to propagate it twice in a year. I've purchased around a dozen plants from Planterina and they've always been larger than I expected. Also always in excellent condition and pest free. Had I received it as you described, I would have taken pictures and immediately reached out to Planterina. When I purchase from Planterina, I only purchase when a plant is on sale since their prices are high.

I didn't even know that you could request a refund. I just thought that's how the plants were. I'm glad you had good experiences with Planterina! All of the plants I have purchased from them are in good shape and doing well just smaller than expected and expensive compared to other retailers. Thank you so much for sharing your experience!

@@spacecaseandherplants you just need to contact the seller right away and have pictures. The only time I had an issue was with an Esty seller, charged $65 for a variegated string of hearts for a 4 inch potted plant that was pictured, it came with 3 single leaves & one vine with 5 leaves. That seller was terrible to deal with, refused a refund or even a partial refund...didn't even offer a replacement plant. Now I never pay more than $40 for a plant online...I will wait until I find it in person before I pay more than that.

This plant is not common where I am frm aswell so I knw the feeling. My local grocery store believe it or not seems to be where I get the luckiest. But ur right, u have to go a few times a week to find those exciting good finds. I just found the exotica last week for 5.99 !!!! Its only small maybe 4 leaves but when I tell u my heart was pounding with excitement, I couldn't believe it. Lol Especially for the price around here just seemed unheard of. So excited with my plant and CnT waittttttt for it to grow and get big.
Edit : thnx for the tip on the leaf touch. I'm still a bit new (5 mnths ) into plants so still learning

@@spacecaseandherplants I do have another question tho. I decided to repot my exotica and thank goodness I did because it had that net of death trap around the roots. But my question is I watered before I decided to repot. Should I rewater again .... Or should the roots have already soaked up enough water ? I deff am not trying to over water as past mistakes lol

Oh my gosh! The Lowes by my house drowns the plants. I always try to check the roots if I decide to buy a plant at lowes. I actually learned this lesson after buying a plant, bringing it home and hanging it in seclusion. The next morning I had maggots on the floor around the plant. Lowes did give me a total refund. Yucky! I have found some nice plants there but if they’re watering, I skip the plants. Lol.

I have to drive across town to go to Albertsons. 😆 Which one do you haunt? I find cool plants occasionally at the Smiths at San Pedro and Lomas. You can find me in Walmarts around town dumping water out of all the over-watered plants I can't rescue.🙄😏

I got mine from a farmers market for 7 dollars. It is strikingly beautiful. Recently I found a Hoya cutisii at a local nursery with a few rooted cuttings for 8 dollars. If I had just waited a few more days, literally 5, I would have found the nice full trailing one I purchased in Lowes for 17. Sometimes you have to wait. Btw that particular Hoya is not common in my big box stores.
The exotica you got for 12 dollars is amazing?

It is a silvery ann. You can tell because one of the leaves is completely silver and the rest of the leaves have different patterns and varying degrees of silver. The only thing consistent is the dark vien down the middle of the leaves. The exotica doesn't do patchy silver like that. Silvery Ann is on my wishlist and that's a beautiful plant! I can't believe you got it for that price! Only because it was mislabeled, lol. Congratulations 🎊😁🎉Not as expensive as silver hero but they are expensive and hard to find. A lot of people seem to be having issues buying plants online. A little advice. Always take pictures right out of the box. That way you can ask for a refund or a replacement plant if you need to. Ask for pictures of the actual plant you will receive before you buy it. A larger plant shop like Planterina won't be able to, but any smaller seller like on etsy or facebook marketplace will. That way you know what your getting and you can see how it has survived shipping. Check reviews. People will tell you what to expect. I personally don't get plants from anyone who doesn't have multiple and good reviews. I know that's not exactly fair to new sellers but I've been burned by new people with no experience at all. Try to keep your communications on the platform so your conversation can be tracked if there's a problem. Same with your payment method. Try not to use an untraceable payment method, like a prepaid card. That way you can cancel payment, use their fraud protection service or get refunds. I had to do that once and thankfully paypal refunded my money, even though they never got it back from the phony seller. That's when I stopped using new people. These are some of the things I do to protect myself when buying plants online. Any seller worth their salt will not have a problem with any of those things. I have found they want to and will do the right thing with a little communication 😊 Happy and safe plant shopping!

I have been burned by sellers online before! Not with plants but with other products that ended up being counterfeit. It's always good to check your sources as well and to use PayPal. Which I never used before until recently. Thank you so much for sharing all these tips!!
