I splurged on the Ohtani 40/40 cards and struck out. Bought 20 cards. 2 of them had scratches from the printer or cutter. Splurged on the 50/50 cards too. Will get them in a couple weeks I guess. Topps probably going to put out Ohtani 55/60 cards or 55/55 cards or whatever too in the next couple days just to devalue the others and make more money. I plan on selling them together in order to get some of my money back.
I bought 1 of each of those cards when they were available at a fraction of the price, and got the same amount of parallels as you (none). Rule of thumb you don't need to be a psychic to tell when there's gonna be a big PR on certain cards, always buy low on those (1 card) and high on ones you think the PR will be on the lower side to better your odds at a parallel. I think if more people treated Topps Now this way, the High PR one's wouldn't be so INSANE in the amounts being printed, and would make the base cards value higher and in turn the parallels as well.
Card like that are extremely hard to get parallels given how many were printed. I got 4 parallels out of 6 5-card lots I bought. One was an orange /5 Wyatt Langford. Print run was like, 1500 I think. Gotta pick and choose. Big cards like Skenes, I’ll get one and don’t care about parallels. A Jonatan Clase call up card (M’s fan), bought 5 and got a blue /49.
There are over 43,000 of those Jackson Hollidays. There are almost 25,000 of the Skenes. I wouldn’t count on those cards to be worth too much in the future. I hope I’m wrong.
I got a Christian Scott debut ToppsNOW card /5, the parallels/SP are usually right on top. I love the Living Set and Throwback Thursday cards. Got lucky with a few SP. Sold an Acuna SP, Joe Mauer, and Adley Rutchsman. Sold all 4 for like 60 dollars more than what I paid for.

I think the best topps now product to come out recently were those 2024 road to opening day topps now packs. The checklist is very minimal and is loaded with star players and rookies
I love Topps Now cards. I bought lots of them. The number of parallels remains the same regardless of the print run. So when you buy the cards that everyone else did your chances of a parallel is really small. Ive gotten lots of parallels over the years including multiples for the same base card. I bought five beekeeper cards and got one of the subject short prints. Super lucky. Btw the parallels are always packed in separate containers from the base. They used to mark them on your packing slip but now they seem to be inserted randomly by hand.

Erik I dont see Topps Now as an investment. I bought 20 in 2018 of Ohtani/Ruth and all were graded PSA 10. Now they are selling for about $100. Less than what the grading cost. Wish I’d know you were planning on these purchases I woulda shared that with you.
Yeah I bought 20 Jackson Holliday Topps Now cards hoping to get one numbered, but the print run was about 48k so that puts it to 1 numbered card to every 500 cards. Kinda tough but it’s crazy that you didn’t get 1 out of 120
I pulled a Blue #/49 James Outman from a 5 pack of James Outman Debut Topps Now last year and flipped it for $100. Now he is in the minor leagues and terrible. Topps Now is worth the gamble one way or the other but from experience Topps Now are very hard to get a PSA 10 in.
Frankly I'm disappointed that Topps didn't think to reward you with something in recognition of your large purchase. I have made a few Topps Now buys on a limited basis on smaller releases and been satisfied. Quality seems good. And those jewelcases should be illegal. They join my Wander Franco and Julio Urias cards in the trash. I hope we as channel members can buy a few of these from you to cut your losses.

Parallels aren't inserted with the base cards. This video could have been much shorter.

It's because those cards were wayyyy in demand and they printed 10's of 1000's of them. Odds of a parallel are pretty slim on these young rookies.
