  • Welcome to the site of our future home(stead)! In June, we bought a 6.2-acre parcel of vacant wooded land that we will be starting the marathon of all projects - developing raw land and building our own home. In this video, check out some aerial footage of the property and listen to the fairly unconventional way we found and purchased it.
    We will take this piece of land from a bunch of trees in the rolling hills of southern Pennsylvania to the place that we will call home for the foreseeable future. Hit the subscribe button to follow our build journey - it will be different than most others for three reasons:
    1) We are designing the house from scratch ourselves.
    2) We are going to work as our own General Contractor, hiring subcontractors as we need to.
    3) We will finance the project without taking on any debt.
    In the end, our goal is to move into our dream home with no mortgage to show for it.
    We will document every step of the way in the 'Self Building Our Home' playlist, so make sure to subscribe here and follow us on social media to stay updated!
    About Us: We are Alex and Elaina, a couple in our mid 20s who are currently living on the 3-acre farm in southern Pennsylvania where Alex grew up. We have a garden, backyard chickens, and build or fix anything that we need to. We still work corporate day jobs, but are working to eventually leave the 9-5 lifestyle in favor of a self-built, debt-free, homestead on 6 acres nearby.
    Something that differentiates us from other TH-cam homestead channels is our transparency on the cost of our projects - there is usually a breakdown right in the description!

    Did the EXACT same thing! Sent 5 letters... Received a response from 4/5. The 1 response we received was for a plot we didn't even look at, but it has worked out. Now, we are close to purchasing 6 acres of wooded land about 4 miles NE of where we currently live. God works in mysterious ways! We look forward to clearing the land and making it our homestead!

    Just found your channel! Can’t wait to watch your journey. How smart to make letters and send out. How did you find out the landowners? We will be embarking on this same journey in a couple of years.

    That's awesome! I tried talking to vacant land owners through mail/Facebook. Didnt work so well. Contacted about 30, and nothing came of it. Wish I known about that program you used! Lol Following along as we're about to close on our land in about 3 weeks!

    • @MasonDixonAcres
      @MasonDixonAcres  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s awesome! It’s really a numbers game, sending more letters enabled us to see as many as we did. Congrats on the purchase, it is certainly the start of quite a work marathon. Best of luck, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!

    This is amazing right now we live on 5 acres but we rent we weren’t really looking to buy a big property but one of my parents side of the family are and we’re BIG farmers pretty soon one of the farms will be ours it’s a dairy farm located on 600 acres we’re NEVER gonna live there but hopefully we can buy a nice property but I say you two are very lucky for this property I believe you will be able to get 100 acres than 200 all the way up to 1000 because you guys have a lot of potential I see keep it up!

    • @MasonDixonAcres
      @MasonDixonAcres  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow a 600 acre farm would be a handful. I'm not sure if we could manage more than 6! Haha thank you for watching, more to come!

      @@MasonDixonAcreshahahaha yeah it’s a lot I’m not sure how my parents are going to handle it while we’re back at home over 200 miles away because there are over 3000 cows but there are a lot more animals..

    Ok - that was a creative way to find property.. Where did you learn to do this? Self baked idea, or learned it from somewhere? Oh, and loved the outtakes. funny.

    • @MasonDixonAcres
      @MasonDixonAcres  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not totally self-baked, a similar tactic is used in some niches of real estate investing, we just applied the basics to our situation. Haha thanks! thought we should include the fact that we’re still not good on camera 😂

    How were you able to use agent pro for searching for the specific absentee or abandoned land? I’m planning on moving to North Carolina from New Jersey and will like to buy land. Please help thanks.

    • @MasonDixonAcres
      @MasonDixonAcres  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They have easy filters to use, basically like Google maps but there’s a check box for “absentee owner”. There’s a guy named Seth Williams who has a whole website and program dedicated to buying & selling vacant land, called REtipster.com. do some googling on that and I’m sure he has a good agentpro walkthru article that explains it

    The problem with that area is it’s in the eastern part of the country that land was priced right at 35k but you could have got 4 acres for 10 k like prepper life did his channel is on youtube from NC I paid way less then that for around 10 acres In Montana with a couple old but still useable for storage outbuilding buildings if I were you guys I would have went to a better State out west or find another country to live in internationally because if there is ever gonna be a ww3 nuclear war your gonna have a front row seat sitting in PA and people that live in Montana and Wyoming will be viewing events that could happen from a little safer away you can find out the nuclear targets on line they are located mostly all along the east coast.
