    yes I know its not a real pandeiro, which is why I said it was an "americanized version" and what I said at 12:20. Anyways, I am in no way trying to insult the people and cultures that use pandeiros!

      if you put a single-ply head on, and tune it kind of high tension, it'll sound more like what you were thinking when you started building it. i like the low pitch and kind of "tom" tone of it as it is now, but if you were wanting to get a sharper pang almost like an accessory snare tone out of it, that's how.

      rdavidr you should make a snare drum with jingles

      Amazing drum groove, David. And your set sounds super funky and perfect for sampling. I love how the jingles of the pandeiro mix with that particular ride cymbal. And the o-jing/floor tom is awesome for accents with that groove too. SERIOUSLY.

    Damn this sounds amazing, you hear the jingles over everything, and that thud is just thunderous

  • @No_Transitory
    @No_Transitory 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Edit: I’ve had tension rods do that after powder coating the rims. I had warped the rim a bit. But I do see replacing the lugs worked perfectly.
    I only wish I had the wood work tools you have! I miss working with my old buddy who made cabinets as we had some great ideas to make a kit but only got the bass drum done due to materials as he used oak. So I’m left with a 22x18 oak bass drum. It sounds great but I certainly wish I had at least the toms to finish it. Oak sounds so amazing

    Pandeiro jingles are usually chunkier than tambourine jingles. They're like two spoon halves with a metal bit in between.
    It's cool that you found a decent use for the rest of that shell.

  • @ChimichangaGuy
    @ChimichangaGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thing is pretty sweet Dave. I'd rig it up to be played with a pedal that way your hands are free to do whatever and you can use you left foot (or right for you lefties) to use it as a cool accent drum.

    First off i love your channel, I haven't seen every video but if you haven't done them already it would be cool to see You make a metal snare with the jingles in the shell,
    Or a snare out of a deep kitchen pot,
    Or a homemade practice pad,
    Or a way to attach jingles in/outside a bassdrum so they jingle with the kicks,
    Or a homemade "jingle wedge" rim attachment,
    Or some sweet new hardware/stand hacks/tips,
    Or some hihats with rivets,
    Or a DIY stand alone/attachable aux table. Thank you man, keep posting videos love the content that you provide!

  • @tronque
    @tronque 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I Love that first groove! It's imperative that the Pandeiro hangs kinda loose as if you'd hold it with a hand to get the jingles responding well. Toca had a jingle snare some years ago suspended with rubber bushings or smth. So it needs to be moving a bit.

    David - I have a project idea and you could even use some jingles with it. I sent you a Facebook message.

  • @BenBlademanSimpson

  • @randomgong
    @randomgong 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought a Stanton Moore Pandeiro and wasn't crazy about it. It was super quiet and felt fragile. Not what I was expecting especially since some LP demos show it being used as a micro kick drum. It does not sound good for that use. But this thing sounds better and looks like it can take a beating. Make a jingle stick with your extra jingles.

      se esticar bastante a pele o som vai ficar bem mais parecido e as soalhas soariam mais altas se tocasse com as mãos, pq vc chacoalharia mais ao invés de só bater. apesar de ser impossível de tocar com a mão pq é muito pesado e alto, eu diria que é um pandeiro, sim

      Wolfgang Ponce concordo com vc mano. Ficou um belíssimo trabalho, mas ficou semelhante, mas diria que não é um pandeiro hahaha

    • @rafaelvieiraaj

      eu acredito que o que caracteriza bastante o pandeiro é o tipo de pele usada, talvez isso que tenha descaracterizado muito. talvez se ele usasse uma pele de pandeiro de couro por exemplo o som ficaria mais característico. ficaria bem grave, mas seria mais parecido

    I agree that drums like these are probably for hand playing. Like the Sonor jungle snare. But maybe playing them with those mallet stick hybrids so the mallet side activates the jingles would work better and then playing with the stick tip side would sound like a more traditional snare.

    Despite the fact that this has nothing to do with this video. I have to say that you inspired me to refurbish and stain one of my bass drums. It looks fucking beautiful! It bought it for 80 bucks years ago,and despite being made of cheaper wood, I always loved it's attack and minimal resonance. But thanks for inspiring me to take action and work on the drum projects I always procrastinate on. I love DIY projects and I want to do so much more with all my spare drum stuff.

    Always inspiring to watch your videos, thanks. I play a bit of pandeiro and if you ever make a hand held one, I’m definitely interested in checking it out. I did a brief video on Brazilian samba and the Pata FlaFla. Thanks again, nice grooves too!

    You could do an experiment.
    Make a lacquered with varnish spray over the contact paper ... What do you think?

    I think I'd use it, I've been playing some psych type stuff lately and could add some texture with it. You should make sticks that have jingles built im

    Looks like you're in the middle of building a stave snare? Top left on the shelf at 12:43. I just finished my first one, made from walnut with maple accent stripes. It looks like yours is coming along nicely!
