I just can't believe that people comment on dirty finger nails! wtf dirty finger nails are a sign of a working man. this guy goes out of his way to help other drummers and this is the thanks he gets? wtf is wrong with these people. is that all they noticed in this great video? I didn't want to say anything, but someone had to. keep up the great work man.

Yeah Erik99, I am agreeing 100%.... I just happened to bump into this channel today looking for a cheap pocket type kit I could get used, or a kit I could make out of a crappy used kit using it's16" floor tom for a kick and make a 12" or 13" snare out of one of it's rack toms that I could somehow attach to the homemade kick, slap a handle on it, throw a cheap throne, hat stand and a crash stand w 18" crash/ride into a bag so I don't tear my rotator cuff again schlepping my full kit around like I did 2 weeks ago, I have a feeling rdavidr is my guy, and this is definitely my go to from this point forward, subscribing and SMASHING the like button NOW! That lick at the end was "the business" too! I'll be back!

Holy crap that little tool and “hack” to cut the reveal on the bearing edge was brilliant!!! Finished product sounds great!!!
THIS! ALL of THIS!!! That kick drum sounds punchy with that pizza fabric, no muffling needed because the fabric muffles it perfectly to reduce bass drum overtones while letting the Attack and the Punch pound right through the mix. Outstanding!

To be frank, that would probably sound suuuuper trashy, and be a super unique addition. You could also make a cool stack with assorted sizes.
There's no bell so I honestly don't think it would work. It wouldn't really sound trashy, it would sound like shit. Not even like the purposeful dirty, shit sound that trash stack cymbals have, just pure trash, probably not even worth pursuing but who knows maybe it sounds good

Probably my favorite video yet, and definitely my favorite drum you've built. Thank you for being so thorough in explaining your... "techniques" or at least talking through everything you do, even if it doesn't have a real good reason lol. Also, I bet that kick would sing a lot more if you let the beater bounce off of it, but that's just, like, my opinion man.

The carpet actually gates the drum mechanically. Very clever way to not only get rid of sympathetic overtones, but add some real punch to the head sound.

Great video and that drum really came out nice! The contact wrap actually looks quite good and could be made more durable with a coat of polyurethane. The quick response punchiness is a nice sound and the fluffy reso just adds to it. Are you planning on cutting the rest of that kit down and making a compact travel kit, or was this just a "one-off" kind of project. Especially enjoyed your playing and groove in this video. Well done sir.

Another great video David, I've seen it at least 5 times now. I was reading an article a couple days ago about wrapping drums with inexpensive wrap like this and it said that after you get done with the wrap you should hit the drum with about four coats of poly and it will give it the appearance of a high dollar wrap, as well as help keep the wrap from wrinkling when remounting the hardware or putting tension on the heads.
That wrap looks really good
The bass drum came out great. I've been drumming for years, with only one kit, that was changed so many times applying contact paper.

Got it thank you.. @ 10:45 something flipped my lid so to speak.. looked easy enough but.. there must have been a loose wire in my head because it was tricky to get down and then get that feel you nailed.. Drumming is the only thing in my life that never got boring.. and the best part is that I have been a beginner for 56 years.. played with the best yes but it's the yearning to learn anew that keeps the heart beating.. Now don't get me going about the next licks on the vid.. very cool and thanks again.
