Thank you for the “real” honest review! I’m 5’6 140 lbs and was going to get this until this video. If it’s too tall for a six foot guy, it would be impossible for me. Thank you.
My 17 250FX doesn't flame out at all....probably the best suspended off road bike Ive ridden, incredibly stable and soaks up everything(I am 190ish lbs in riding gear).Best starting 4 stroke Ive owned, incredible motor for a 250.....lugs in 3rd for a lot of trail, great 1st gear for the real tight singletrack.Clutch is very nice for a cable and doesn't give me grief.Being 5'9" the bike is very tall.....the gytr low seat helped that.Yes its a bit heavier than a ktm 250 xcf but not terrible.Bike is loud....I try to wear ear plugs.Really the height of bike is the ONLY complaint I could think of.....Maybe I will do the lowering link in rear.I love it in tight singletrack or fast open track.
I have the same bike, and ride the same new england terrain. If you are coming from a 2 stroke there is definitely a learning curve going to a 4 stroke (engine braking etc). This bike is def on the heavy side (compared to a 2t) and is crazy tall. That said I think it is the best suspended bike i've had. The harder you push it the better it handles.
It's a great bike and like I responded to another comment . Perhaps I wasnt enough to really handle the bike and show it who's boss ..I mean I did well on it race wise but definitely feel faster back on a 2t ..I suppose it's all just personal preference
Do you think it destroyed your energy because you were able to shred harder without realising it? just a thought of my experoience ,i went from a kx450f 250lbs! to a 2019 yz250x 225lbs and i am more tired on my yz250x due to riding harder and not realizing it! I love 2 wheels!
@@snowrider4495 I will admit I think that bike is beyond my riding ability to shred it as hard as its capable of . I did however start to really get intune with it my last 2 races after softening the suspension all the way . I'm back on a 2t now and instantly felt back at home . The fx is a great bike but maybe I just dont feel confident on a 4 stroke the way I do on the new bike. Its definitely 2 different riding styles for sure ..that engine brake is a momentum killer 😂
I doubt it is your riding ability! but i think your right you have to have that feeling of being in charge of your bike! 20 % bike 80% rider time on the bike/mentality!
Sorry for late response I don't get notifications I did buy mousses but didn't like how heavy they are so never installed them .I just use a HD tube up front and tubliss in back
@Brenden Lohmann I figured as much a few of my buddies seen it at multiple bike shops the past couple yrs .sucks was a great running bike. Hopefully it's not too much of a can of worms now .
@@gsxrstyle yeah I just ordered new valves for it dropping head off at machine shop this week everything else on bike is in good shape except the engine
The fan does actually fit but it did take quite a bit of finagling. And I do believe I'm putting stress on the brackets that mount to the front rad guards ....I really dont even recomend these rad guards I bent mine to shit even with the extra bracing as a purchase option..go with bullet proof rad guards
I was excited to race it when I bought it ..I thought it was going to be a good woods weapon and I'm sure it is but just not for me ..some ppl love it but bike was just way too heavy for me
Realistically it would be nice to have both ..E start is great for racing stuck in the mud or side of hill.. but nice to have a kicker as back up ..if the battery dies or starter solenoid shits the bed you can still start the bike
So I never actually sealed it the proper way I used very thick plastic bag type material and surrounded all the brackets and electronics with it snug with zip ties . Its held up perfectly fine through all the deep mud races and countless power washes

awsome bike! i have a 2019 yz250x 2 stroke! Anything yamaha makes is awsome!
I was looking into the 250x before I bought the fx it was a very tough decision to make .Yamaha makes great bikes
@@gsxrstyle I had the choice of the ktm 300 and yz250x,I loved both equaly but power feeling in each gear yzx won it was funner to ride FOR ME!
@@snowrider4495 I've never had the chance to ride the 250x but hear it makes a awsome woods bike

Totally agree with everything you said!! I had one, but it was an F and not an FX, and that thing destroyed my energy
Absolutely..great bike but not for netra hare scrambles

Snow Rider I ride harder and faster on My KTM and it doesn’t tire me out at all, after my harescramble race I feel like I can go again!!

awesome review man, have you tried mousses installed?
Sorry for late response I don't get notifications I did buy mousses but didn't like how heavy they are so never installed them .I just use a HD tube up front and tubliss in back
do you think it could make a 2 hour race? the 2020s gas tank is .2 gallons larger
Yes I do filled to the tip top ..my races are roughly an hr and a half and I still have fuel to spare ..but also depends on hard your on the gas
I just bought this bike. Just curious how many hours you had on it when you had it?
This bike has apparently been through a few hands after I owned it . It had 27 hrs when I got it
@@gsxrstyle yeah unfortunately it beat now. Gotta rebuild the motor

How did your radiator guards fit with the cooling fan? I passed on buying those for my FX as I read reviews that said they wouldn't work together.

Hey, just wondering if you made up your own mapping or whether you found some maps somewhere? I can’t find any for my 18”. Cheers,Damon
It's the power mapping that should be an option on the tuner or yamaha website I did not make my own
Doesn't seem like you enjoyed racing your Yammie..... Too bad, I remember how excited you were for it at the beginning of the season.

BAMF_Ben_Allen oh alright thanks, but if you were only able to have 1 which would you prefer
@@idontgetit2124 kick start is more reliable but I do have to say my husky and ktm xc have e start and havnt had any issues with them as of yet

Hi, how did you finally seal your rear fender?
So I never actually sealed it the proper way I used very thick plastic bag type material and surrounded all the brackets and electronics with it snug with zip ties . Its held up perfectly fine through all the deep mud races and countless power washes
