Thank you for this very useful tutorial! 🙌🏻My mom asked me to help her thouch up a photo of a fireplace because the wall around it was a mess and it would take time for the painter to redo the whole wall🎨. Great to see you again!! Ahh...it's peaceful, almost therapeutic watching you clean up images some times...
I never get tired of seeing you clean up images, sure I've seen much of it before, but I always seem to catch a little something new each time. I think the most interesting times are seeing you use the plain paint brush, and then you create some noise to paint back in "texture" to cover your tracks. You didn't do on this one, but that one is a HUGE mindblower and I've used it a lot.
Suggestions: It's been a long time since you did old photo restoration!!
How about take some old damaged film negatives, scan them in and then invert them and then clean them up??? With the resurgence in new film photography there is interest in seeing it down new, but also, restoring old images, I've seen you do absolute MAGIC on some of those before...so, if you started with a negative, that might cover both worlds?

Thanks for the lesson; very useful tips as always! Question: When using the Spot Healing Brush Tool or the Healing Brush Tool, are there any tips as to how much larger the brush size should be as compared to the area that is being covering up?

Nice work. I have the same problem with DIRTY studio floors. Now normally I would've cullied these images and selected two or three similar ones as this. Now after I have cleaned up the BG as you done here I have to repeat that same process on the next images. Very time consuming. In a perfect world Photoshop maybe can remember the work on a similar image and do some of the cleanup for you.

Awesome as usual! I have a beautiful scenic photo with a group of people I've been trying to remove. I've used most all the tools and can't t seem to get the people removed because it involves a lot of different detail including reconstructing perspective areas. Would be a great tutorial. Thanks
Thanks for all your great videos! Any chance you could do one where it simulates painting the exterior of a house specific colors? You’ve done the hue/saturation video before but a way to do like a brands colors ex: Sherwin Williams colors or Benjamin more and keep the texture. For paining brick and window trim 😬 thanks again!
You can find RGB color values in Sherwin Williams's website. Then you can either do a hue/saturation layer and match the RGB value, or do a color layer to paint the RGB value over the original image.

Why u not using frequency seperation for these types of clean up.. it retains the Maximum original texture.

Yes I would to see a tutorial on the more unused/advanced options for the cloning and healing tools like replace, multiply, color etc…. I understand those blending modes as I’m a photographer and retoucher but I’ve yet to encounter a scenario where I’ve thought about using them with those tools and would love to see some examples of when it would help. Big thanks!
Also as a photographer who has to do his own retouching typically I would’ve brought a broom with me on that shoot and swept the sidewalk first to see me all that retouching lol. But I’m sure you probably shot that as an example for this tutorial ha ha

Is Photoshop running in fullscreen mode here, on Mac? How is this possible? For me, the only way is to move Photoshop onto its own desktop, however this is not really "fullscreen" mode. Any ideas?
Is it possible to do one with cars when light painting was used and Photoshop used to blend in multiple shots from at least 4 images

This is very helpful - thanks. I have a quick question about shortcut keys. It's useful to switch quickly between J and S but several tools are grouped together in the toolbox with the same shortcut key, eg Spot Healing Brush, Healing Brush, Patch etc. Is there a way to assign different shortcuts to tools that share the same key?
I tested it with my older version of PS and I can give each one a different shortcut. Let us know if it works for you.
@@AffinityPC I checked again and you're right! I hadn't selected 'Tools' from the dropdown list that initially shows Shortcuts For: Application Menus. Doh! I now have P for Patch. 🙂

Hello:) For the tools that share the same letter and that are grouped together, rather than assigning different letters to them, simply press and hold the shift key and repeatedly press the appropriate letter key and it will toggle between the tools in that section of the toolbar. This actually works for any tool grouped (and 'hidden') together. Hope this helped! :)

Hello, I'm an avid fan of yours, and I love your content, which helps a lot in having effective results in a very efficient way.
I'd like to know if there's a way to solve my problem. I edit student photos, and since it's a pandemic, getting them close for a class picture isn't allowed. That's why I used their individual images to compose a Virtual like class picture. The problem is that every image has a different focal length, so some photos look bigger than others. So I adjust them one by one in Photoshop, and it looks great, but it consumes a lot of time since I'm editing many photos. I wonder if there's a way to crop all images based on focal length so that images are of a consistent size and proportion with their classmates. The first method would be to have a tripod in the photoshoot session and leave the focal length as it is from the beginning up to the very end, but what if we use a shotgun photoshoot style? Is there a way we can use it to fix it in post-production?

What does the error mean? “Layers do not overlap enough to detect alignment “ … my photos are pretty close but maybe theres too much composition variation?
What level of edge hardness do you prefer for the various tools, and what happens when you make a bad choice for that?
ctrl+z or use the erazor tool in that specific area and retry, if your on a new blank layer using the current and below feature it will be easy to rectify mistakes as they also just update the pixels in that are from using the tool. 7 is soft and can ruin textures with lots of detail like cloth and upholstery etc, but 1 is too hard and will reveal spot healing brush use. Play around till you find what suits the usage and image and pixel size etc. But 4 or 5 is a gd place to start. tbh i find the normal healing brush to be far superior to the spot but you have to choose where your copying from ( also if you have an area of clean edge it works as well as the clone stamp tool.
PS 2024 doesn't seem to be working like this .I didn't get any results . Any suggestions ?
Hi there! Many of the techniques used in this tutorial should still work for the latest PS version. Although you might want to experiment with the new tools like Generative Fill or the new Remove tool to remove unwanted objects.
