It’s nice of Leth to assume that Rikio was making an attempt at actual comms during their game, but anyone that’s played in the gold ranks knows that being patient with the ball is an entirely foreign concept to them. He was just thinking “the ball is there, why is he not slamming it?!”

Yep, just gonna confirm that this goes waaaaaay past gold. Lol. Most people just ball-chase and hope their mechanics will make up for the bad touches they make constantly by throwing themselves at the ball every chance they get. Generally the more somebody quick-chats, the less they're actually contributing to the game.

The worst part is that this mentality won't go away for some players until they reach high champ. You'll see the same "Take the shot!" spam in c1-c2 solo q regularly
@@GerdTerd last season for me 1050-1060s were often spamming stuff cause they probably in and out of champ. This season i haven't played much. I'll be the first one to say i fucked up but if you spam me it's a 3v1 almost instantly, i don't care about +10 in a video game when smeagol is on my team haha

@@KakashiFlash2 I don't mind him losing. It's more that if he is losing it isn't really showing us how to win. What changes could I make to my game to prevent these losses. On the flip side, it is also reassuring to know that even if you play your position right 100% you will still lose if you don't improve your fundamental mechanics like saves etc. Definitely a side to both.

I understand how you feel. On one hand you're meant to progress through the ranks and win, but on the other hand it was a 2v1 and you were supposed to be the same rank as them. Decisions be tough
Well yes, but just stalling out the game by playing only defense (and playing that to a way higher level) is probably the worst decision to make here.

Disconnects and leavers happen so often at this level that he needs to take a win here and there if he ever wants to advance.

11:50 im a gc3 peak kbm player and yes you can bind camera swivel to buttons, for example cam swivel left to F, cam swivel right to g, etc. but you are right the control you have with a joystick isnt there with kbm, and it is a factor to keep in mind if you have thoughts about choosing/switching between either

I also play kbm and tried using my mouse for camera but the game doesn’t recognize it as a free moving device, it only understands “mouse moved left/right/up/down” and just applies a full force movement for each time that detection happens. So every little movement u make with the mouse just causes the camera to spasm uncontrollably

The main thing abt this series is to teach us stuff so I think it's totally fine to play like you did Leth in the 1st match because you always pay attention to explain your thoughts (and the OT gave you even more time to explain what you do) so even if what you do can be called smurfing it's still for a good reason and hopefully the guys you win against end up watching this video and winning more often after learning a thing or two here

One of my biggest pet peves (Champ 1/2) Is when players spam Take the shot. You are not a coach, you are in the same rank as me lol so its funny even seeing it in gold too.

I think if your teammate makes a good pass to you, you should just try to score it. It will show the players the benefits of ball sharing and hopefully alter their play a little.

It's tough to turn off your game sense, so just by virtue of being in the right place at the right time, you are definitely defending better than a gold/plat. So, even if you don't take the offensive risks that your teammates take, you're gonna protect better and draw out the games.
This is why "no mechanics" series are wildly unrealistic in terms of what you can gain by playing like that (don't get me wrong I've still learned lots from them and like them) because the players doing them have a perfect read of the game, understand positioning and can take perfect 50s and can both time and aim their touches perfectly around players or to score etc. Probably the hardest stuff to do right consistently in the game.
I think you do an amazing job at explaining basic concepts, like how the back wall is used. Though I feel you could explain more "why" you make the touches you do in certain situations, especially in transition between offense and defense, or or vice versa. Thanks for doing this series. It really helps the player base.

I'm glad you commented about positioning yourself between the ball and the opponent. You also make subtle movements in preparation to touch the ball allowing you to control or direct the ball. While it seems obvious to those who've played enough, low ranks tend just barrel into the ball. They have no idea where it is going other than that a way.
in my opinion, when a tm8 leaves i think you should win otherwise the series will get stuck in the low ranks for a while. most people i feel want to see plat-champ gameplay since thats where most people are and thats where they wanna see how to improve
Leth, you can bind the look left look right and behind camera actions in KBM, I personally use my mouse buttons as left/right and my X key as a look behind functions. It's very possible and not very difficult to learn. Its very comfortable to me now after a couple games.
Can we get this to the top so Leth can see it?
Great video! I think it would be cool if you somehow made it so that the ball itself had a gravity field. A field strong enough to pull cars towards it if they get close enough.
You’re so kind Leth, god bless you brother. I think you should prolly go ahead and take the game in that situation though. You gave them every opportunity to score, 3 mins in ot, you have every right to win that especially after your teammate leaves.
for kb only I think that despite you playing "worse" on controller than you would on kb, it poses the difference between purposefully playing worse and having unexpected messups occassionally and showing how to handle them. Like when you deliberately play "worse" you're automatically thinking like 3 steps ahead of what to do if you bean something basic, but if it's accidental (as is common at the low ranks), then you have to come up with a solution on the fly. End of the day it's up to you, but just figured I'd add another viewpoint to it for your consideration
If you haven’t seen them - Leth has done a bunch of challenges using wacky and awful controllers. And he plays really well still. KBM isn’t going to have mistake moments the way you’re imagining it.

Im plat 1-2, and seeing the difference between his pov and mine in those lobbys is a crazy difference. Just his ability to stay calm and track the ball i think makes the biggest difference for high gold/low plat players.
11:49 Definitely possible. I'm using my Z and C for horizontal swivel and R and F for vertical. Not so comfortable as on controller, but I'm used to it and use it a lot

Lmao, that second match looked like all higher ranked lobby trying to pretend to be gold. These sudden pop offs with the clean aerials looked so weirdly calculated.

Watching this as a plat player it's amazing to see how, even when he's trying to play low rank, you can tell there's a fundamental difference. I think a big thing I'm surprised by his how confident he is of his location. Like 16:48 he seems to just know that ball isn't going into the goal. That spatial awareness itself is, obviously, atypical for the rank he's in. I'd probably have a slight panic there and be touching the ball just to make sure I know it's not going in net. It's just really cool to see the little things that come with such experience with the game.

Interesting point at 23:17, I do think you are playing a lot better defence than offence. It’s not necessarily the amount of saves be just knowing where the balls going and being able to get the touch before they get a chance to take a shot. You basically don’t miss, which I’m gold and play there’s definitely a lot of that lol
Almost no one below plat 2 can hit a ball coming past/over them consistently. That's the big difference that I see, it means he puts balls safe that most players don't and it means he can be further up the field in attack as 2nd/3rd man than most people that rank can be. I'm pretty solidly plat II in 2s and I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks this time through. There's a HUGE step up between plat 1 and Plat 3 in my experience.
23:20 - You are absolutely defending way above Gold level here. Especially your shadow defense, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Gold 3 player do, except kind of accidentally.
You aren’t doing mechanically difficult things, but since at this level their shots are nonexistent, you are effectively saving almost every attempt on net with a very well executed redirect into the corner or a controlled catch for possession. (Which you don’t normally see until Plat 2+)
Also you have Champion level consistency and control of your car in a Silver/Gold lobby. So even though you are doing weak touches, you are hitting 100% of them where you want to go, as opposed to the 40% of the lobby.
I am gold II and my games are totally nuts ... I find it very strange you managed to find opponents like that.

Leth. You are the type of player I strive to be. Respectful, reasonable, and cooperative.
The biggest factor in these low rank sections is purely just not missing the ball. Every time someone misses the ball in this rank all it takes is that one mistake and then a successful hit by the opponents to immediately forfeit a goal, and part of the reason for that is because no one is rotating back to be in position if you do miss. So both those things combined will almost guarantee wins at this rank. Higher up the misses start to mean slightly less because people are ready for it, but getting rid of whiffs entirely will make nearly any play style rank up extremely quickly.
I think the biggest difference between what a true gold/plat/diamond player and a pro like Leth that plays without mechs, is the consistency. Leth never misses a touch, whereas we miss a lot more :)
At 12:00 you say that there is no camera swivel on kbm, but there is. I have it set to q and e, and while it isnt analog, it is still very useful.
When your teammate leaves, you should lose like 99% of players at that rank. While it's really great to see how you *should* play at each rank, what people would want to see more than anything, is a pro-level player struggling to rank up, not because of a skill issue, but because if the same out-of-your-control variables we all face at lower ranks.
i bind my looking around thing to my side mouse buttons and it just moves it to the further most point of the rotation it works but i cant stop it at a certain angle but you can still do it
Honestly, I feel like it depends on the other teams demeanor in the game. If they are being good sports from what you can tell then I see no harm in not winning, but if they are coming off as toxic then i'd say score and win if you are in that 2v1 situation. Keep up the great work Leth, your content is amazing!
11:47 as a kbm player diamond/champ i admit it is annoying not having swivel but you get used to it, i have look behind binded and then switch from ball cam and car cam to look around if need be to look for teammates during the camera movement

I play Keyboard and mouse, it is possible to move your camera left,right,up and down. You just have to bind it to whatever keys you want, for example I have move camera left and right bound to my mouse 4 and 5 buttons.

This video is a great representation of Gold lobbies. Unfortunately you'll get even more afk/leavers in Plat, and more aggressive "Take the Shot" spammers anytime their car isn't literally touching the ball already they'll spam Take the Shot. Both of these issues fade away in low and mid diamond lobbies. So steel yourself for more of the same for the next couple episodes.

sad to say in diamond 2 i still get ppl spamming take the shot in situations where there is no shot available, then they will say wow afterwards like its ur fault u didnt make a goal out of nothing.
Leth, you can just jam in a prompt into generative fill after making a selection. Content-aware fill is the old way, heh. Also, simply guiding the ball toward the net is so far beyond the average gold player, lol.

11:40 I am keybaord and I can indeed swivel the camera left and right however when using the stick you can adjust on controller whereas on the keybaord it’s only one button so it does the full camera turn and you can adjust the speed in the settings
I love how passive you are, keep it up. You explain in the beginning of the series exactly why you play the way you play and that's more than enough of an explanation, anyone suggesting you start playing more offensively at these ranks are the people in these ranks so just ignore them. Take your chances when you have them but don't try to make a play out of nothing because then people will start to call you out for smurfing, you can't win with this stuff. Just read the room and act accordingly. If you see golds going for aerials and missing half of them, you can probably just stick to ground game like you've been doing so far. As you go up the ranks eventually you'll have to start going for aerials but even then they can just be simple touches to the corner so your teammate can take over possession. Don't start being the main character of your games, reinforce the mentality of working as a team like you're doing so far, it might even inspire higher ranked players to be more aware of how selfish they act on the field.
I’m definitely not gold but I’d love to see leth go crazy against lower ranks lol. Although I’d hate it if I saw leth in a diamond or champ tournament
What do you define as higher ranks? In my experience once you hit like 1500 mmr in 2v2 if you play selfish you lose unless you have like gc3/ssl mechanics. Most of the goals my team scores are passes from the corner or bump plays or solo plays. And actually the higher you get the more solo play focused the game gets. That or really good passing plays with 1 or more passes between players. Not attacking you either you are correct that like from diamond to champ it does get more and more selfish as you keep climbing, even low to mid gc1 is pretty much glorified c3, but just curious what you consider higher ranks lol 😆
with the 1v2 situation i personally think you played it to a T and should continue to do that exact same thing. it isn’t you’re fault that your teammates leave you shouldn’t carry the burden

I think you should definitely win given you stay at the mechanical level of the other players in a 2v1. If you decide to lose on purpose youre abusing matchmaking in a way by staying low mmr for longer than you really should. Seems to be the one argument Epic has for alt accounts is as long as youre moving up its fine

Don't feel bad leth taking a few wins for these videos. Your videos are helping alot of players learn the game! When you show how to play smart you teach others how to play smart as well. And the players who get the L learn as well!

Hey leth i just watched more of the video and noticed that u saved some balls in the second game using shadow defence.. you might want to explain that to the viewers as some players in champ who started late dont seem to have practiced it a lot as i noticed and diamands being almost incapable whenever me and my friend go on some trolling sesseions in lower ranks(we lose on purpose im not a bad person) so i am not sure if golds would even know when they are newer to the game that shadow defense is and shadow saves are a thing or have their own name. U might even want to tell them how they could get a hang of that mechanic if mechanical tips fit into this format that is.. it might actually be a good idea to give the players one mechanic they can practice at the start of each video and link them to some tutorial videos or training packs
There are mice (mouses? what) that have additional buttons on the side. Very useful for a quick look to the right or left!
about what you were talking about with kbm not being able to turn the camera or what not and how if your cam moved with your mouse it would be a annoying
a simple solution the devs can make is make a bind for us to where if we hold it, then it allows us to turn our camera by moving our mouse and when we stop holding the button it stops
For example say you have a extra few side buttons on your mouse and you use that as the bind, once you hold it you can swivel your camera with the direction that you move your mouse if that makes sense
lmk if you think that would be a great addition for kbm players (ive been a kbm player since ive started rl back in like 2020-21)
Idea for future episodes or perhaps spinoff series: Maybe ask your discord, or get on ballchasing, for some replays of the rank you'll be playing at, and review parts of them that stand out. Point out common things you see. The mistakes or just in general (more consistent jumps, movement, rotations, power shots, dribbles, etc). Would give you a larger sample size of that rank than what you experience naturally. Then you could know better how to emulate it in match. I know its more time commitment. But could be a great way to get more info per rank without you having to "effect" the rank as often. A sort of hybrid between gameplay review and actual road to ssl, where it's not just informing what should be done but also showcasing what is common in that rank. Might be too much effort. But I think you genuinely want to help every rank improve, so you might see it as worthwhile. Regardless, keep up the good work. I look forward to the later ranks as always.

Leth, would you consider loosing a bit more? As your account is fresh new you're getting +44mmr per game, meaning that you're climbing almost a rank every 2 games, si it would not give players enough play time to fully get a grasp of the rank they're looking for on the road to ssl

When your teammate leaves/ goes AFK, I think you do exactly what you did. You played it perfect, except overtime… I believe you need to go absolute monkey mode on them and score the most mechanical shot you can 😏 but honestly you played every part perfect. You’re perfect Leth ❤.
Idea for upgrading/adding something to the road. You were saying that this series probably isn't for new players (or not so much as first edition) because more skilled players are watching right now. So maybe (at least) try to educate players/randoms that you are playing with? Lets say give them 1-2 max advices during the game (in team chat?) like no running after the ball all the time, no stealing ball from team mates etc, some basic stuff (depending on the rank). And just see whats gonna happen. Are they say thanks and try to apply that or say duck you and dont give a duck about that... but it will be up to them :). But it is just my opinion that it would be something new/fresh for the series.
Side question: what controller are you using and why? What are yours top 3 best and worst controllers and why?

For what to do when your teammate is gone, a possibility to consider is to just throw the game. The reason I say that is replicating what it would be like for someone in that tier. Winning a 1v2 certainly is far from unheard of, but majorly will end with the 2 winning. If your teammate is gone it usually means you're going to lose that match. It's safe to say it's probably not happening to you any more than it's happening to anyone else in that rank.
Leth is the best rocket league player I know of. You could go rlcs if he tried to, you got this leth
Not sure if u read all the comments, but your car maneuvering on the ground, the parts where u turn back and position yourself properly, i dont think even diamonds can do that that easily as you do it and it makes people in gold in bad spots very easily

Honestly, I need to see 1v2s. My teammates chase so hard and whiff harder. I need to stop panicking when that happens
this is what 3v3 feels like at platinum. i rarely play 3v3 so im a much lower rank than i am in 2v2 (Diamond 1/2) and every time i play 3v3 its always both my teammates chasing each other trying to get to the ball first with very little rotations. i end up always having to play goalie 80% of the time

You can move camera on keyboard as well, I belive it's caleld swirl or something like that in settings. And yes I would love if rl made it so you can move your camera freerly using your mouse or stick on gamepad.

The games are taking forever because you’re:
1. making saves and controlled defensive touches that no lower-level player would ever be able to make
2. refusing to do anything on offense because you don’t want to score
Being too good on defense is just as ‘unfair’ as being too good on offense, even if scoring might feel worse. Have to be okay with scoring if it comes organically.
A high level thing that you are doing, that you don't see others do until around high diamond, is single jumping
I play KBM, you don't have full control over your camera. But you can look left and right and behind. Just have to adjust your transition speed if you want to swivel faster or slower.
I air dribbled in my mind about 4 times seeing the ball bounce and knowing the possibilities. - head hurts now-
You should Destroy lower ranks I know it helped me rank up
