    Great info, I am a coffee professional, and I really love how you broke things down to the basics, in a way that was humble and understandable. Great vid.

    For those of us that are on a budget, all u need is a grind,quality of water, temperature, good quality coffee and a pour over.

    A tip I saw James Hoffmann do to eliminate the flakes that fly around after grinding is to wet a spoon and give the beans a quick stir in the grinder (pre grinding) immediately before you grind. It actually works. I don’t mean a spoonful of water but the drop or so left on it does the job.

      Not if you refill the water reservoir with the actual coffee jug. Not good as the oils etc from the jug will get into the element and internal and mess it up down the road.
      Good video though!

    I just got the same coffee maker and will be getting it within a week or 2. What would you recommend when making coffee on the go using an 18oz-20oz tumbler. What would be a good R ratio?

    I bought an Oxo drip brewer and my coffee has been pretty watery tasting, waay worse than the drip I get at my local coffee shop and I use their beans. I use a Baratza encore and i'm wondering if I'm grinding too course or something. I also use filtered fridge water.

    • @benadkison6578
      @benadkison6578 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I would try grinding finer. Probably just move a few notches at a time.

    I'm beginning to think that I need a whole separate room in my house, for coffee. It takes up the whole damn counter, and there's grounds everywhere, just to make a cup. I guess I need a coffee shop room, for maximum efficiency. I suppose I should combine it with other drinks, like a bar... so as not to waste space.

    I've managed good results with a blade grinder (shake while grinding), but it's still hard to be consistent with it.

    • @BeardedCoffeeBlogger

    Questions for you, I just bought a moccamaster yesterday, I did 70 grams of coffee to a 40 oz pot. My SCALA zero grinder set in the middle, my wife says it’s bitter. She wants me to use less coffee and I think I need to grind 1 notch more course. Advice?

    • @mikecarlson101
      @mikecarlson101 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say start with a benchmark 60 grams to 1 liter water, 16.8: 1. Start there to bitter courser to sour finer. Everything starts from here

    What grind setting do you usually use on your Virtuoso?

      @@BeardedCoffeeBlogger does the water not go straight thru the beans at a coarse setting of 26-28?

    • @BeardedCoffeeBlogger
      @BeardedCoffeeBlogger  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@miles267 Technically my grinder is a Precisio (which Baratza doesn't make any more), it could very well be different numbers than the Virtuoso. So, for me it's the slightly course side of a standard drip grind. That's what I would aim for.

    This reminds me of high school chemistry 101 which I failed. I think I'll need to start drinking tea as these coffee tricks are getting a bit too complicated and detailed for me. Leave it to youtube to make a process I used for over 50 years now useless and without value.
