Right guys, sorry it’s taken me 3 months to finally get this filmed. I wanted to have some special guests to chat to you all too but actually after reading all your comments on my previous blogging tips videos I realised that you just want to hear what I’ve got to say. So here it is, no bells and whistles, just me chatting to you all about the process of working with brands, and remember this is just based on my own experiences, every blogger is different and others might do things differently 👍🏼
This is so helpful thank you. I'm new to this and though my main business is making candles I seem to have found myself blogging/vlogging and everything in between! It's fun, but I'm not sure where i'm headed with it?! Anyhow, your videos are great, very accessible presenting style which is lovely to watch and wishing you all the continued success as you go:) All the best, Jess x
Loved this, so many great tips and I do most of these too! I left a fulltime job for a parttime job last year so that now I work part social media manager for a brand and part blogger/youtuber. It’s a good way to get the best of both worlds and lots of experience too! One thing that I also value a lot on my blog is the disclaimer section so all my followers know exactly how I like to evolve my work around collabs etc. and so there is great transparency around that 👍🏻 having a part time job on the side allows me to be extra picky with the brands I work with, especially because I blog within the sustainability area which is still a bit of a toughy because many of the small, start-up brands dont always have a huge (or any at all) budget. Anyway thanks again for all your great tips in this series, I feel like it gives me that extra push towards becoming a professional! 💋
Use Less I have the biggest respect for you and anyone else that blogs and has a job, part time or full time 🙌🏼 In my eyes you are Wonder Woman ❤️ I love a disclaimer 😉
I teach high school business and this information is so useful, as I don't have a lot of knowledge about the blogging business. My students would find this interesting!
I saved this video for later when I pick up blogging again. At the moment with a toddler and a full time job it all gets a bit too much sometimes. This video is really useful and informative ! Thank you so much 🙏🏼
Wow, so interesting and informative, Im sure this will be invaluable for those who blog. Just shows how much work is involved behind the scenes, it’s very complex! X
i love your blogging tips videos, i've just watched all of them. i've wanted to start a blog for so long and i feel like now i have the information i need to finally do it
Loving this series!!! The information is fantastic and makes me want to take the leap and start blogging!! Thank you for all the work you put into your channel.
Well Emma. I enjoyed this video, I know nothing about anything on you tube so it was very interesting. I’m just a mum who watches and learns. Have to admit to unsubscribing from some who do nothing but collaborations. Gets very boring to watch someone always advertising for some brand or other, shouts out that’s it a all about £. I enjoy watching the ‘person’, their ideas, style, humour, family life, normal everyday bods like me, but with just that bit extra to brighten up my day and teach me a thing or two. Like you, Simon and the fur-babies. Please don’t change Xx
very informative ! ive always been curious how bloggers and youtubers earn their living, and no one explains as honestly as u do ! Didn't realise there's so much work behind the scenes !
There are soooo many avenues to blogging. Some bloggers/youtubers don't talk about it because that's not what their content is, and that's fine, we're all different ❤️
This is such valuable information and so carefully put together and explained so thoroughly. Your work ethic and respect for what you do is very commendable...well done 🙌🏼
I'm not a blogger, but this was very interesting. It's good to know how blogging works and makes me appreciate how much work goes into the content bloggers put out. I've watched every single one of your videos bc you're my favorite TH-camr. I love your vibes, you're funny and down to earth. I love watching you, Steve and the 5 babies. Thanks for sharing, Emma!
Great video Emma! I really enjoyed listening to your personal experiences & tips you've shared. So thank you for being so open, so honest and so informative about this subject. Lots of love from Istanbul
Thank you for these tips, very useful! I have used your first two to sort out what my blog will be about. Now to sort out how to create that same content on YT.
Thank you so much Emma for advice. I'm currently working on making my blog public and your blogging tips have being helping me a lot along the way so much. You are such an inspiration and I just love the content you create. - greetings from Germany 😘😘😘
Emma, can’t thank you enough for this video. You provided so many wonderful tips and insights... it came at the right time as I was approached by a brand and we have a call tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes... love all your videos 💕😊👏👏👏
Great insights Emma, will done and keep soldiering on 👌🏾....love your vids as always. Sounds like a lot of work but you handle it so well and equally professionally.
Such a helpful video! I’m starting to take social media more seriously in hopes of establishing a brand for myself soon. I’ve had a few brands reach out to work together but not on a pay agreement as of yet but I know I have to start somewhere. Thanks Emma! Love from Toronto :)
Brit Ferguson yep everyone has to start somewhere and lots of smaller brands don’t have any budget so sometimes that can be why no payment is offered 👍🏼
Very useful tip....I'm having a full-time job but I'm so afraid to be a blogger ...but now I'm getting hold of things ... thanks ...Ur advice r really encouraging....
I have no intention of becoming a blogger, you are very generous & candid with your information Emma , very interesting & bloody hard work as well 😳😳🇬🇧❤️xx
Hi Emma!! As a new blogger, I am so thankful for this series!! I was just wondering at what point in your blogging career do you suggest reaching out to brands? Follower count? Unique hits per month? I’m trying to decide when it’s appropriate to start working with brands! Thanks so much!! You’re so helpful and such a great blogger, wife, and dog mom :) love you, Simon and the five b’s 💕💕
It's difficult to put a number on things because there are so many different factors to consider. A friend of mine is an incredible photographer and she's been creating content for brands from the days of having a 3 digit following, but that's because her photography is insane. I would probably say around the 5K following mark is established enough, but it will also depend on the quality of your content and also that you are posting consistently. In terms of blog stats it's really tough to say. It's about the time being right for you, do you feel confident enough that you could create content for a brand and work on a paid collaboration etc. But also don't be disheartened if you reach out to a brand and they don't answer because that happens, it still happens to me now for various reasons so just brush it off and crack on with the next 👍🏼
Amazing information on your 3 parts of blogging! Thank you! I love the way you are so organize with all the information needed, I have been dreaming of blogging and you were a sign the universe has given me I was wondering if there's a way you can do a video of the beginning of the idea, building the blog based on the idea and publishing it, you would be perfect to show us all inspiring bloggers kind of like that how to from beginning to end on a blog from you, the best! Thank you again and love your style❤ many blessings!😄
Thanks Emma for great tips. I've just started my YT channel (which I didn't plan on doing, it was spontaneous decision) and your tips are very helpful! Love your videos
Veeeery interesting! But I have a bit strange questions Why don't u go for shopping in COS??? I think it's could be so much ur jam! All neutral colors and shapes, interesting design, I really think u could like it)
I just think it's a bit overpriced to be honest. I do go in there sometimes but nothing ever wows me enough to buy it. There are just other brands that I prefer that's all 👍🏼
Wow Emma i am so thankful I came across this video series. Such WONDERFUL insight into the world of a full time blogger. I never would have known the extent of the work you go to when creating content for a brand. It’s eye opening, thank you. I have a question. My blog is called Chalet Girl - i am British but now working and living as a hotel manager in the French alps, and I have enjoyed creating content about my life and work out here. In the spring I’m moving to Lyon to embark on a new chapter in my life, and will be wanting to change up the content. Even down to interior design. Do I keep this niche name? Change it to my own name? (I want to do this but I’m cautious when hunting for jobs), or do I find a new brand name? Difficult decisions. I don’t expect any specific answers but insight or advice is most welcome! X
Thanks Emma, very interesting information. Not had a paid partnership yet but plenty of freebies. Would you recommend joining an agency or is it better to go it alone? TIA
wow honesty - thanks. I am not a vlogger blogger but I appreciate hearing about this. Can't you off load some of this work to your number one employee to do (the data collection every month, the email follow up...)?
R I prefer not to as he has enough on his plate with all the photography and video side of things. Ideally I should have an assistant by this point but I really struggle to let go of certain areas of the business because I just like doing them myself 👍🏼
Emma Hill Yes. My boss vlogs. Maybe Simon can share tips on how he works with you on your vlog. Does he create timelines, plans, what about filing you? Etc. Thanks!!!
Hi Emma, I have found all the videos in this series extremely helpful, especially since I started my blog a few months ago. Thanks so much for the info.
Hi Marion. I used Wordpress. I purchased a theme, downloaded the demo content and replaced it with my own. I applied to Rakuten, Share A Sale, Amazon, and Target for affiliate links (got accepted), and that was it. I also just started posting youtube videos to promote it. I don't have many views yet, but I'm hopeful. God bless to you.
Louise IE please don't say that. A positive attitude is very important. I don't feel pretty every day, but that doesn't stop me. Your personality and passion will be the key, so work with that. Take care😘😘😘
Such an informative video--thanks! Do you have any advice on working with influencer platforms that facilitate brand collaborations? It is hard to know which ones are trustworthy and are worth the time. Would you just suggest just creating a relationship with a brand directly instead?
WeekendWishing there are so many different agencies and platforms out there. Sometimes brands don’t deal with bloggers directly so there’s not much option in those situations. I personally prefer dealing with a brand directly but that’s just me. However I do work on paid collaborations via affiliate networks like RewardStyle 👍🏼
Yes, part 3! Question. When sending a draft for approval to the brand which format do you send to them if a blog post i.e word .doc. PDF? Thanks, Emma, great series.
Pixel Inch I send them the actual blog post so they can see it on the blog. I have a plug-in on Wordpress which allows me to send s brand a private preview, it generates a link that you can send to the brand and it expires after a few hours. But the post doesn’t have to be live on your blog which is the beauty of it. So it would depend on what platform you’re blogging on 👍🏼
Great thanks. I also use Wordpress for my blog. Could you tell me the name of the plug-in you use? Many thanks, Emma, great content as always x Heather
So interesting that most of your paid collaborations have been from a previous gifting relationship.. Is this common in the UK with other bloggers that you know? It has been mostly the opposite for me.
to be honest I don't really chat to other bloggers as I keep myself to myself but I think a lot of companies want to test the water first to see if they will in fact get a return on a paid collaboration.
I have way more engagement on TH-cam than on my blog. Does this mean I should focus on TH-cam, despite the fact that our blog is the only medium that is truly ours / free from algorithms? Would love to hear your thoughts on this Emma (and others too who share this dilemma!)
It's a tricky one and a question that all creators will ask themselves. If you can split the focus across both platforms then that would be the ideal scenario. But I guess it depends on what you want from either platform and what gives you enjoyment. It's always going to be TH-cam that gets more engagement because it's video and video content is more engaging but that doesn't mean that people don't still love reading your blog 👍🏼
Thank you Emma. I'll try to maintain both, because I personally still find blogs to be valuable (e.g. when I'm researching reviews or DIYs -- when the Google results come up I always click the blog results rather than video results.) Thanks for your thoughts
Very very informative, i was thinking to start blogging but its just mixing a lot i dont kno where to start like i dont kno what im good at or what topic im going for. I am a homebody so it was kinda nice to work at home
You might be best starting with my first video in the series, as this one might seem a bit daunting to start off with and there's lots of tips on what you should do before building up to this stage 👍🏼
This was really useful. Phew what hard work for you both. Much respect:-) As a book tube Vlogger our numbers and stats are so much smaller. About a year ago I was offered a big deal but turned it down as I was scared to sign the contract it was so daunting. In hindsight it would have enabled my channel to grow so much more. I did check the contract carefully but was afraid to take the plunge as it was for a year. Any advice for me on this please. Catherine xx
Jayne Catherine On Books following your gut is always important but don’t let it rule your mind. If you’re unsure about a contract get someone else to check over it, and google any terms you’re unsure of 👍🏼 A contract for a year would probably put me off as a lot can change in a year but having said that we are in two different industries so it would be very different for fashion. I usually just rationalise something and think ‘Am I happy to do this? Is this a brand I love? Is it possible for me to do this? Are the terms fair?’ If ‘yes’ then go for it 👍🏼
I don't use a phone to even speak to Simon let alone a brand 😂 Everything is digital, but some face to face when I get invited to meet with a brand 1 on 1 for lunch or a breakfast, it's all about convenience 👍🏼
designerdiva1103 that would be a gifting basis which isn’t a paid collaboration. It’s just my advice to only put paid collaborations on there because I’ve heard from some brands that they don’t like it if you imply you have worked with them in a paid basis when it’s not. I guess if you state that it was on a gifting basis then that would be fine 👍🏼
Hey Emma, first of all I could just listen to you for hours 😂 your great! But.. What’s it actually like running a Blog and social media following, did you find getting to your point was a gradual and manageable process? I like the idea of starting one but still not sure ( I think it’s lack of confidence tbh), & your TH-cam explanations are so helpful but make it sound like a lot more work than I thought 😂 .. having said that your first video has given me a lot of confidence. Are there any other bloggers you would recommend having a look at for inspiration/ different ways of doing things etc if this is your first time trying to start a blog. Xxx
Harriet Turley yes it was definitely a gradual process, it’s taken me 10 years to get to this point. If you’re looking at doing this full time or as a career/job then yes it’s a lot of very hard work, a lot of personal sacrifice, you’ll more than likely end up working 7 days a week but it’s incredibly rewarding to run your own business and be your own boss. However if you just want to blog as a hobby then you can do as much or as little as you like 👍🏼 Admittedly I don’t really look at other blogs very often just because I have a lack of time but I did link some useful sites below in the description box which offer lots of amazing tips from tech to just understanding some of the various aspects of running a blog 👍🏼 Having said that one blogger I love who I think does everything well and who always stay true to who she is is Aimee Song from Song Of Style.
Hi Emma... First Comment !!! I absolutely love your Blog as well as your Pintrest Page as well as your Facebook but mainly your TH-cam Channel. I bought my black velvet hangers, you are my inspiration... so I started a Blog. Please can I e-mail you and see if i can ask some questions because I don't want to fill your comment section with questions, and I am based in South Africa. Thanks.
Because we are creating the content for the brand, therefore we are working for the brand, so it tends to be this way around as they are emptying us, not the other way around 👍🏼
Emma Hill The industry is still relatively new and it's still growing, so it's interesting to see how business relationships evolve. I look forward to seeing future updates to this series. Thanks!
Hi Emma, great video btw. When reaching out to brands it worries me a bit as I only have 2 digits worth of followers on Instagram and about 11 subs on my blog, I’m just not sure if the brands would even take me seriously. xx
Timi if I’m being honest I would say to wait until you’re a little more established, just to avoid wasting your time. Keep growing your audience and make sure you’re consistently posting and you’ll soon get to a point where brands will become interested. I’d say around the 5k mark is a good point to start getting in touch with brands 👍🏼
Right guys, sorry it’s taken me 3 months to finally get this filmed. I wanted to have some special guests to chat to you all too but actually after reading all your comments on my previous blogging tips videos I realised that you just want to hear what I’ve got to say. It's fun, but I'm not sure where i'm headed with it?! Anyhow, your videos are great, very accessible presenting style which is lovely to watch and wishing you all the continued success as you go:) All the best, Jess x
Well I wish you the best of luck, everyone loves a candle so I'm sure this will be a thriving business ❤️
Loved this, so many great tips and I do most of these too! I left a fulltime job for a parttime job last year so that now I work part social media manager for a brand and part blogger/youtuber. It’s a good way to get the best of both worlds and lots of experience too! Emma Hill the Blogging fairy godmother - thank you so much for your thoughtful advice!
I love how you will take time to inspire and help baby bloggers like us! X
This is so amazingly comprehensive and honest. You're a gem
I teach high school business and this information is so useful, as I don't have a lot of knowledge about the blogging business. My students would find this interesting!
This was so so helpful!! I appreciate how you've taken the time to explain all of this information in depth. Thank you very much Emma!
This was so helpful Emma and I’ve been full time blogging for three years now, it’s just always nice to hear what others are doing in this industry ❤️
Thank you Emma for these fab blogging tips on how to work with brands! You're so inspiring xx
This information is so valuable I can’t believe people actually dislike it. Thanks Emma💕
Thank you for taking your time to film this video is was very! Informative and very glad you made it! X
Fabulous video
My daughter starting out and I was thrilled to hear this is exactly what she’s doing 💕💕
i love your blogging tips videos, i've just watched all of them. i've wanted to start a blog for so long and i feel like now i have the information i need to finally do it
You’re great Emma, thanks for the solid information and for how clearly you explained it!
Loving this series!!! The information is fantastic and makes me want to take the leap and start blogging!! Thank you for all the work you put into your channel.

Coincidentally I just got bored with watching another vlogger doing a “life update” which was all about collaboration and sales. Very boring indeed.
very informative ! ive always been curious how bloggers and youtubers earn their living, and no one explains as honestly as u do ! Didn't realise there's so much work behind the scenes !

Very informative, so much more to think about apart from trying on clothes 😂
Loved it. 👏
I’m not pretty enough, or skinny enough to be a blogger but this is actually dead interesting ❤️
It's heartbreaking that you feel like that because blogging is for everyone ❤️

I have a plug-in on Wordpress which allows me to send s brand a private preview, it generates a link that you can send to the brand and it expires after a few hours. But the post doesn’t have to be live on your blog which is the beauty of it. So it would depend on what platform you’re blogging on 👍🏼
Great thanks. I also use Wordpress for my blog. Could you tell me the name of the plug-in you use? Many thanks, Emma, great content as always x Heather
Pixel Inch I can’t actually remember the name of it but I’ll check it out later when I’m logged in to my Wordpress and I’ll send it to you 👍🏼
Many thanks Emma.
Oh and i love love love your Insta too
I have way more engagement on TH-cam than on my blog.
Goodmorning Emma❤❤❤
Thanks a lot for this video 😘
This was really useful. Phew what hard work for you both. Much respect:-)
As a book tube Vlogger our numbers and stats are so much smaller.
Are the terms fair?’ If ‘yes’ then go for it 👍🏼
Thank you Emma. My gut was not to go with it at the time. CXx
Great info,,,enjoy it even though no blog for me 🤓. Maybe some day. Curious, What percent of your communication with brands is via email? Vs phone?
I don't use a phone to even speak to Simon let alone a brand 😂 Everything is digital, but some face to face when I get invited to meet with a brand 1 on 1 for lunch or a breakfast, it's all about convenience 👍🏼
If I got paid in products instead of money can I still put that company down as being paid by them?
designerdiva1103 that would be a gifting basis which isn’t a paid collaboration. It’s just my advice to only put paid collaborations on there because I’ve heard from some brands that they don’t like it if you imply you have worked with them in a paid basis when it’s not. I guess if you state that it was on a gifting basis then that would be fine 👍🏼
Emma Hill thank you so much!!
However if you just want to blog as a hobby then you can do as much or as little as you like 👍🏼
Admittedly I don’t really look at other blogs very often just because I have a lack of time but I did link some useful sites below in the description box which offer lots of amazing tips from tech to just understanding some of the various aspects of running a blog 👍🏼 Having said that one blogger I love who I think does everything well and who always stay true to who she is is Aimee Song from Song Of Style.
Thanks so much, as always 😘
Emma should we select a google+ or blogger profile ? What do you recommend ? X
❤️ as always.
Thank you :)
I love you elegancy ..
Salutations from the Barcelona city. Spain
Thanks.
Khanya Buthelezi yes of course you can, please email contact@ejstyle.co.uk 💋
Why don't bloggers/contractors create their own standard contracts, that include hourly, transportation, late payment fees, etc.?
Because we are creating the content for the brand, therefore we are working for the brand, so it tends to be this way around as they are emptying us, not the other way around 👍🏼
Emma Hill The industry is still relatively new and it's still growing, so it's interesting to see how business relationships evolve. I look forward to seeing future updates to this series. Thanks!
Outstanding, did you ever give my music a listen? Love to see more!
Great
Hi Emma, great video btw.
Thanks Emma
Timi i think they will just think that ur worth it 👍🏻
Sehr vid und nice ! xD Schau auch doch einmal beim yt von Roland Leonardo (er ist zwar noch ziemlich klein) vorbei, er hat auch .
👍🏽
Nice
Hello, Emma! I'm wandering, just curiosity, what was your biggest surprise country wise? Like - o, someone from Russia is following my YT channel :)
