I'm ultra patriotic and also would prefer an English manager (if a decent one was available, so Thomas is fine) but no way would I expect a foreigner to sing OUR national anthem. How silly is that? It's a ridiculous question to ask. Most of the players don't even sing. Just let the words and meaning fill their ears and swell the chest. You sing the anthem for patriotic reasons not for TV.

I thought he was pledging allegiance to England football, not the nation at large 🤔. Even pledging allegiance to the English FA would mean honouring Prince William, not King Charles, as the anthem signifies.

But having researched his background, he was apparently born and bred in Birmingham so I would have thought he is English. That said, a lot of players play for national teams because of family relations. I also start to think (perhaps cynically!) if nationality is not important for the head coach of a national team and the national anthem is not important either, then what is the point of any of this?

No one has so far mentioned his potential usefulness in coaching the next generation of English coaches at St Georges. I would have put him in there for a few months even if only to help them develop a decent training syllabus to work to.
A fantastic appointment hiring Tuchel & his conduct/wording when interviewed was very impressive & I'm backing him 100%,he was the best available & exactly what we needed for our national team. Top work by the FA,but should've been sooner in my opinion. 😁⚽👍

There’s very little in the talent pool of English coaching at the moment, and FA have made a great decision going for Tuchel.
I normally agree with Simon but that was a poor example about becoming an American citizen. To Work in America you do not need to pledge allegiance so I have no idea where he’s going with that. Would an English coach sing the German national anthem? I think it would be inappropriate and anyone with half a brain would respect if Tuchel didn’t sing it. Ridiculous.

If he has become a citizen of the United Kingdom then yes he should sing it. But if he's still a German citizen and he's only working for the England national team then of course not. It's ridiculous to suggest he has to sing it. If he chooses to, that is different
I'm torn. I don't think he should be forced to sing it, but he could be encouraged. I've lived in a foreign country for over 15 years and feel I could sing their anthem, doesnt mean I feel less English or am insulting England. Having said that our anthem is the most ridiculous one in the world, talking about made up things like gods and kings. It needs updating and maybe more people would want to sing it... Including foreigners who chose to live in England..
