The Mr. X named Guy is on his 5th and final day as champion on this May 2001 episode of Hollywood Squares. On this episode, Guy (with his 4-day total of $68,480) plays against the new Ms Circle named Cheryl.
I assume the "Phil" referred to in Maury's first question, is none other than the legendary Phil DONAHUE, and I believe she said this at the 1996 daytime emmys when she presented that year's lifetime achievement award?
Panelists: 1. Wendy Mallack 2. Star Jones 3. Maury Povich * 4. Kate Jackson 5. Kathy Griffin 6. Richard Lewis 7. Oscar the Grouch 8. Brad Garrett 9. Whoopi Goldberg * = The Person who asked the opening question
oh DUH. I shoulda known (rolls eyes.) but heck it came from Big Bird what else was I expecting? he wouldn't have been allowed to curse, even if "Hollywood Squares" was more of an adult show.
Here's what aired in primetime: ABC- Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, ABC Monday Night Movie (Anne Frank: The Whole Story, part 2) CBS- The King of Queens (Pregnant Pause), Everybody Loves Raymond (Frank Paints the House; Ally's Birth), Family Law (Planting Seeds) Fox- Boston Public (Chapter Twenty-Two), Ally McBeal (The Wedding) NBC- The Crocodile Hunter (Big Crocodile Diaries), Weakest Link, Third Watch (...and Zeus Wept) UPN- Moesha, The Hughleys, The Parkers, Girlfriends WB- 7th Heaven (Are, part 2), Roswell (The Departure) In late night: Late Show with David Letterman (Ray Romano, Dennis Tito) Tonight Show with Jay Leno (Rob Schneider, Dave Matthews Band) Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn (Amy Brennaman)
When they fired Whoopi Goldberg and other staffers, the show went downhill fast. Wish it was still on; by the sound of it, it did pretty well against "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!" for a while.
"And Oscar the Grouch" *cheering intesifies*
Those questions were intentionally designed for the individual celebrity, that way you don't have a sexually charged question for a kids character.
I really want this game to come back
It would've been a perfect covid distancing show!
@@jimmiecarrollOMG it would've!!!
Surprise! It is coming back on January 2025 on CBS!
Oscar AND Big Bird in the closer?
RIP Carol Spinney. Really underappreciated how well he could play both characters.
He played both on Peter Marshall's "Hollywood Squares" in the 1970's.
27:44 Oscar:First I’m Working In A Trash Can,Now I’m Working In A Box!!! I’ve Gotta Have A Talk With My Agent!!!
R I p Carroll spinney
Big Bird
Oscar as well as Big Bird was on all versions hosted by Peter Marshall, John Davidson, and Tom Bergeron
I wonder if Tom would meet Alec Baldwin again in the new combined gameshow hour.
And yet it was one person.
@@rebeccamichael626 Yes, Carroll Spinney
They need to bring this back.
CBS owns Hollywood Squares
Was rebooted into a few versions on cable. Country, Hip-Hop, and Celebrity.
They will be reviving the show for CBS in 2025.
@@MrWildcat2009 Maybe in the daytime lineup with Let's Make a Deal and The Price is Right.
Maurys courage not only changed my life, it totally changed my intuition. Thank you for your support and contributions.
Your welcome
He's retiring now.
He is still married to Connie Chung.
The local commercials are businesses around NYC, so it was broadcast on WCBS-2.

Tom asked Oscar a question specifically for him! He may be a grouch, but I still love him!
What is the biggest human irritant?
Oscar: M E
Whoopie Goldberg
I love Hollywood the lights and the camera the glitter the glamour.
5:24- Seriously, you aren't an irritant, Oscar!

I'm NOT sure if any of you know this but one of the panelists Star Jones happens to be the current judge on "Divorce Court" as of 2022.
I love the introduction so much better than the one with the gameshow host week.
Brad Garrett 😍😍😍
14:19 The English Bagels with Charlie Day inadvertently maiming his friend for a bagel, not the chick, for the bagel.
The host of Twenty One himself, Maury Povich
7:05 cute adorable baby penguins
It is coming back! At the timing of this writing, cbs is making a reboot of Hollywood squares
I was getting ready to Graduate from 8th Grade when this episode aired

27:52 Next Hollywood Squares…..
Imagine hiding under a desk while holding up the puppet. Not comfy. Still, Oscar is funny.
5:12 32nd Season of Sesame Street (2001).
Richard Lewis looks a lot like Brad Garrett.
R.I.P Richard Lewis
27:44-27:50- Good one Oscar!
I was finishing third grade when this episode was broadcast.
I think Guy's last name is Smiley, since Oscar the Grouch is here lol
The ding sound when X or O claims a square is exactly the same as the one Family Feud is currently using
W H O CARES

Diana, Princess of the People, was dating the son of the owner of Harrod's, when she died in 1997 in a highway tunnel.

Alot of comments on Oscar and Maury not many on the fact Wendee Malick aka Eda from The Owl House is there.
Guy will Return for the HOLLYWOOD SQUARES Tournament of Champions
For this Bonus Round, I would have picked 1 of the following 3 Squares.
1: Kate Jackson
2: Kathy Griffin
3: Wendie Malick
Well I would have picked star Jones .
Love it when we get Sesame Street characters on game shows
I assume the "Phil" referred to in Maury's first question, is none other than the legendary Phil DONAHUE, and I believe she said this at the 1996 daytime emmys when she presented that year's lifetime achievement award?

oh DUH. I shoulda known (rolls eyes.) but heck it came from Big Bird what else was I expecting? he wouldn't have been allowed to curse, even if "Hollywood Squares" was more of an adult show.
Do you know why so many VCRs sold between the 80s and 2010? So you wouldn't have to watch commercials. Thumbs down.
See for me some of these commercials add to the nostalgia factor.
Jim Henson would been proud thank you Caroll Spinney for bringing us both Oscar and big bird
Do you have the other episodes with Oscar?
This was a Week After I Graduated from High School
Me too
No one told me this was a Seasame Street and Owl House crossover!
I knew Kermit was on Hollywood Squares but not Oscar the Grouch.
Big bird shows up as well
And Elmo, too!!
AN era when Shadoe Stevens was a thing. Remember the show "DAVE" with Harry Anderson as Dave Barry?
When It Comes to Maury, You Are NOT the Father
Maury “You Are Not The Father!”

🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
The contestant Guy retires with $83,572.
Brittle nails that break and won't grow?
Whoopi was totally given answers, wasn't she?
When they fired Whoopi Goldberg and other staffers, the show went downhill fast.
Wish it was still on; by the sound of it, it did pretty well against "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!" for a while.
I came here for Oscar, I whimpered because of the prices on the commercials.. oh how we all wish.
All these celebs should've stayed in their squares.
Kathy is such a narcissist lol
Imitating Don Morrow from SALE OF THE CENTURY...
Champion GUY WOODSON Has Won Cash and Prizes Totalling... $83,572
That’s not Maury Maury tells u if ur the father or not get ur facts straight😀the name of the host of this show is Tom griswold
Hey, if you're referring to me, I wasn't talking about the host, I was talking about one of the squares in this episode.
And his name is Tom Bergeron. I'm surprised you didn't even get that.
Thats gotta be the clumsiest attempt at a joke ive ever seen, gold star for trying though
