I burn all my limb wood. Sometimes I probably get carried away on how small I cut them down to burn the amount of heat you get is amazing. It's especially nice when there barkless and ready to burn immediately. Stay safe my friend
Limb wood is always worth it. I guess it's up to the cutter / burner as to whether "The Juice is Worth the Squeeze." If you only want split wood, then stop when the branches get to a point where you can't split, but I cut down to about 2" limbs to make fires start and to fill my stove.
@@surroundedbyjaggoffs cuz it’s mostly cambium outer layers plus the bark. Bark burns quick and leaves lots of ash but it puts out some wicked btu. And whene you mix it evenly in the pile, it works quite well as gap filler and it’s nothing more than additional cordage.
Burned spruce from moms yard. Swear, some of the bigger limb wood is heavier than log wood 2x it's size. Burns, maybe not hotter, but definitely longer
Crisscrossing the end would be your best bet as in your previous video when Amanda was stacking it kept falling. You could have that in totally full, see you tomorrow!
We did a video several months ago on this same topic. It does take some time to cut and stack all the limb wood - but we were shocked how much additional firewood we got out of the smaller pieces we previously would have not dealt with.
I try to use as much of the limb wood as possible. Even 2-3" I don't mind bucking it up and using it. I just feel like using as much of the tree as possible for firewood is the best policy IMO.
I have ashley wood stove in my dinning room that loves limb wood .theres a differance between stoves and furnaces . The bigger the fire box the bigger the chunk. As far as those stumps rip them out or you will be forever pissed. it's that simple. thanks Dan .
Limbwood is definitely worth it, especially when you have the rounds off the ground like in that tree. They burn great in the wood stove. I also have a kinetic wood splitter which makes splitting that stuff in half, easy fast and productive
Hello Dan. I use anything 3” or bigger. One split up to about 4”… larger goes through the 4 way. The woodyard is opening up nicely. I can’t wait to see what type of building you end up with.
Depends if the limb wood has to be cut or not. When dragging out my dead ash I only leave on the bigger stuff. If I'm cutting something that's down in a field, I'll take it down to about ballbat size
That load of limb wood might just be the hottest burn you have had in the boiler all winter! Being this close to the wood stacks. I would be keeping a lot more than normal myself. In the woods, it would be left for fertilizer!👍
I cut up limb wood cuz you have to move it anyway! When I get into branch wood it gets thrown Into a brush pile! Some kind wood I use in my bundles too, it all brings in the cash. If people want to get that picky buying it the hardware store down the road sells it for more $$$$!
With a Hardy OWB I will cut Limb wood to 30" similar to you. I usually can't stack it tight enough to get the burn time as splits, but I use them when I'm out doing other things and am near the stove for a couple hours.
18° in N.E. Ohio this morning at 7:50am EST. Colder than most of the winter here. We also got a little shot of lake effect yesterday afternoon. Maybe an inch or two. Joe at OWB probably got it too.
Bunk winter we had upstate New York. We get over 200” of snow on average. I think we didn’t hit 70” this year I don’t think. The lake was warm too. Shoulda got hammered down with lake effect but it wasn’t cold enough on a west wind and most of the winter was east wind.
Exactly what I would do with it, I can fit 5 foot long in my boiler and limb wood burns great. I have tons of good stuff in the wood yard that is worth my time to make firewood out of. I have acres of small alder and maple that is going in the boiler as I clear to replant my property with better quality trees. Great video.
I cut down to 2 inch. I don’t split till about 4. If the barks off roll rounds are good option even bigger. We are getting snow right now and tonight. Winters definitely hanging on. Keep up the good work.
If i rember right i think you were not that impresed with the large bags ,i use my forks on my loader with a pallet under it so its not on the ground and it can be moved easy, then i put a small tarp about 5x5 just enought to covert the top i use a convYor to load them after about a year and a half its down to about about 15 percent i use them for all my cutoffs for me i can put 3 in my side garage and if th sides are wet from rain or snow i just run a fan for a few days and it dries out for me they work out great, not everyone has the space to do that, love your videos keep them comming
Limb wood is also more dense than the main trunk. Look at the grain structure and you will see they are closer together. Has to be stronger to handle wind. Additionally you have a boiler that will eat anything. To pile it up and burn would be a waste.
I like limb wood, especially from dead trees, simply because I do not need to split it to make a good overnight fire in my basement wood heater. I have a wood heater, not a boiler. I do not save every tiny branch but anything 3 inches or bigger diameter, make heat! LOL
Never degrade Limbwood I use it all the time and I just hate to see anything go to waste !!!two inches is usually about it so . i dont split dead wood up to 12 inch. My fire door is 14 inches, even if it's fresh wood then it has to be seasoned ash like that I usually cut it too about 10 round inches and then after 10 inches I split it two season it!! Bigger stuff is like a cigar you just kinda let it burn from end to end I have a wood stove wood furnace I should say not an outdoor one handling all those pieces and putting it in the basement is time consuming so I like to go for bigger stuff and keep the smaller stuff for starting the fires don't let a good wood go to waste is my motto thanks Dan

I try to recuperate as much wood as possible, everything let’s say above thumb size is good for burning in the soapstone fireplace when dry. Sounds silly to you but, since getting rid of the excess limp costs money (and not some Pennies…) and burning it outside is strictly forbidden…
I can promise you that this limb wood is worth it for every european. People have big circular saws just to cut the limbs to length. You don't always have to split it.
If you have a top handle saw it’s not bad to cut with one hand and throw the cut piece in to a bucket/ wheelbarrow without having to pick it up. The bending over and picking up small pieces is what I find annoying.

Well I was using my small 180 and throwing the limbs into the tractor bucket...from there I hauled them up to the boiler and burned them that night. So not sure there was a better way to process them up but maybe.
Heck yeah we burn limb wood... I cut pretty much anything that’s under 12” diameter to 4’ lengths. Anything under 6” diameter goes straight into the boiler @ 4’. The rest gets cut in half so it’s easier to toss into the worlds smallest boiler door🤬 Bless’ns to ya, Tedd
