I feel like that's the plan. I would love if at the endo of each added video, maybe he'd do an overall, updated ranking of all the stories/episodes. I also hope these rankings are sprinkled out before Russell T Davies' era begins, but completely understand how time-consuming it would be.
I love how sex is discussed in Doctor Dances it relates very well to the Sex positive feminism the rest of the episode deals with. Literally the situation wouldn't have happened if Nancy had been allowed to raise Jamie without being shamed for being single and pregnant
A really good list. Here is my ranking of Series 1: 1. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances 2. Dalek 3. Bad Wolf/The Parting of The Ways 4. Father’s Day 5. Boom Town 6. The Unquiet Dead 7. The End of The World 8. Rose 9. Aliens of London/World War Three 10. The Long Game
Crazy! Your list is virtually identical to mine. I'd swap The End of the World and Rose around but I agree with every other placing. I was going to put up my list but now I don't have to.
10: The Long Game 9: The Unquiet Dead 8: Boom Town 7: Rose 6: The End of the World 5: Fathers Day 4: Aliens of London / World War 3 3: Bad Wolf / Parting of the Ways 2: Dalek 1: The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances
The perfect opener, the perfect Darlek introduction, the best finale, a first rate historical, aliens that were truly alien not just men with brow ridges (looking at you Star Trek) and deeply personal character driven story telling. This is why Dr Who is still on our screens and why the return of RTD to the helm brings so much hope for the future. Never expect perfection and remember the show never took itself too seriously with fart jokes and belching bins so don't expect Russell to recreate this just expect him to try new things and entertain us all and just occasionally melt our hearts.
I've watched this video many times and have finally come up with my personal ranking of series one: 1. Dalek 2. Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways 3. Father's Day 4. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances 5. Boom Town 6. Rose 7. The Unquiet Dead 8. The End of the World 9. Aliens of London/World War III 10. The Long Game
I hope there’s a series 2 ranking soon as this vid vid is amazing! I especially love how you used music which is distinct to each episode you’re ranking! It gave me a whole new appreciation for Gold and how he made every episode unique with its soundtrack! Thank you for giving me this extra appreciation! And what a fabulously edited video! Glorious!
Boom town is definitely underrated, it's obviously a way to save budget sort of story but I'm glad because it gives us a character story about a returning villain who slowly changes her ways. The ending might look light the villan going back to her old ways but l sore it as her family instincts to escape but the Tardis gives her what she wanted.
I remember the two part season finale making me the fan I am as well, the drama of her having left and then coming back and then the death of 9th and how 9 did his regeneration, along with the cliffhanger and angst of rose having been “killed” I mean I was a fan before but this really cemented it in for tue show in the future
i’m a little hurt by 1 and 2 not being the other way around but the rest i can agree with. the parting of the ways is incredibly good but man, father’s day gets me every single time without fail. the way we get to know and love pete tyler in just 45 minutes is remarkable. paul cornell is an underrated writer for doctor who, he also wrote my all time favourite story, human nature/the family of blood🤧
I completely agree with 1st place. Specifically the parting of the ways even though the first part was amazing the finale was truly exceptional even as far as perfect maybe.
10. Boom Town 9. Aliens Of London/World War 3 8. The Unquiet Dead 7. The Long Game 6. The End of the World 5. Rose 4. Bad Wolf/ Parting of the Ways 3. Dalek 2. Empty Child/Doctor Dances 1. Fathers Day Honestly top 3 are pretty much interchangeable to me
A few years ago I decided to check out this Doctor Who thing, so in 2015, I started watching the show on Amazon Prime. Watched Rose, The End of the World and The Unquiet Dead and I was hooked! Two month's later, I ran out of episodes to watch. Yeah, that first new season had some problems, but it is still a season that I could watch again and again, all in a row.
10) The Long Game 9) The End Of The World 8) Father's Day 7) Dalek 6) Boom Town 5) Aliens Of London/World War Three 4) Rose 3) The Unquiet Dead 2) Bad Wolf/The Parting Of The Ways 1) The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
My hot take is that if the Slitheen didn’t fart so much, Aliens of London would be a perfectly fun, silly, satirical two parter. The story is all there Anyway here’s my list: 1. Empty Child/Doctor Dances 2. Fathers Day 3. Dalek 4. Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways 5. Rose 6. Aliens of London/World War Three 7. Unquiet Dead 8. End of the World 9. The Long Game 10. Boom Town
I'm sure I heard RTD say that the farting was hardly in his original script but the director took serious liberties and amped it up, as he did in Rose with the burping bin.

Bad Wolf/Parting of The Ways Just to say though. I love all these episodes as these were the first episodes I ever watched and I’ll always see Eccleston as MY Doctor.
Yeah I agree with your rankings 100%. Series 1 was such a phenomenal return for the show. I was an old fan of the show at the time, so ecstatic that my favourite show was coming back to tv. The buzz we old fans got from all the promos, trailers, stings and advertising leading up to and throughout the series as it aired was just so amazing. Finally, the show that had been ridiculed for years due to bad sfx, campness and poor decisions.... was back. And what a show it was. A Doctor Who for the 21st century that could finally compete with the sci-fi shows from across the pond. To quote the Doctor himself, "Fantastic". And from that moment onwards, I never again felt embarrassed to say my favourite show of all time was Doctor Who.
My personal ranking of series 1 (Which may change a bit when I do my rewatch) 1. Bad Wolf/parting of the ways 18/20 2. The empty child/The Doctor Dances 18/20 3. Dalek 9/10 4. The end of the world 9/10 5. The unquiet dead 8.5/10 6. Father’s Day 8/10 7. Aliens of London/ WW3 17.5/20 8. The long game 7/10 9. Boom town 7/10 10. Rose 7/10 Series total 103/130 Yes I rank two parters as one single story. This is just my personal opinion opinion you may disagree and that is fine. To each their own as they say. Xx
Here is mine: 10. Aliens in London/World War III 9. The Long Game. 8. The Unquiet Dead. 7. Rose. 6. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. 5. Dalek. 4. Boom Town. 3. Father's Day. 2. The End of the World. 1. Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways. The episode that has gone down in my estimation is the Slitheen two-parter, just because the plot doesn't make that much logical sense, as they could have infiltrated the UN to get the nuclear codes surely, unless everyone is just really fit and healthy so there was no one they could slip into! And also the resolution comes too easy as well. The episode I've grown to love more has been the Empty Child two-parter although I've not moved it in the ranking. This is mostly because I think the dance motif, albeit clever, is unnecessary. I'm not pervious and I don't want to know that side of any character's life. But also, as you said, the other episodes are also so good (although I rank Boom Town and The End of the World higher than you). The reason I put Boom Town higher is mainly because I disagree with your main criticism, I don't think the third act undoes what RTD was doing. As I view it Blon was just trying different strategies to achieve her freedom. Its also like how someone might have an addiction and at one point they genuinely want to overcome it, but then they come into contact with it somehow or they have a weak moment then they return to their old selves. The fact Blon does refrain from killing someone and that she does except a chance to start again reveals that she is a more complex character- as we all are. These similar complexities are exhibited in Rose who in a way wants to have her cake and eat it with the Doctor in the TARDIS and Mickey on earth. Yes she runs away in response to a changing circumstance, but then she looks back for Mickey. This reveals an inner conflict in her character too. One which she completely overhauls in the finale, when she unequivocally sacrifices everything to save the Doctor. The main reason I love the End of the World, even with a basic plot, is for its wonderful introduction to travelling in space. The argument with Rose and the Doctor over time travelling is evocative of Barbara and Ian's rows with the Doctor (I love the shots in that scene as the audience can see their faces after a big shout out, but they can't see each others faces). This is also the episode where we find out about the Time War and we SEE the impact it has on him. We see this mostly in how he mercilessly and in bitterness kills Cassandra. This is like how the first Doctor started off dark, cold and selfish (he kidnapped two teachers and nearly killed a caveman just to get back to the Ship, and landed his crew in Dalek trouble when he lied about the need for mercury, and then harshly accused those he had kidnapped!) but then softened as the series went on, until he repels the Cybermen with word and deed in the last gasps of his regeneration. In a similar way, this Doctor is broken and bitter from the time war and in the End of the World we see the damaged Doctor which Rose starts to heal. The key turning point is in Dalek, he sees a different side to the universe at the end of the Doctor Dances, he contemplates mercy in Boom Town and the moment of truth is in his decision not to exterminate all life in the finale. That last scene of the End of the World is sheer beauty with CGI rock coming across the screen as Rose's music swelled, followed by the eerie, beautiful Doctor's theme as he confides in Rose.
Best to Worst: 1. Rose. 2. Dalek. 3. Empty Child/Doctor Dances. 4. Aliens of London/World War Three. 5. Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways. 6. Father’s Day. 7. The Unquiet Dead. 8. Boom Town. 9. The End of the World. 10. The Long Game.
While I completely agree with Long Game's placement, it is overflowing with untapped potential. A money over facts news company, false promises of promotion putting employees against each other and their own ethics for advancement that will never come and biased reporting fed to an uncritical audience. Modern RTD would knock this episode out of the park! I genuinely think if he wrote it in the last few years or would be in the top five of the series (for me anyway.
Hope he makes an indivudual vidoe for every episode of the season ranked for example next vido would be every episode ranked in season 2 then the next is season 3 right up to flux. I really enjoy these vidoes.
I think you really missed here. I think the empty child is #1 and Father's Day is #2. It also seems to be widely agreed upon that the empty child is the best of 9th tenure.
My ranking is quite similar, except I think I'd put 'Rose' higher and 'Father's Day' a tiny bit lower. Beautifully said either way on a season of television that's very special to me. MrTARDIS, bravo. I vividly remember watching Hartnell episodes around 2004 and thinking it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen, then seeing this series in 2005 and being blown away all over again!
If his recent work like 'Years and Years' and 'It's a Sin' are anything to go off of, I think RTD is going to be a lot more mature and darker on his second go as DW showrunner (think his 1996 DW novel 'Damaged Goods' which Big Finish adapted as an audio drama).
Before checking the ranking, Top 5 are a hard one, but if I had to run town the entire season, it'd probably be 10. Long Game 9 Boom Town 8 End of the World 7 Aliens of London 6 Rose 5 Unquiet Dead 4 Dalek 3 Father's Day 2 Empty Child 1 Bad Wolf Honestly last two are almost equally brilliant, but it's the emotional send off of Eccleston that puts the final story just a bit higher
My ranking would be: 1, Bad wolf/The Parting of the Ways 2, The Empty Child/ The Doctor Dances 3, Dalek 4, Farther’s Day 5, Rose 6, Aliens of London/ World War Three 7, Boom Town 8, The End of the World 9, The Unquiet Dead 10, The Long Game
My favourite Series of the New Series is Series 3! So, I can't wait to see your ranking on that! Its my second favourite series of the entire show. My favourite season of all time has to be Season 26.
Solid list! But honestly I've never understood people's love for father's day. I even went back and watched it again to see if I was missing something, and found myself underwhelmed. It's a great concept for sure don't get me wrong, just not executed as well as it could've been. To me it's nowhere near the quality of dalek, the empty child, or even rose. Just me?
I really like Father’s Day, I think it’s a great little story about Rose coming to terms with her father’s death, but would be keen to hear what other people don’t like about it
@Whosader It's an interesting point, I think it's justified enough in the narrative though by a few things, so 1) there's a line of dialogue where the Doctor explains that crossing into established events (like they did at the start of the episode) created a weak point in time, making the wound more likely, 2) it's fairly well established that some things are fixed and some in flux, and that the Doctor as a Timelord can perceive the difference (he has a great speech about this in Fires of Pompeii) and 3) the Doctor does say during the episode, in a very nice bit of writing, that the life or death of an ordinary man can make all the difference in the world, and we are wrong to dismiss the impact that an ordinary person can have on history. So it works for me, and I don't mind if it violates canon a little bit, if it means we can get a great story exploring how some things, like death, are inevitable And yeah, Empty Child is just fantastic, wish Moffat would write like that more often lol!
Okay: I havent watched the Video yet, and Im going to try and guess the Ranking before I watch: 10: The Long Game 9: Boom Town 8: Unquite Dead 7: End of the World 6: Aliens of London/WW3 5: Rose 4: Fathers Day 3: Empty Child/The Doctor Dances 2: Dalek 1: Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways Hopefully I'm Close!
Gods everyone's being merciless on Mr Enter and I'm here for it! Oh and good ranking Trilbee, nice end to the trip. Agree with you on the weakest but Dalek's my favourite of the series, love the survivor's guilt and diving into just how deadly, pathetic, and self-destructive fascism and racism are.
In my opinion, your top four is entirely backwards but other than that, pretty much agree with your ranking. I might move Boomtown up and swap it with The Unquiet Dead but both are pretty good stories with some flaws that don't detract from how enjoyable they are. The whole series is a lot of fun and one of the best since the revival. Side note: in my list all of the top three episodes would be those not written by RTD.
I'd say S1 is the only season of DW to have no crap episodes. The long game is weak yes. But it's not bad like say Orphan 55 Fear Her the doctors daughter daleks in manthatan curse of the black spot ect
Our Doctor and his MOTHER (Jackie) & SISTER (Rose/Romana) season 1 of 2 + Turn Left-Journeys end arc. If you think I am wrong. I am not. And I can back it up. Can you? Its even in the opening credits/ and episode titles. (how the TARDIS jumps between Whoniversis and thus our Doctor gets born by futurepast events in the whoniverse that spawned the classic Whoniverse into existance just as the classic Whonioverse spawned the new Whoniverse. FLUX was dealing with the end of the classic WHoniverse as it is collapsing blinking out of existance = we for the 6th...yes 6th time see/hear/"deal" with the end of the classic WHoniverse in the show since episode Rose. Its Doomsday. Where the last events lead to the birth of our Doctor in the previous WHoniverse that then spawned the classic WHoniverse with our Doctor being on the planet that became Monadas as it was stolen from that whoniverse and taken over into the classic Whoniverse and the Mondasians that Rassilon and her (Yes Rassilon was female as his time as being the Doctor for the WHoniverse Rose and Jackie ended up in) young Toni Tyler became (unknowingly the next (our) Doctor just as Clara unknowlingly became the next new Doctor for the new Whoniverse (CAL is the "real" (knowingly) first new Doctor (the raven save of Clara) later "released as RIVERS was completed the new timemachine that have everybody live... as our Earth now inside the new WHoniverse after being stolen and taken into the new WHoniverse in Journeys End. = Our Earth falls to the Daleks and becomes New Skaro. (inside the new WHoniverse and we our ppl are saved by RIVERS and we become rulers over time on the former burnt Gallifrey.
Ahh I have a very unpopular ranking of series one, I think it’s almost always great and there’s not really a bad episode 1.The Empty Child (10/10) 2.Dalek (9.5/10) (probs personal favourite) 3.The Doctor Dances (9.5/10) 4.Fathers day (9/10) 5.Bad Wolf (9/10) 6.Aliens of London (7.5/10) 7.End of the world (7/10) 8.Unquiet dead (7/10) 9.Rose (6.5/10) 10. World War Three (6/10) 11.The Long Game (5/10) 12.Boomtown (5/10) 13.The Christmas invasion (5/10) Idk if someone disagrees with me I’ll debate it for sure lol
I personally find this the most overrated series of the revival along with series 4. My ranking would have to be: 1. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances (10/10): Wonderfully creepy with great character beats and a wonderful conclusion. 2. Dalek (10/10): Another brilliant story, although I think Jubilee is probably stronger. 3. Father’s Day (8/10): Lots of good ideas but never got the hype for it. 4. Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways (6/10): I really can’t warm to part one but the conclusion of 9’s arc is good and Bad Wolf is probably the least egregious solution to a Davies finale, even if it is self-indulgent. 5. Rose (6/10): Again, nice character work but the plot is a bit thin (the novelisation does a much better job with the Autons). Just a shame that this type of story became way too common in this era, it feels like the Third Doctor’s run sometimes (solid but extremely repetitive). 6. Boom Town (5/10): Lots of great interactions but the final act kills it. 7. The Long Game (5/10): Nowhere near a classic but I love the debate around the truth and the way media functions. 8. The End of the World (4/10): Never really cared for it but it’s far from the worst thing Davies wrote during his era. 9. The Unquiet Dead (4/10): It just sort of exists, not really got much to say about it. 10. Aliens of London/World War Three (1/10): Genuinely cannot stand it, and this is coming from an ardent Hell Bent apologist. Overall a very uneven series for me, probably in the lower half of the revival, but there are two standout stories.
Can anyone recommend any more Doctor Who channels? Mr Tardis is the only Doctor Who channel I watch but I need more and I don't want to accidentally follow a weird right wing meat head 😅
Check out the guests I've had on my livestreams in the past! I recommend channels like; Adam Martyn WhoChaser Philip Hawkins CrispeePro Who Knew? A Doctor Who Podcast The Main Protagonist (Ivy) Review of Death DAVIS ... Those are off the top of my head, but there's loads more. Like I said, check out my livestream guests!
I would love if this would become a series and you do it for every season
I feel like that's the plan. I would love if at the endo of each added video, maybe he'd do an overall, updated ranking of all the stories/episodes. I also hope these rankings are sprinkled out before Russell T Davies' era begins, but completely understand how time-consuming it would be.

Bad wolf and the parting of the ways are the two episodes that made me the massive Doctor Who fan that I am today
The top 4 are incredible and if you lined them up as 6 episodes you could honestly binge it in order as an unbroken streak of great episodes
After watching your channel for many years, I knew what your number 1 pick was before the video started and you know what, I wholeheartedly agree 🙂👍

Oh yeah, haven’t even finished the video and I’m already hyped for the rest of the series rankings!
can you do a ranking for all the other series as well in terms of episodes please mr tardis
I think Bad wolf and the parting of the ways are the best, but Dalek is fantastic. A few others haven't aged well but I still have fun with them
Yeah I agree with your rankings 100%.
Excellent ranking
OH GOD, you just had to jumpscare tf out of me with the empty child line. That episode fucked me up as a kid and I love it
Now with me, its: 4. Father Day. 3. Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways 2. Empty Child/Doctor Dances. 1. Dalek.
My personal ranking of series 1
(Which may change a bit when I do my rewatch)
1. Bad Wolf/parting of the ways 18/20
2. The empty child/The Doctor Dances 18/20
3. Dalek 9/10
4. The end of the world 9/10
5. The unquiet dead 8.5/10
6. Father’s Day 8/10
7. Aliens of London/ WW3 17.5/20
8. The long game 7/10
9. Boom town 7/10
10. Rose 7/10
Series total 103/130
Yes I rank two parters as one single story. This is just my personal opinion opinion you may disagree and that is fine. To each their own as they say. Xx
Surprised at how much I agree with this ranking.
God I loved that first series faults and all.
Here is mine: 10. Aliens in London/World War III
Great ranking, I agree with a fair amount of it. Are you planning on ranking Series 2 too?
Best to Worst:
1. Rose.
2. Dalek.
3. Empty Child/Doctor Dances.
4. Aliens of London/World War Three.
5. Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways.
6. Father’s Day.
7. The Unquiet Dead.
8. Boom Town.
9. The End of the World.
10. The Long Game.
Series 1 is so perfect 👌 perfect intro, full range of quality stories, perfect ending and intro to regeneration 😘👌
You should honestly do a video about what you would do to improve series 2 as that was Rose's last season and her character went evne FURTHER downhill
I would chuck it in a bin and start over from scratch.
I rlly hope you do this with the classic series but with every season
I'd definitely like to. Maybe with just the episodes that have been released on the Collection Blu-Rays.
@@MrTARDIS can’t wait
@@twosecondsago2265 He's already ranked Season 14, which I strongly recommend you check out.
Series 1 doesn't have a bad episode.
Before checking the ranking,
Top 5 are a hard one, but if I had to run town the entire season, it'd probably be
10. Long Game
9 Boom Town
8 End of the World
7 Aliens of London
6 Rose
5 Unquiet Dead
4 Dalek
3 Father's Day
2 Empty Child
1 Bad Wolf
Honestly last two are almost equally brilliant, but it's the emotional send off of Eccleston that puts the final story just a bit higher
Bad Wolf is my favourite episode of all time so I am OVERJOYED that you put it as number 1
My ranking would be:
1, Bad wolf/The Parting of the Ways
2, The Empty Child/ The Doctor Dances
3, Dalek
4, Farther’s Day
5, Rose
6, Aliens of London/ World War Three
7, Boom Town
8, The End of the World
9, The Unquiet Dead
10, The Long Game
My favourite Series of the New Series is Series 3! So, I can't wait to see your ranking on that!
Its my second favourite series of the entire show. My favourite season of all time has to be Season 26.
4:42 "Doctor Who responding to 9/11, Mr. Enter would be proud."
I spat out my drink at that line.
Just me?
No. Cannot stand either this or Dalek to be honest.
I really like Father’s Day, I think it’s a great little story about Rose coming to terms with her father’s death, but would be keen to hear what other people don’t like about it
@@bubblewrapmonster8801 to be honest, pretty much everything
So it works for me, and I don't mind if it violates canon a little bit, if it means we can get a great story exploring how some things, like death, are inevitable
And yeah, Empty Child is just fantastic, wish Moffat would write like that more often lol!
Rose ( episode 1) is probably my favorite for nestolgic reasons
Okay: I havent watched the Video yet, and Im going to try and guess the Ranking before I watch:
10: The Long Game
9: Boom Town
8: Unquite Dead
7: End of the World
6: Aliens of London/WW3
5: Rose
4: Fathers Day
3: Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
2: Dalek
1: Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways
Hopefully I'm Close!
Okay I was close with some! lol
MAKE THIS A SERIES!
Great list! Mine would probably be quite similar.
You put Bombtown over Aliens of London/world war 3??????? That, a long term viewer of MrTARDIS… took me by surprised!
it may not be a common opinion but in my eyes series 1 is one of if not the best dr who series of all of new who
and once again RTD returns to save DR Who.
Funny enough a few weeks ago I made the same type of video for series one.
Jeee dude, nice going enjoy ur hunny moon man!!
personally i think rose is too low and unquiet dead is way too high (i’d probably even put it bottom)
I'd say S1 is the only season of DW to have no crap episodes. The long game is weak yes. But it's not bad like say Orphan 55 Fear Her the doctors daughter daleks in manthatan curse of the black spot ect
Haven't you done this before?
16:00 I never read any of the dancing stuff as sexual
The best series, the best doctor
i disagree i think all of these episodes are perfect
Even the Long Game?

Ahh I have a very unpopular ranking of series one, I think it’s almost always great and there’s not really a bad episode
1.The Empty Child (10/10)
2.Dalek (9.5/10) (probs personal favourite)
3.The Doctor Dances (9.5/10)
4.Fathers day (9/10)
5.Bad Wolf (9/10)
6.Aliens of London (7.5/10)
7.End of the world (7/10)
8.Unquiet dead (7/10)
9.Rose (6.5/10)
10. World War Three (6/10)
11.The Long Game (5/10)
12.Boomtown (5/10)
13.The Christmas invasion (5/10)
Idk if someone disagrees with me I’ll debate it for sure lol
i feel like i’m way too early to this
This is gonna be an Unpopular opinion but i think Father's Day is overrated. Its good but everyone treats it like its the second coming of christ.
I personally find this the most overrated series of the revival along with series 4. My ranking would have to be:
