      Also nice that it was preserved by the generations that followed.

    fascinating info! i want to get back into learning piano after doing lessons for around 2 years. I had a great teacher and developed quickly but got expensive and completely stopped. I came here from your website and have found your free resources really helpful and interesting and helping me bridge the gap not having a teacher anymore, thanks alot man! Subbed 💯

    In addition, secular music also contained dance music, some courtly, others peasant and commoner class. Also at least 2 full scale musical dramas, Play of Daniel and Play of Herod. Great job on filling in details on this important period of music

    2:25 it's not that medieval music is latin/sung in church. that's just the music we have from the time period that was written down. whatever was being played in shithole towns or the ubiquitous pagan regions during most of medieval europe wasn't much recorded. it is referred to sometimes by later artists though, many composers in the baroque period named their pieces in way that reference older musical themes.

      Where can we find examples of the music played in the streets and shitholes? That's what I'd like to hear.

    Medieval Music :
    When it started :
    Started around 500ad and lasted to around 1500ad Started when the west wall of Rome collapsed
    What is Medieval Music?
    It is monophonic it's in Latin and sounds like a gorgerain chant it has 8 modes
    3 types of Organum -polyphonic- parrel organic meaning they move together staying at a fixed distance as such parrel
    Free organum meaning the can freely change their note
    Melismatic organism one part is fixed on the same note while the other can freely move

    Based on your opinion and knowledge, what would you think would happen if a modern band got time traveled to medieval times and tried to make a living there playing modern music. Would they be hunted and labeled heathens? Would the music be any good to the people of that era? Or would they be able to make an impact and change how music is perceived? I often have this imaginary fantasy when I listen to music I really like. Its similar to why reaction channels are so popular. To see the reactions of awe or perhaps disgust on the people who experience things for the first time. So you can experience the same feeling you had, through them, vicariously.

    8 modes? I think they are 7 only( ionian,dorian,phrygian,lydian, and mixolydian, aeolian and Locrian) did I miss something?

    • @adamjacksonmedia
      @adamjacksonmedia 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So you're referring to the 7 modes of the modern Diatonic scale.
      This is different to the 8 medieval modes.

      @dr.zither 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, the dulcimer is the contemporary successor to the praetorius scheitholt, which is a medieval instrument.
