    There's a secondary reason why thieves leave fliers at doors, so they can check back a day or 2 later and see if it's still there. It's an indicator if they're out of town for business or pleasure. I had a neighbor once who asked me to pick up any fliers at their door or packages because they'd be out of town for a couple of weeks for that reason.

    Way too many people are complaining that this video is teaching criminals how to rob. They don't seem to realize that it's also warning a lot more potential victims.

    • @codemiesterbeats
      @codemiesterbeats 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Exactly. This is just notifying the public at large at what to look for... if more people know how these things are accomplished it can prevent it from working all together because these things only work if one party is unaware that the method exists. That being said the tennis ball one is bogus.

      You dirty mind

    • @abbeykroeter
      @abbeykroeter 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's because they're not thinking in the pleasant order you wrote it. They see that is possibly preparing and helping potential victims, but it is ALSO inspiring up and coming criminals and giving some of the lesser skilled ones confidence and material to use.
      It is a mixed bag, I agree, but it would be nice if somehow we could keep criminals out of when information is given to people without a record.
      Of course that could be seen as profiling, and nothing's perfect.
      I don't criticize those who have the concern about criminals being inspired by this though-- it's both. The internet isn't 51% or more "good" just because we can see it that way. It's caused WAY more problems than anyone predicted or any hipster would admit.

    A long while ago when my family installed our first alarm system, we had bought it off of amazon. And from the box it seemed like a good system from the looks of it. My mom noticed something a little off about the system though. There was one night when we had a dinner party late at night, and then we heard the system notifying us. It beeps whenever someone presses a button. It said on the screen, "System already unarmed." That only pops up if you unlock it when it already is. No one touched the thing. My mom told me to sit at the window and look out partially closed blinds for anything. Sure enough, a guy drove by, stopped in front of the house, saw that lights were on becasue of guests, and quickly left. The guy who gave us our alarm system had programmed the system to where he could disarm it from the outside, and then packaged it to look like it was brand new. Be careful with what you buy online people.

    • @I25mI25
      @I25mI25 7 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      That's why you don't buy important (electronic/non-electronic) devices from untrusted sources. Especially if you can't completely reset them(switch wireless signals, completely format hard drives and reinstall the os, ...). Go to a professional company if you want to buy security devices (and verify their identity if you buy online).

    • @pennypearls5030

      A similar thing can be done with older Amazon Echos. You can pop off the bottom and with a bit of tinkering you can get it into debug mode. After that, you can program the always on microphone to send files to your computer and listen to any conversation held in it's vicinity. Always check your electronics for tampering.

      I have locksmithed for 12yrs. I call major BS on the tennis ball. Even on older cars it is mechanically linked. You need a key to turn the tumbler to move linkage. Air pressure has NO bearing on it. The new ones, no chance. I have offered people cash to unlock MY car, or someone I know, using a tennis ball. Still have my money!

    I will give you one that happens alot because you never expect it. It's someone you know, they only come around when you don't really expect it and are very helpful or in some kind of bind and they dont ask you for anything but ask if you know anybody with a cheap car to buy or some side work or something like that. Meanwhile, they disarm you with charm an appearancee of honesty, sincerity and emphasis on helpfulness. and usually some story to make you feel sorry for them a little (something in which you can relate). Through a long conversation (like it's been a long time what have you been up to...then they listen for useful info.) they will find out who lives in the house with you and when everyone is at work or school. They make you so comfortable and stay long enough (they dont take a subtle hint) whereas you need to leave the room a minute for any reason. They will take that opportunity to sneak a window lock open somewhere in the house. Sometimes they need to use your bathroom if they don't see a vulnerability they can access unnoticed. They return and then they are soon ready to leave. Everything seems fine. Later you keep finding things missing. Not big things but valuable things (and even not so valuable things) like a piece of fine jewelry missing from a jewelry case or a favorite tool, etc. It is the kind of robbery where your not sure if you misplaced it, where it could have gone; the kind of things you really only notice when you need to use it. Were you robbed? You aren't even sure because the obvious robbery items are still there (the things you use daily). This friend may return a few times in the next month or two. During this time they drop over and help you if you happen to be doing some kind of house repair or car repair or whatever. they are scoping you out, how you act to see if your suspicous, if you act differently toward them in the least. If not, they will hit your house again for a bigger haul. If anyone sees them, they are your friend, and they are. Periodically, you won't see them for a long time, months maybe even a year or more. When they do return, the cycle begins again. Because you grew up with this guy, he would never do you that way. Depending on how unaware you are, he could be scoping out your child and wife and you might think he just likes kids and is being kind. You may even trust him alone with your family. Have you ever come home and found him with your family claiming he came to see you? These kind are predators the worst kind because they are slick, shifty and what they do comes naturally. They can look you in the eye and know what you need to hear to ease your mind and maintain your trust.
    Sadly there's a psychopath hiding in almost everyone's circle of friends. You will defend that friend because you think you know the real him but in reality you know the mask he wears. Remember the bundy story? So many of his friends just couldn't believe what Bundy turned out to truly be that they earnestly helped him fight the charges.

      Samuel B And just WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU? I love how everybody and their grandmother has something to say about recidivism (doubt you even know what that means "I dont know what it is but I'm agin it") but also have so much to say about where ex-cons should go and what they shouldnt do! You "break a law", you get arrested. Your face has been plastered on the news, social media, and newspapers both on line AND in print along with any scrap of "evidence"-- whether admissable or not being announced to the world youre guilty before you booked into County. Whether or not you did it is neither here nor there. So you're found guilty. Every crime can be charged a minimum of three ways, forcing you to either take a plea or run the gauntlet and get the max penalty for all three charges--all for the exact same act. Regardless of the 6th ammendment. Your sentence is a certain amount of time. THATS THE PUNISHMENT! THATS IT!!N Except that its NOT. Because self righteous little douchenozzles such as yourself dont want criminals working with them. Or living in their building. Or even on their block. That$100 gate fee was spent on a room for the night. Or if family meets the RIDICULOUS criteria chances are nothing they wore when they went in fits. Chances are slim to fucking none their belongimgs are still around anyways. In winter that $100 buys a moderately warm coat. Not much else. So they cant work anywhere. Cant Live anywhere. Cant drive around looking for a job because tgeir license is long gone. And, contrary to what society must think, committing a crime doesn't stop you from needing to eat. But with a huge gap in employment history, no license, a box to check for a conviction on the application, and no address who is hiring? And even if you get a job parole conditions say you need a place THEY APPROVE OF based on a criteria consisting of pretty much nothing but if your PO was in a good mood that day. And mind you they can change their mind on a whim. So, hungry, cold, dirty clothes, and no prospects. And your kid asking why theres no supper. Any man worth anything is gonna do SOMETHING. Unfortunately given the attitude of privileged little twits like you--90% of the time the options are steal somethin or slang some dope. Either way strike two never far away. And life without parole is a real possibility. Because the punishment in fact NEVER fits the crime. Oh, and one more thing-- you never really get to make this reality well known. Because you can't vote. So there wont be a change. Itll just go on forever. And just so you know this too--and im sure by now you can tell i know whats what- even though im not a felon. If you have a brother, or cousin, or sister or mom or dad or a friend so close u forget they AREN'T really your family-- the REST of us go in with them. And sit that time too, we just on opposit sides of stone walls. And that third strike you think is SOOO goddam funny. It REALLY ISNT. Because my brothers gonna be doin life now too. And didnt even hurt anyone. So I'll never walk free again either. I hope you or your sibling or even better your KID gets caught up. Then give it ten years after they first bid and hit me up. Let me know how funny it is when YOU wont never again in this life walk this earth free from them gates.
      Judge NOT. Lest ye be judged first...

      Oooorrr , you could put the wealthy or safe symbol on your house and when they break in, cut them in have with a 12 gauge loaded with some high brass heavy bird shot for geese or buck shot. Personally, I don't think buck shot has enough lead balls in each shell. Still very deadly though. I would think the more lead balls or b b's, the more damage. But they make several different kinds of personal defense loads now. I personally think STRUNG buck shot would do the trick. Could you imagine the damage that two lead balls strung together by a wire would do ? Flying at a high rate of speed like bolos ? They manufacture these you know. Google to look for this ammo for shotguns. You will be amazed at the different kinds of defensive ammo out there. Happy "hunting". And I feel sorry for you piss ant burglars. Lol.

      Shadow Star Seriously, where do you live that you can't shoot an intruder? Georgia police will actually tell you if someone breaks in your house shoot their ass dead. A year or so ago I got a call to pick up a car by the police. I get to the house and it turns out the owner of the car was high as shit trying to force his way into an elderly man's house. He put 3 in his ass right at the door after the guy said 'You don't have the balls to shoot me, that gun ain't loaded.' The Sergeant actually told the homeowner be wished more people would handle home invasion threats the same way he did.

    A tennis ball not only opens the car door, but when the same process is applied to the ignition it will actually start the car. This is because all key holes have tubes that connect the parts and work off air pressure, rather than rods or electronics. Oh why didn't car manufactures think this through better?!?!

      I don't think it would work at all.... aren't tennis balls somewhat hard, and full of a hard rubber ball wrapped in rubberbands? I could be wrong. If so, I don't think I could squeeze it hard enough to push that much air out of it. It would be good to know in case I lock myself out.

    • @colleenchance3073
      @colleenchance3073 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      I was a locksmith for 5 years. I can tell you conclusively that the tennis ball thing cant work. That video that made its way around was likely made with someone off camera operating a remote. For one thing, the wafers would have to be moved up and down, not in towards the inside of a car. For another, locks are so full of holes that even if the air pressure could move the wafers in the right direction, it would never generate enough pressure to actually move them. Third, if it could, even if it just so happened to get all the wafers in the right places, you would still need to add torque to engage the rods attached to the lock. Just like putting a key in without turning it does not unlock cars, moving the wafers into place without physically turning the lock would do nothing. Not to mention the fact that each wafer has to be pushed to a different "height." Just pushing them up all the way wont do it which is why your key is jagged and why simply jamming putty or something into the lock does not do anything. If you google how locks work, you will see what I mean

    I lived in apartment once and had money and other items stolen by a burgular twice. I determined that the person was coming in through a balcony window. So I put a bed of nails in front of the window. I screwed all the other windows shut. One day I came home and saw allot of blood. Then a city detective told me I cant booby trap my property. I told him I didn't booby trap my apartment but there was a bed of nails in front of a window and I found blood one day. I asked him did he know who had damaged them selves on my bed of nails and ge left without saying a word.

      I think you will find that police are concerned for fire fighters and them selves entering a home and thus they will discourage it. I.e. cops enters to catch criminal and ends up getting injured by your booby trap. They would not be pleased

    • @ps2hacker
      @ps2hacker 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Why not? What if the POLICE want to break into your home and rob you? It's the same reasoning behind gun control. In America the police are allowed to take anything they want from anyone they want, for profit. They are also allowed to lie to us, and think that applies to their probable cause as well. Needless to say, that's what they do. It's not your home, or your property, it's THEIRS and they can come to claim it any time they want and there is nothing you can do about it. That's why not. So if you do booby trap your home, keep those cops in mind, and make your trap look like an accident.
      And here is something in that story I'd like to point out: your house got broken into, and you were robbed, twice. The cops obviously have the suspect in custody, dead to rights. Yet they didn't arrest that person, but instead came and threatened you for doing something about it yourself. Your tax money hard at work. The thief is a total lowlife, a bottom feeder. As such, they are probably an informant working for the police, who will pretty much let that person do whatever they want to keep them spying for them. Isn't that nice? They are never going to care what their informant is stealing or from whom, as long as that informant gives them inside info on the people the police want to rob.

    WAIT HOLD ON A FUCKING SECOND I THINK NUMBER 5 NEARLY HAPPENED TO ME.
    my dad was out for like a hour and it was just me and my younger sister home. A man in like a plumber uniform with a high vis jacket came round. We have a big gate which is confusing to open from the other side unless you have done it before so he had to ring the doorbell. I answered and I guess me being a 14 year old girl at the time seemed like a easy target. He asked if our taps were running because he was doing work on our neighbours house and it might have stopped the water pressure. He probably thought that I would turn around and leave the door open to check and that would give him the chance to enter but my sister poked her head round the door and said that she would check. The man was silent and was looking at our house. My sister came back and said it was all working and he stayed quiet for a bit then said thanks for our time and walked away. We couldn't see his car so we didn't know if he really was with a company or whatever. We later found out that our neighbours were on holiday and that there was no one at theirs. No plumbers or whatever. My dad also told us that even if they were doing work on their house it wouldn't effect ours. We never saw him again.
    Maybe he really was innocent and was doing his job or maybe he was trying to start shit

      Again, trust me, we know. Now, almost all of us get into theft beaucuse of a drug addict ion. Addicts hang out with addicts. Expierienced addicts have methods and will teach then to the younger ones (helpful bc then we can invite them to hit a lick with us and we'll wait the earnings, and while we normally follow thru and give the kid what we owe em, they're always do eager too prove themselves to the big boys, we can get them to do all the dirty work, do it's eventually just walking in a d taking what we like). Plus, this video doesny really give the much needed nuances and backround knowledge needed to avoid getting caught, finding valuables, choosing houses correctly, or any alt methods. Way more goes into any burglary or scam then what's shown here. Again, we all know about this shit. This video is only gunna help people protect the shit better, and any noob stupid enough to do this shit using only the methods shown here and throwing all the other shit out the window, they're gunna get caught, and that's a promise.

    Three words: Spirit. Halloween. Props. Buy yourself some motion-activated animatronics from Spirit Halloween, set them up beside the entrances of your living spaces, turn them on, and watch the fun. Thieves are smart, but they're incredibly high-strung. They have to react quickly to the slightest noise or movement that could indicate someone's caught them, and they bolt at the first sign that they've been caught. So you can imagine how they react when out of nowhere a screaming, lunging animatronic leaps out and they kill themselves scrambling out of your home.

    "Knock knock robbers" - really? Some of us have real issues at our doors.
    Like Jehovah's Witnesses.

      You know how to get them to leave you alone... wait till they leave a flyer and call them up...tell them that they left the flyer in your door and the door must have not shut all the way... tell them a gust of wind blew your screen door off the hinges... when they comment say "I just wanna know who is gonna replace my door" they will most likely never try knocking again... or so I have heard lol

      You have no idea what situation my household is in. They know everyone by name. They enquire for my family to meet them at the door, only to present a video, and come back every week to give us the next story. They even have a 7 year old child which wholeheartedly believes what their parent's drilled into them, who does all of this them self. You can't say no to Oliver! The cheeky sod. Also, they don't have flyers... and I'm stupid. That's a joke on the video, isn't it :D

      No, but you might end up with a new water main. Those aren't secret criminal codes, they're markings used by utility repair workers!
