  • An update video guide of how to compare a Schindler 3300 with Schindler 5500 elevator. Includes some of the known general facts discovered so far.
Clue 1: Directional arrow and LED font
In 3300, the arrow doesn't show up when the car is moving, it will show up when the car has stopped. The LED is thin. Also, the number quickly changes just as the car starts up.
In 5500, the arrow shows up everytime the car is moving, and will disappear a few seconds after it stops. Bolder LED, and the number doesn't change once the elevator starts.
    Clue 2: Door motion sound
3300 elevators don't have distinctive door motion because they use Fermator and sometimes Sematic door operators. 5500 elevators have distinctive door motion sound because they use Wittur door operators.
Clue 3: Car station height, and is it flush or surface mounted?
3300 elevators have surface mounted and partial height car station, while 5500 elevators have flushed and full height panel.
    Clue 4: Button illuminations
The buttona on 3300 elevators don't stay illuminate in white when not pressed, unlike 5500.
    Clue 5: Hoisting machine
    See video for detailed look.
Clue 6: MRL control box size and position
3300 control box is thin and integrated with the door frame. 5500 control box is larger and installed next to the landing door (just like 300P and 5400 AP MRL)
NOTE: Sometimes there are also some 5500s without white illuminating buttons and have thin LEDs. To confirm that they are really 5500, simply take a look whether the panel is flushed or not, listen to the door motion sound and look out for the arrow logic.
*Disclaimer: All of these comparisons are based on my obvervation so far, and some of them might be inaccurate so apologize if you find any of these incorrect.

I also have to say thank you for this comparison video. I was hesitant about publishing 3300/5500 videos because I have difficulty telling the two apart previously.

However, 3300 AP have similar logic with 5400 AP and 5500 have similar logic with 300P (Arrow appear when lift starts).

In Europe, 5500 control box is larger and installed next to the landing door (just like EuroLift, 2400, 2500, 2600 and 5400 MRL).

Also few more differences between both
The 5500 fixtures are white when not pressed and red when activated
The 3300 does not do predoors while the 5500 do

For Clue 1: 5500 elevators don't always use the bolder LED (Linea). Some use FIGS indicators, with less bold indicators.
    Also, I've seen a 3300 using Linea 100 fixtures.

As an installer of both these products here's the easiest way to tell them apart, look at the capacity or the amount of floors the elevator services. 3300s are low rise 3000lbs capacity, 5500s are mid rise 5000lb capacity. The 5500 can be outfitted with a variety of COPs and cab sizes so those aren't the best ways of determining what kind you're in.

stupid question but this goes for all including USA.? if so this helps out a LOT especially where these types are uncommon, like in my region ( NY/NJ/CT/PA, specifically LI NY )

8:41 In my apartment, sometimes the elevator fixers try to remove the wall (thin wall blocked the sight of the control panel)

The 3300 indicator number chracters (at least the font) are 90% identical to one that Schindler, Minnesota Elevator and other smaller companies use on various cheap to average indicators, but this time it's behind a glass panel and it doesn't feature the arrow. The weird thing is, 3300 in the Americas have segment displays and the arrow sometimes appear when the car is moving. Weird.

I know of some 5500s that don’t have the arrow while it’s moving

One other thing is the voice. On 3300s the floor message is only played. And the 5500 plays all types of messages.

No thats not always true, I have been in a 3300 that says all the messages.

    4:49 door lotion sound

Can't always compare using the door sound. The 5500 in Puri Indah Mall Jakarta uses a different type of Sematic doors that don't make noise.
Also that lift has no logic cabinet on top floor (if I'm not mistaken). Makes me think if the 5500 is also bottom drive and the logic placed near the motor (since it used to be an LG bottom drive lift)

The 5500s at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 4 also don't have noises on their doors, based on vief86mo's video. Probably using the same type of Sematic doors as the one in Puri Indah Mall.
I think the control cabinet of the Puri Indah Mall 5500 lift is placed in the bottom floor but the lift is still top drive, like the bigger lift at La Maison Barito Jakarta (in this case, the control cabinet is placed on intermediate floor which is quite unusual).

    I might do a Schindler 2400-2600 and 5500 comparison.

    1.
Schindler 3300: Arrow only shows when elevator brakes, it doesn't show up when car is moving. Thin LED font.
Schindler 5500: Arrow shows up when elevator is moving and disappears a few second after the elevator stops.
    2.
Schindler 3300: no door motion sound
Schindler 5500: door motion sound heard
    3.

Schindler 5500: Panel is flushed to the wall. Flush mounted and full height.
    4.
Schindler 3300: Buttons don't light up when not pressed.
Schindler 5500: Buttons light up white when not pressed.

Your missing a clue. Clue 7. The chimes. 3300 more longer and 5500 is shorter. But 3300 can have the short chime along with its original chime whereas 5500 doesn’t use the long chime. I did research over the night

I recently stayed at a Springhill suites in Virginia and I think mine was either 3300 or 5500. I did learn that 5500s can have the same time as the 3300s.
