    What a bunch of amazing finds!
    The coin at 8:30 indeed looks like a Domitian, a dupondius of him, most likely, and by the wear it must have circulated for well over a century!

    With the small pasture areas I used to put two string lines down starting at the side and working across this slows the detecting speed down but multiplies the number of finds. This way you can cover a field fairly well , with overlapping swings. Two marker pegs can be left in the field ready for the next return trip. Some lovely finds there Alexander

    The odd shaped lump of lead might be what is called in the building trade a plumb bob, that swung on a piece of string in the center of a plum rule, a piece of board, straight and true, about four inches wide and usually four to six feet long used by masons or carpenters to plumb walls or upright timbers or forms, sometimes naughtily referred to in the trade as a swinging diddy. Really enjoy every episode and that spade of yours is a real beaut.

    Hey that's lovely Alex, and great effort as ever with the film-making!! 🙏 Like you, I loved that little dark Constantinus - the detail and artistry is breathtaking hey? I had a fairly decent dig on Sat, (inc. 2 little silvers and 2 spindle whorls!) and, oddly enuff, I too found a "socking big" lead weight! 🥸😅 My one is slightly smaller, but a perfect smooth egg-size/shape. It has the snapped-off iron core, so likely another Roman (or medieval) steelyard weight. I just need some of their coinage now, and I'll be a bit happer!!... 😅😅 Anyways, thanks again for Fab content, and it's great to see you're about to hit a well-deserved 5K Subscribers!! Bobby 🦊

      Nearly there Bobby Ch***t its a slog though!!!! I am rather jealous of those channels that through no real effort or creativity, go stratospheric!!! Anyway its a very simple algorithm the TH-cam one... if your stuff is good enough and people like it you will succeed and if its not you won't ...so we cant complain as it is all in our hands!!! Well done on your last dig - good work!

    • @UkuleleBobbyKemp
      @UkuleleBobbyKemp ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HolzHammerSagas Yes mate, it's a tough one with TH-cam innit? I genuinely think (with detecting channels), that the 'audience demographic' will respond to higher production values. Certain things are a definite *turn-off* particularly those awful 'head-mounted' GoPro cameras. 1 or 2 off the guys have that as main camera, and I just feel 'car sick' watching!! 🤢😅 I think your channel is starting to grow a bit faster now isn't it? - I'm sure the hard work will start to pay off eventually Alex... 🙏

    Once again thank you very much for taking the time to make this fascinating videos Alex. Two things...
    ONE: I have always been frustrated on pasture, finds are usually too deep so I have been watching you with some frustration. As I said the other day, I went out to have another go on pasture using same coil and your simple settings. I checked every signal against the programme I usually use (Gary Blackwell's Sonar prog) and frustratingly the sonar prog was better every damn time! I am fully aware of how important it is to always dig those whispery signals but I simply can't replicate your success on pasture. So... I don't think you will do this Alex and I wouldn't blame you one iota if you don't but a short vid on pasture detecting, signals, sounds, depths would be very interesting.
    TWO: Jettons. I sometimes wonder if these are a bit 'Emperor's new clothes' when we read "they are counters". I think; they didn't have to produce actual metal 'coins' they could have used coins or even buttons but counters??? Do we really know for sure that they were used for counters or are we just passing on what we have read/heard?
    Thanks again Alex

    • @HolzHammerSagas
      @HolzHammerSagas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I cant use the sonar programme as it is meant to be fully, as I don't have a remote to fix the settings... but it might well be better - as i said I am just so used to reading what I have had to work with ... sorry it was no good - and yes - I will do a pasture video - it will be fun - thank you for the idea; i will start thinking of a good structure for it!

    • @HolzHammerSagas
      @HolzHammerSagas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know what you mean about the jettons... do you think they were more important than just counters or less so - one thing is certain; I have found far many more hammered coins than I have jettons from the sane age... 🤔 Wg=hat are you thoughts on their use? Some can be particularly lovely... Hope all well Colin and thanks for watching!

    • @colinsmale8146
      @colinsmale8146 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think my ratio must be around 30 hammered for one jetton. As you say, some of them are really handsome which is another reason I can't see them simply as counters but I have always asked myself "what else could they have been used for" and I haven't come up with an answer yet. Best wishes and pleased to see you are on the mend now.

    yep, that's a saxon one ! Stützarmfibeln are super rare in my area and in Denmark but common in the Saxon South
    never found one of them (...shot a complete early "ligearmet fibel" of a rare subclass during my easter hunt tho....)
    and looks indeed like a razor 😂 maybe display the brooch openly with a modern razor innocently placed next to it (maybe painted in gold and with some zick-zack lines) - the handsome common Saxon, clean shaven since the beginning 👌

    I would like to learn more about how to negotiate with the land owner. I think that's an overlooked topic worth sharing.
    I'm a fan of the jewelry, but the tools are probably more historically interesting. The lump of lead is an amazing find, I would like to learn more of what it was used for.
    If I were to detect behind you, I would be digging a few of the iron signals out of curiosity.
    Gold
    I watched a live stream yesterday, Treasure Outdoors, find a gold earring on the beach. The TID/VID was '1' in the sand. When he reexamined it laying on the surface the detector didn't sense it, very strange. It even went negative into the iron tone when air testing.
    The detector couldn't sense the 10k earring on the surface.

      Hi PBR hope all well - its all good and well digging the iron signals though you may find your good find to rusty nail and bits of old horshoe ratio a bit off-putting and after a while, and 100s of holes later, you may find it better to avoid it! I don't know that chap's detector but the one i use wouldn't mistake gold for iron... though interestingly gold often gives a very low tone closer to the iron range than silver gives , say. Anyway, thank you very much for watching - All the Best, Alexander

      Thanks for watching Jay... to get the depth yo reallly have to be millimetres off the ground... wheat stubble is really hard I always struggle with it so I always do it but don't get my hopes up too high you are really relying on things close to the surface and not really even worth thinking about anything deeper - less stressful that way and means every half decent find a bonus so stick with it!!!
