Once again thank you very much for taking the time to make this fascinating videos Alex. Two things... ONE: I have always been frustrated on pasture, finds are usually too deep so I have been watching you with some frustration. As I said the other day, I went out to have another go on pasture using same coil and your simple settings. I checked every signal against the programme I usually use (Gary Blackwell's Sonar prog) and frustratingly the sonar prog was better every damn time! I am fully aware of how important it is to always dig those whispery signals but I simply can't replicate your success on pasture. So... I don't think you will do this Alex and I wouldn't blame you one iota if you don't but a short vid on pasture detecting, signals, sounds, depths would be very interesting. TWO: Jettons. I sometimes wonder if these are a bit 'Emperor's new clothes' when we read "they are counters". I think; they didn't have to produce actual metal 'coins' they could have used coins or even buttons but counters??? Do we really know for sure that they were used for counters or are we just passing on what we have read/heard? Thanks again Alex
I cant use the sonar programme as it is meant to be fully, as I don't have a remote to fix the settings... but it might well be better - as i said I am just so used to reading what I have had to work with ... sorry it was no good - and yes - I will do a pasture video - it will be fun - thank you for the idea; i will start thinking of a good structure for it!
I know what you mean about the jettons... do you think they were more important than just counters or less so - one thing is certain; I have found far many more hammered coins than I have jettons from the sane age... 🤔 Wg=hat are you thoughts on their use? Some can be particularly lovely... Hope all well Colin and thanks for watching!
I think my ratio must be around 30 hammered for one jetton. As you say, some of them are really handsome which is another reason I can't see them simply as counters but I have always asked myself "what else could they have been used for" and I haven't come up with an answer yet. Best wishes and pleased to see you are on the mend now.

yep, that's a saxon one ! Stützarmfibeln are super rare in my area and in Denmark but common in the Saxon South never found one of them (...shot a complete early "ligearmet fibel" of a rare subclass during my easter hunt tho....) and looks indeed like a razor 😂 maybe display the brooch openly with a modern razor innocently placed next to it (maybe painted in gold and with some zick-zack lines) - the handsome common Saxon, clean shaven since the beginning 👌
Thats such a funny idea Feldgeist; I may well do that ... or at least just label it "early 5thC Saxon razor" and see what people say!!!! Hope all well and thanks as always for the extremely useful knowledge you impart! All the Best, Alexander

Well Alexander what a video. Love the conditions of those Roman coins. The rest of the finds just awsome, well done and the last find lets just say every day is a learning day. Regards Ian from Ipswich
Well done. I've recently found a Saxon burial site. I had 10 fragments of crusiformial brooches in ones little area of a field. I was wondering what settings would help me get some more depth? I have a Deus 1 with a 11 inch coin and a 9 inch High frequency coin.
I prob cant help as the settings I use are generally not seen as deep settings they are my go to ones that just work for me. Gary Blackwell has some very good videos on it though - hope all well!

You really do have some fantastic permissions full of finds that other detectorists can only dream of. I have been detecting 50 years, although now disabled and I have never been lucky enough to find such productive land.
Sorry about that - I don't know what to say... I suppose if i never found anything or never had luck with permissions i would pick a different hobby - I like fishing too and I shoot and paint so there would always be something for me to do - wishing you luck and all the Best, Alexander
Thanks Kim! You know I definitely find more and more good stuff the longer I do this - something about practice and luck I suppose - you know what they say?! Hope all well and thank you 🙏 for watching! All the Best!
I would like to learn more about how to negotiate with the land owner. I think that's an overlooked topic worth sharing. I'm a fan of the jewelry, but the tools are probably more historically interesting. The lump of lead is an amazing find, I would like to learn more of what it was used for. If I were to detect behind you, I would be digging a few of the iron signals out of curiosity. Gold I watched a live stream yesterday, Treasure Outdoors, find a gold earring on the beach. The TID/VID was '1' in the sand. When he reexamined it laying on the surface the detector didn't sense it, very strange. It even went negative into the iron tone when air testing. The detector couldn't sense the 10k earring on the surface. Go to 38:50 min. METAL DETECTING HAPPY EASTER! (LIVE REPLAY) Treasure Outdoors th-cam.com/video/gEYDFQaJUh0/w-d-xo.html This is where the gold sounded like iron, laying on the surface. Go to 43:09 min. th-cam.com/video/gEYDFQaJUh0/w-d-xo.html Tks! GH👨🦯HH
Hi PBR hope all well - its all good and well digging the iron signals though you may find your good find to rusty nail and bits of old horshoe ratio a bit off-putting and after a while, and 100s of holes later, you may find it better to avoid it! I don't know that chap's detector but the one i use wouldn't mistake gold for iron... though interestingly gold often gives a very low tone closer to the iron range than silver gives , say. Anyway, thank you very much for watching - All the Best, Alexander

Hi Alexander, great finds, great video. I was hoping there would be a new one waiting for me as I walked home after a couple of hours detecting. My finds were poor today and not many but seeing your finds cheered me up. I use the Deus 1 with the standard 11 inch coil, is that your set up too? I'm not getting the depth you do but I'm still battling with the awful wheat stubble 😂 Thank you for the interesting video.
Thanks for watching Jay... to get the depth yo reallly have to be millimetres off the ground... wheat stubble is really hard I always struggle with it so I always do it but don't get my hopes up too high you are really relying on things close to the surface and not really even worth thinking about anything deeper - less stressful that way and means every half decent find a bonus so stick with it!!!

Those Romans do not get old to me!!...I would love to dig them.
Looks like it is still cold too!!!
Great video and those Romans were in great detail too ....the one looked like it was dropped yesterday!

That Anglo-Saxon brooch could have arrived with the first wave of Angles settling in Britain. Amazing find Alex!
I think thats probably right OP and yes, it is rather amazing to think of it that way! Hope all well!
Thanks for another great video. I always love the history lessons.
Thanks Terry!!! Hope all well with you!!
Great finds, Alexander! I like Roman end Celtic finds the most! 🙂
Me too Jernej - do you find much Celtic where you are ? Hope all well!
@@HolzHammerSagas , I have found nice Celtic bronze ring (so called Celtic proto money) with a great patina. I was soooooo happy, when I found it. ❤️ I am from Slovenia. 🙂
@@sharkyslo did you really?! Wow! i am coming to fish in your country in May! I have been a few times now and always wondered what it must be like to detect the fields by the rivers we go to! Are the laws strict?

Fantastic video. Brooch is amazing- must be unbelievable to hold artifact that old. Surprise you don't see Saxon ghosts on horseback at dusk in those fields! Cheers from Florida
That would be cool... maybe you do! Thanks Michele! And hope all well!
Heard very creepy drums at dusk in the Saratoga battlefields, one foggy evening! We left very quickly. Area was a huge battle( against British) 1777.

What a day! Wonderful finds again Alex. I think the landowner will be very happy with that brooch😃👍
Yes that one is going his way unless he would like me to have it i will keep you posted Mick! Hope all well and thanks for watching! All the Best, Alexander
yep, that's a saxon one ! Stützarmfibeln are super rare in my area and in Denmark but common in the Saxon South
never found one of them (...shot a complete early "ligearmet fibel" of a rare subclass during my easter hunt tho....)
and looks indeed like a razor 😂 maybe display the brooch openly with a modern razor innocently placed next to it (maybe painted in gold and with some zick-zack lines) - the handsome common Saxon, clean shaven since the beginning 👌
Thats such a funny idea Feldgeist; I may well do that ... or at least just label it "early 5thC Saxon razor" and see what people say!!!! Hope all well and thanks as always for the extremely useful knowledge you impart! All the Best, Alexander

Good video , I have to tell you I had permission on a field and one part was covered in roman bronzes, it must have been a scattered hoard ,all third century.
I suspect you are right John... lucky you - were they in good nick? Hope all well and All the Best, Alexander
Well Alexander what a video. Love the conditions of those Roman coins. The rest of the finds just awsome, well done and the last find lets just say every day is a learning day. Regards Ian from Ipswich

The spade is perfect, i use the same.
The best detecting channel ( love watching your vids ).
Thank you very much Nick! That's very nice to hear 🙏😁 hope all well and all the best, Alexander
G'day Alexander, Roman, Saxon, wow! What a great day. I dig with a $10 SAXON shovel from Bunnings. Yes, the brand is Saxon 😂 but I'll never find the real thing😅. There are so many fantastic coins and the Saxon brooch, and the medieval horse tack near the end. Nice Roman yard weight, huge bloody lump of lead. All the best mate. Al ✌️👍🦘

Congratulations on your wonderful finds. How do you split your finds with landowners? All the best from Wendy in Canada!
Hi Wendy - it depends what eal you have - most of the time Landowners don't really care for the grotty stuff but genearlly the good stuff is split 50/50 - I generally hope that I can buy them out of their share of anything semi valuable and thats usually agreeable!

Gold
I watched a live stream yesterday, Treasure Outdoors, find a gold earring on the beach. The TID/VID was '1' in the sand. When he reexamined it laying on the surface the detector didn't sense it, very strange. It even went negative into the iron tone when air testing.
The detector couldn't sense the 10k earring on the surface.

I'm not getting the depth you do but I'm still battling with the awful wheat stubble 😂
Thank you for the interesting video.
Lovely video, I've got to say I think Romans are my favourite and the quality of the ones you found were beautiful, do you use same settings on the pasture, hot reactivity 2.5 I've just had a little try with this 😊

I have recently bought a deus ii ws6 master which I already think is great. Just a question on programs, do you use a preset one or do you have your own
I mainly use the HOT, the presets on the deus are very good and you only need to tinker very little.. my settings won't help you with the new deus.. i am sure you have already but you cant do better than watching Gary Blackwell's videos on how best to use the machine @metal_detecting .
