Music from the historical repertoire of Tang-era music, erhu by Amanda Toh, pipa by Pang Wingg Man, arrangement by Farya Faraji. This is an arrangement of a historical piece of music from the era of Tang-dynasty China using modern Chinese instrumentation, known by the name Cáo Pó. Keep in mind that the melody I selected here is one of the many variations based on reconstructive methods. Described in the poem "Chasing the Past" (追昔遊) by Yuan Zhen (元稹), it was a dance piece. For more information on the melody, I refer you to this video with more exhaustive explanations: th-cam.com/video/CfF2PNBzlnE/w-d-xo.html Tang-era music demarcates itself from modern Chinese traditional music due to the stronger emphasis on heptatonic modes. Whilst modern Chinese traditional music has a tendency to emphasise pentatonicism relative to earlier eras, said earlier eras like the Tang-dynasty's would feature higher occurrences of heptatonic modes like the one heard here. The instrumentation consists of a modern Chinese ensemble of erhu, sheng, yangqin and pipa. The Tang dynasty ruled from 618 to 907, and it is seen by most historians as a golden of Chinese culture, some considering it the apex of many Chinese arts such as poetry.
Not gonna lie, with your music reaching further east, now with East and South Asia represented, I can't help but look forward to (hopefully) seeing you tackled Southeast Asia :D
I don't know if it's just me, but sometimes the erhu sounds like a voice and then like an instrument and then again like a voice. Such an interesting sound. It's very vivid.
as a hongkonger, i have been waiting AGES for you to release a track about china. peroz of china was the appetizer, and now the main course is here! nice job farya! 大唐盛世之樂譜終於得到傳承了!
Never imagined Farya Faraji making some chinese music! As a polish person who plays 3 chinese traditional instruments this is like a dream come true!!!
who was the first Chinese emperor of Mongolian decent? I genuinely wonder about this because I have read many moons ago that the Tang and Song dynasty as well as the Yuan Dynasty rulers were decedents of Chinggis Kahn and therefore I'd appreciate a refresher for the memory
@@HrLBolle that depends on what you define as Emperor, or Mongol. Genghis was long after the Tang, and I believe you're referring to Emperor Taizong, who was styled as a Khan of the northern Turks. Officially it was Kublai, but it can be argued that Abaoji of the Liao was the first of Mongolian descent, but that seems anachronistic and reversed, since the Mongols came after the Khitan. Same with going back further to the Murongs of the Yan and the Tuoba of the Wei.
@@Ulfr5 that's a lot to sort easiest for the definition Emperor = Ruler over the lands that would become known as China and the surrounding nations. Mongol as someone who was born and came from the lands today known as Mongolia and the region of Inner Mongolia.
@@HrLBolle it'd be Kublai if you're looking for a ruler over a unified China. If you're thinking of anyone from the region of Mongolia who later claimed to be an Emperor, but had other claimants to the Imperial throne, it'd be Liu Yuan, leader of one of the Xiongnu tribes going back to the fall of the western Jin dynasty, who claimed to be a matrelineal descendant of the Han Emperors.
The Tang were definitely Chinese. However, general An-Lushan, a Sogdian Turk, declared himself emperor and founder of the Yan dynasty during his rebellion against the Tang(he didn't reign beyond a year).
Farya you’re getting my hopes up about a late Qing era inspired piece, focusing on blending of Western orchestral and traditional elements. Crossover songs are always the best.
This makes me excited. If Farya can make it to Asia, then Southeast Asia is on the cards I hope. But besides that, great job with this one! The fact that you're really trying to give some historical accuracy to the theme even if it's more epic than purely historical makes me immersed in the time period and even emotion of the piece.
Thai piphat or Indonesian gamelan music would be great examples. However, Southeast Asian traditional music relies heavily on the metallophone instrument ensemble which hardly exist in the Western World.

I'd love to see you talk about video game soundtracks. I think the one i just mentionned are the perfect representation of how video game music basically became extremely good over the years
