Tengri is 58 years old well known singer in China. He is Mongol from inner Mongolia of China. He wrote this song in 1997 to express how much he miss and love his home town. His daughter passed away at a very young age due to illness so this song is for her as well. In the beginning there was traditional Mongolian throat singing. Some traditional Mongolian instrument was used in this performance like horsehead fiddle
I'm so happy you reacted to Tengri. I will be 71 years young in 3 days and I clearly remember listening to this type of music as a small child. I no longer remember when or where but I do remember the music. This brought back the strong connection I felt all those years ago. From the Great Plains of the central United States, I thank you for bringing back my happy memories from my childhood for my birthday. :-)
Oh this song is actually about the Home town of Tengger too, in Inner Mongolia where the Steppe and giant grassland is, what a coincidence!

Ohhhhhh Tengri! I just love him! He wrote this song several decades ago! He sings of his beautiful homeland Inner Mongolia, when he was a child at his grandparents. Then he laments the destruction of the same beauty. He and his friends plant plants frequently. Even though I’ve seen this many times, I still cry. Such a beautiful man. Thanks once again! Eu acho a história da Mongólia maravilhosa. Li uma série de 5 livros desde a época do Gengis Khan até o Kublai Khan e fiquei apaixonada. Ver o Tengri cantar dessa maneira é surreal. Ele é sensacional.

The throat singing in the beginning is called humai, it is traditional technique of the mongols. Used mainly in Mongolia and inner mogolia province of China.

I knew you'd like him. The link I gave yesterday is the one with Eng. subs. In the song he is calling the way his home of Inner Mongolia used to be, before it was ruined by industrialization, "heaven". It is sort of a plea to let his homeland return to the way it once was. Someone said that the man brought to tears in the audience was also from Mongolia. I really enjoyed the amazed looks on Hua Chenyu's face. He did a cover of Tengri's song which is different in tone. Hua Chenyu said that he thought that Tengri should have won that weeks competition. As in "Swan Goose" there are 2 types of Mongolian singing going on at the beginning of the song : the low Mongolian Throat Singing, and the high Polyphonic Overtone Singing. Hua had to rearrange this song (that was selected by his challenger) in the Next competition in 24 hours. This was before the Singer. He admired Tengri and taught Hua how to make one of the vocal sound he used in one his song in the competition.

That is not a Mongolian, but one of the 56 ethnic minorities in China, and it has nothing to do with industrialization. In fact, there are still a large number of Mongolians on the grasslands of Inner Mongolia who are nomadic for their livelihoods, and they are more industrialized. The grasslands are as wide as ever. And beautiful, the degree of industrialization in the entire Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is not that high. This song was created at the beginning of the 21st century. Imagine that China's industrialization was not very developed at that time, especially Inner Mongolia. The original intention of this song was simply to express the love for nomadic life and the homeland of the grassland. Unfortunately, a few years later, Tengger's six-year-old daughter died in a car accident. And on this stage, the feelings expressed by Tengger have changed a lot from more than ten years ago. I think this is more of the feelings for my daughter.

Thank you Fabricio. I love tis song but it always brigs tears to my eyes. Like you, I have no idea what he is singing but the sheer emotion that Tengri puts into the song makes me feel every pain. At the beginning the instrumentalists are Mongolian throat singing. It's amazing. This was composed by Tengri and he had a concert in NYC on 9/14/2001. He dedicated this song to all the victims of 9/11.

Mongolians still speak sky as "Tenger" just in all day normal speeches, Tengri is an old mongolian writing pronounciation. Respect our great singer, inner mongolian. Beginning shows, the traditional mongolian khuumii and horse fiddles.
