I really don't think they need to complicate the All-Star Game with all these new formats and changes. It was solid for like, 60 years. They don't need to treat it like Game 7 of the NBA Finals, but all that needs to happen is the players give a little effort.
The problem with the All-Star Game isn't the format, it's the lack of effort, commitment and competitiveness from the players. Making the format into a small tournament may slightly make it more competitive, but it's not gonna make a noticeable difference. Players actually played like a real game, or almost like a real game back in the days, we won't get that anymore, even with new formats.
I commented this in a different video, but I believe the NBA should remodel All Star Weekend into NBA Cup Weekend. Fridays are the SFs, Saturday can be skills competition, and Sunday is the NBA Cup Final

Hear me out: What if we bring the draft back. BUT every player that is voted an all star is gets to draft one player from his conference that he thinks is skilled but maybe overlooked or underrated to play in the voted guys place So the guy who gets “voted” still gets the credit for hall of fame talks or whatever, but the player that gets drafted gets incentives such as exposure, and maybe the nba keeps the 100k bonus. Also the mvp gets an extra bonus on top of that or something. So now we’re getting quality basketball from some of the best in the world, but the stars don’t have to risk injury or feel drained by making appearances and having to play basketball

Just a silly idea, but what if they took 12 guys on 10 day contracts or unsigned FAs and put them up against an all star team. And if they win they all get a 1-year guaranteed deal or something. I don’t think any all star caliber player would be ok losing to a team of guys on 10 day deals, and those players on the other side would be fighting for their lives out there. Instead of changing the format, why not just give the winning conference (or if you do captain format) automatic home court advantage throughout the playoffs for that captain's nba team or the conference's team in the nba finals like how the MLB does. They should just make the skills challenge the main draw of all star weekend. Make east all stars and West all stars go against each other, then the winner of the east and winner of the west go against each other for the trophy and a cash prize. You can add the 3pt contest into it as well. 1st round could be the normal skills challenge, 2nd round could be a game of horse and the 3rd round could be a 1v1 up to 21. The Championship game could also be a 1v1 up to 21
Moving the all-star game to earlier is actually a good idea.
How about starting the season with the all-stars + rookis/g-league from the previous season before the trade deadline.

Move it to after the season. Have players play for end season awards. The top 4 candidates for mvp play a mini 1v1 tournament to 11pts a game. The clutch award goes to one of the top 4 candidates who compete 1v1 3 second scenario tournaments against the top defensive candidates. All nba award would be the replacement for the all star game. Have two teams compete for the all nba award and each team would have the coaches of the year. Whichever team wins gets 1st team all nba and the coach gets coach of the year. The rookie candidates of the year would compete in a mini 1v1 tourney as well. It’s not hard to do

Hear me out:
What if we bring the draft back. BUT every player that is voted an all star is gets to draft one player from his conference that he thinks is skilled but maybe overlooked or underrated to play in the voted guys place
So the guy who gets “voted” still gets the credit for hall of fame talks or whatever, but the player that gets drafted gets incentives such as exposure, and maybe the nba keeps the 100k bonus. Also the mvp gets an extra bonus on top of that or something.
So now we’re getting quality basketball from some of the best in the world, but the stars don’t have to risk injury or feel drained by making appearances and having to play basketball
I think they need to go back to the draft and give them higher cash winnings for the winners and put it in the beginning of the off season like a week after the finals

the ASG is an exhibition. That's the point and problem. Everyone knows its an exhibition but want it to be treated as a FInals game. Exhibitions by design are not for the players to be 100% tryhard. Just show off.
They just need to move the All-Star game to the end of the NBA season. Just put it right before the finals just like NFL does, that way players who are worried about injuries will still have plenty of months to recover from whatever happens.
Go back to East-West. The players can play for a bonus based on the playoff revenue and All-Star revenue, and/or determine which side gets home court advantage in next year's Finals.

Just a silly idea, but what if they took 12 guys on 10 day contracts or unsigned FAs and put them up against an all star team. And if they win they all get a 1-year guaranteed deal or something. Like yeah, they’re likely to lose in a blowout, but at least it would add some real stakes, and they’d be playing competitive basketball. I don’t think any all star caliber player would be ok losing to a team of guys on 10 day deals, and those players on the other side would be fighting for their lives out there. Not to mention it would give some shine to unknown players that could get the chance to showcase their abilities against the best of the best. Probably a dumb idea but 🤷♂️

Until now no one is able to answer why you need freedom of movement when there is only one type of defense (zone) and waaay better healthcare, amenities and fitness. Also forgot that a simple touch is a foul. Players back then played 75-82 games and they feel awful for missing games as well as getting whacked nightly

I don’t think the amount of effort and attention the NBA has given to fixing the all-star game is really proportionate to how important the game is. They spend so much resources and energy trying to fix it, but who really cares about it. Ya it’s fun but it’s not like the game means anything. They should divert their attention elsewhere to fix other things in the league that actually matter

Instead of changing the format, why not just give the winning conference (or if you do captain format) automatic home court advantage throughout the playoffs for that captain's nba team or the conference's team in the nba finals like how the MLB does. A simple answer right in front of silver's eyes that will give players something to play for. Also they should allow defensive 3 seconds for the ASG.

its may be good allstar if theres 1 on 1 game to each allstar player. And have a record to like in the Ufc win or lose record. if teams East wins or lose record. And it affects theyr contract stakes
The part where y’all said “ there’s no real reason for them to play hard” says so much about where we stand as a society and how in my opinion how disconnected and disillusioned, apathetic, and dare I say narcissistic. It’s incredibly disheartening and leaves one with hopelessness for where we’re heading.
I think in a sense, you are right that these players or people don’t believe that there is a real reason to care and compete.
It’s true in the sense that yeah they absolutely obviously do think that way, but it’s incorrect! there is a very clear and what I would hope in a perfect world would be one of the top if not the top reason to put an effort and play hard.
That reason is having integrity having pride in ones self and their performance, and wanting to have something that represents you and what your name is attached to be respected and cared about and seem inspired and like it fucking matters.
I mean to put it simply as possible it’s integrity and self-respect and selflessness (when thinking about the fans) that is a reason not only A reason…. It’s is THE reason!
Simple as that.
I see why the players, and people in general think and behave as they do…. It’s not really hidden, complicated, or a mystery It’s what society dictates and almost encourages people to move towards when doing anything in life. It’s not an easy fix or one that really is going to be rewarded if it’s pursued. (not in the short term at least)
But at the same time, it’s fucking scary sad disheartening. But it’s just the truth. What we need rite now is someone who isn’t afraid to see and express the hard truths.
Shit needs to change and I think that’s part of the reason why I’m taking the time to write such a lengthy and thought out response.
