Do you feel sorry for Kieran? Is he a bit to edgy? I need answers.
Yes, forgive Keiran, but don't feel sorry for him. He was his own worst enemy. We gave him someone to unleash his rage on and now edgy is his new ultimate form. That's what friends are for.

Kieran is understandable angry.
Imagine some random person comes to your home town and starts shadowing you in your job and family.
I feel sorry for him in the sense of how much he is going against an unmovable object, the player is always meant to win and has dozens of advantages over any given NPC, I am an unstoppable Mary Sue who immediately sent out a Terminator penguin with a flawless chrome finish, so powerful that in some circles it is said to fight among gods, it was never a real fight, and it is a wall that he cannot become strong enough to overcome.
now I feel very strong, but also somehow guilty at the same time D:
I lost the battle on purpose and it didn't even count. Come on, Game Freak!

I feel the main thing about Kieran that a lot of people miss is that he is ultimately still responsible fore his own downfall, so to speak. The version of Ogerpon in his head that he loves so much doesn't truly line up with reality, and he was the one who ultimately chose to not spend time with her and actually bond with her, yet he still feels entitled to have her just because. The whole point of the final battle with him is that he's being selfish (which he himself even acknowledges) and looking at the things the wrong way, because he thinks battle strength is what should decide Ogerpon's fate rather than her own personal feelings and choices, which is exactly why he doesn't deserve her. He looks at her as a prize to be won rather than a true partner, which completely goes against what makes a good relationship between trainer and Pokémon. While there are elements of his story that are deserving of sympathy, he is ultimately the one to make the choices that take him down a darker path, and I really wish that people would stop ignoring that part about it.
Plus, no matter how you feel about the whole lying thing (which, while not executed the greatest, actually isn't as nonsensical as some people might think if you look at it from the perspective of a visiting child trying to respect the wishes of essentially their host family), your player character does ultimately take accountability for it and apologize. Which means that everything that happens from there is entirely Kieran's choice to frame the situation as himself against the world, which is likely only going to come crashing down around him in part 2 when he realizes how alienated from others he's truly become because of his own actions (though I have a feeling Carmine will ultimately still apologize as well).
His character only works if you consider every piece of it.
Yes, thank you! Finally, someone else gets it! Kieran's anger is justified, but trying to beat the player and win Orgerpon to fill some void was just wrong. Even if he did win, Ogerpon would still choose the player. If Kieran tried to catch it by force, Ogerpon would just sweep his team and still leave with the player. To be honest, I believe Kieran had to make this mistake to get better both as a person and as a rival to the player because now Kieran can use his pent-up anger constructively to get stronger. However, it is still up to him to use his newfound strength for good or for evil.
Here's something I really only saw japanese players notice: Kieran's final team is filled with easy pokemon. FOUR of his pokemon evolved with items, Yanma only needed to level up knowing ancient power, and Gligar's similar, but holding the razor fang at night. He didn't need to ACTUALLY raise his team with love and care. He wanted a good team, and he needed it *now.* It's honestly a cool detail... not the same as a friendship evolution or pokemon using Return/Frustration, though.
Actually, Frustration would be an AMAZING move for Kieran's team to use later. Not just because of the villain aspect, but also because competitive players used to intentionally run Frustration as a preventative measure against Dittos that happened to have max friendship.

I’m happy other people see his flaws as well as me. I personally feel people give the MC to little credit for the work we put in to earn what we get. Having to be the shoulder to cry on for other characters trauma dumping, fighting dangerous legendaries and evil teams. Obviously it’s a game we paid for so of course we get the rewards, but in universe the MC earns it through gameplay we don’t become champion just randomly.
Now we got confirmation that yes he's indeed too spooky.
the fact kieran says "what cant you do you are like the hero in a story" is an insult not a complement since by now you know the so called "heroes" the loyal 3 are the villains is briliant writing
Kieran is what I wanted for Hop. We literally dashed their hopes and dreams in front of them and Hop kinda just... wasn't completely crushed by it, but Kieran? He had the reaction that I fully expected from someone who lost the custody battle of the most adorable 500 year old baby. I hope he tries to grind my bones down to make bread in the Indigo Disk. Oh, wait, that's giants...
The difference between hop and Kieran is hop knew how to handle everything. And he still got the other legend in the end.
Kieran got nothing. But humiliation. Your character doesn't really even show any empathy even if you want to. And when you think about it. Kieran is likely responsible for the loyal threes revival...if anything he is a unwilling antagonist who then (predictions inbound) accepts his role and dedicated his time to finding a way to rip you apart and who wishes to make your fainted pokemon cry for mercy. And he will relish ending who he views as the person who took everything (your a legend if you can find out what I referenced-)

Hop had friends and a nice brother he idolize. Kieran has no friends and a sister with anger issues
This battle actually gave me trouble when I fought him. Well, it's a good thing that I had a bunch of Max Revives at hand. I don't know if it's just me, but Kieran has Paulo (from Pokemon Masters) vibe to him. Plus, I loved how this battle is basically a child custody battle to see who gets to keep Ogerpon.
Thank god parents dont battle each other for adopting a child in rl^^‘
I only had two low level PKM with me, so the fight was pretty easy. I just wanted to finish the story as fast as possible

Kieran = Gyutaro: Both look down on themselves and are quick to get angry when they think someone is better than them. Also they look scarily similar because of their hair styles and yellow eyes.
Carmine = Daki: Both think their extremely pretty and look done on others they deem inferior. They are quick to anger and tend to yell a lot when something doesn't go their way. Also, they have similar long hair and peircing eyes. I think some people at Game Freak are secretly Demon Slayer fans.😂

I feel sad for him that he became like Paulo in Pokemon Masters EX. I see some similarities of him to Zinnia but different, Zinnia likes Rayquaza but she wants Rayquaza to save the wolrd for the good of everyone and doesn't mind losing Rayquaza to you. As for Kieran, he's obsessed with Orgerpon and literally goes to kill the player in the 2nd DLC to revenge for stealing Ogerpon from him. (I can feel his immense pain from his eyes)
Yet, his theme 100% slaps me into the other side of the universe

@@marccark This. Why the hell do we agree to keep a secret from him, especially if the other sibling is aware of it. We have opportunity after opportunity to say "fuck this" and come clean, but the game doesn't let us. Worse, he already knows anyways, since he was eavesdropping.
I love Kieran he's one of the best characters. I wanted to told him about Ogerpon bit thescript doesn't want. I think it's normal that he turn evil and I love is redemption

Honestly, I’m hoping the little guy is possessed or gaslighted by Dokutaro. If the theory that there’s a boss to the “Loyal” Three is true, then it’s possible Dokutaro might’ve gotten to Kieran at least after Ogerpon dropped her mask. Kieran going from a shy kid to a champion level trainer in less than a week is impressive, but if his wish to become stronger was fulfilled because Dokutaro got to him, it would make sense as to why he snapped.
I really like where Kieran is as a character by the end, I just don't like the path we took to get there. Not being allowed to make actual choices is par for the course in Pokémon, but being forced to lie to him when we didn't have any further context about the situation just felt really off-putting.
That said, given how he sees Ogerpon as "rightfully his" and more as a trophy than an actual potential friend means that ultimately it's better we lied to him and prevented him from coming too close to the little violence bean. So overall the morale of Teal Mask seems to be: "Discriminating against strangers based on their appearance is bad, actually. But gaslighting children is justifiable!"
So the writing is a bit of a mess, but it ends up in a promising place for Indigo Disk? I ended up really liking Carmine as a character, fingers crossed she gets to interact with Nemona at some point.
As for Kieran? Boy needs to calm down. And possibly have some nefarious evil influence slapped out of him in a friendly battle. I don't know, theories around that are wild right now. I do hope he'll provide a proper challenge to the team I'll be having then.
I feel like the whole conflict with Kieran could've been resolved in one conversation. Tbh, I'm not sure why I needed to lie to him in the first place. "Look, man, we saw the ogre yesterday after you left, and it dropped its mask. We're gonna go to the Crystal Lake to grab some material to repair it. Wanna come with?" There. Problem solved!
I am intrigued with Kieran potentially being a big boss in part 2, though.
you are absolutely right, I would have said from the beginning what happened, then the whole thing would not have built up. but then we would have had no drama in the story :D

Carmine isn’t a good enough sibling to even think of that.
Problem is, Kieran's a bit of a dipshit when it comes to Ogerpon in that he's gone up Oni Mountain alone before. He probably doesn't realize that Ogerpon would kill him if she felt threatened enough by him, and since he doesn't have a phone, he wouldn't be able to call for help if he got hurt. And if he was killed... well, the other villagers would just shrug it off and say some shit like "that's why you don't mess with the ogre, kids!".
I'd honestly tell him about seeing Ogerpon, but after thinking about it, I completely understand why Carmine wanted it to be a secret. Ogerpon has killed before, she's capable of doing it again.

Sadly it doesn’t matter how strong he becomes because every trainer was in the 60s in the dlc and we were in the upper 90’s. And if we weren’t who the fuck was going around doing the voluntary battles in 20 fps to train when they have exp candies. I had fun with the dlc but nothing felt earned. Second dlc better not be hot garbage
And if you try to complete this before beating the game, everything goes down to level ~20 lmao
