@mikewoodrow5878 I've got a few 8 tracks that I haven't listened to in 30+ years but none the less they in a box in my closet. For the record not this one. I hadn't even thought about them in years until I saw your comment. I'll have to get them out just to look at for a minute. I've got Scream Dream, A Magicians Birthday, and Candyo
Tom Scholz was an MIT-grad and an engineer so he finessed this album to the nth degree. There are no weak tracks on it, it's almost perfect. A one-of-a-kind labor of love
He was working with Polaroid by day and doing the local club circuit around Boston with a few bands at night. This album was recorded in his basement with simple analogue recording equipment. Scholz had a hand in playing all the instruments and even figured out ways to use inferior guitars to his advantage in recording.
I agree but it was great on more than one level. The sharp songs, Delp's incredible voice, the technical quality of the recording, everything. And when you think about it, no band could do that more than once.
Yeah, I wonder if the massive success of this debut album and the fights with their label over their later albums is what led to Brad Delp's suicide decades later?
Boston literally saved Rock with this album. It made all the other bands say to themselves that they better kick it into gear and compete with this genius music!
To me Brad Delp was the sound of Boston. The group is iconic and it stands for itself. To me it was the best time to grow up. When people like you listen to the original group with the original lineup keeps it all alive. Rock will never die as long as poeple like you keep it alive.
An amazing masterpiece, that is what this song is!!! Great reaction! You are reacting to some truly great songs Shawn that have touched so many! Love your reactions!☮💜
Brad Delp should get more praise, and recognition. He is awesome! I think people forget that Brad did the vocals and backup vocals on the albums. Brad was very talented, and one of the best singers. Sure Tom wrote most of the songs, however, Brad gave them life. Thanks for being on the Boston journey.
You hit it on the nail then again being one of the top premiere album ever would be impossible to duplicate. They had some good songs though all similar in style.
Just got home. Just in time. Saw them on their THIRD STAGE tour up near San Francisco (their third album). This one got LOTS of radio air time. Maybe more than any other from this LP. Tom Scholz had a true gift.
Fantastic album, unbelievable vocals from the late, great Brad Delp. Scholz, Goudreau, Hashian and Sheehan...all great too. Music I still can't stop listening to...🎤🎶🎸
Scholz’s engineering skills enabled him to design and build his own guitar effects gear, he did market his invention but he had another one he used he kept under lid
Man what a joyful reaction. It was fascinating you experienced it just the way that a lot of us did, in my case first hearing them on the radio in 8th grade and then getting to go see them in 9th grade in a small indoor arena on their first tour; it was incredible. But from a musician standpoint, yeah it really even sounded super new at the time, and he took a whole bunch of different things that were already existing as effects, and he put them together in a new and very interesting way, even going so far as to modify and make his own effects at some point, but what he did for sure was combine an awful lot of compression/sustain with some really rich saturated distortion. And then 90% of it was recorded in his basement studio he had worked on for months and months while his buddies were out actually gigging. Apparently he missed playing so much, and they had been in various bands together before, that Brad would take a break from the studio and go basically back to join them onstage as guest appearances just so he could feel that live feeling again, and then go back into his basement studio. It's pretty amazing. I am so supremely happy that you decided to take on this iconic debut album, Shawn. I mean I really am excited. And right when this ended I almost wished that I could see the next one like right now. Laugh.
@@ShawnSalvadoriwell I follow numerous reaction channels which is strange because I'm a musician and have played in bands forever and compose all kinds of things but I'm just really enjoying how much you're exploring all this. I just think it's really interesting and I don't know, it's really cool.
If you think the Grammy's have become a joke, remember that in 1976 Boston lost for Best New Artist to Starland Vocal Band and then the next year Foreigner lost for Best New Artist to Debbie Boone. And if you think the Rock and Roll Music Hall of Fame is a joke just remember that neither of them, Boston or Foreigner are in it.
I think this is one of the reasons lead guitarist/keyboardist Tom Scholz brought in Barry Goudreau as a second lead guitarist (the other is "Foreplay / Long Time"). The dueling lead guitar solos in the bridge between the last two verses are amazing! R.I.P., Brad, you had a great voice.
Shawn, aren’t these oldie songs great? You play songs from the 60’s too…I’m going to subscribe to your channel, keep those great songs from years back, coming, ok? 👍👏👏👏💜 thank you!💜
One of the greatest and yet one of the most disappointing bands ever. Tom Scholtz was a brilliant engineer and knew how to get this unique soundscape from his recording sessions, but he felt the need to control every aspect of the process, and his work as an engineer somehow made the band take a back seat. He had Brad Delp, one of the most unique voices ever recorded and ended up with only three albums in their entire run. Eleven years, I think it was, from the first to the third album. Then Brad Delp died and they never got around to anything else. The three albums, of course, are brilliant. Beautifully mastered. And yet, after a while most of the material really turns out to be the same set of guitar hooks, some shifting keys, and Delp's voice.
As a teen in 1976 it was almost a crime if you didn't own this album. I had mine, so I was safe.
Yup, me too - except on 8-track. Ka-chunk!
8-track at first then later vinyl.
At my school it was guaranteed to get you stuffed in your locker

A lil younger, but I had it dubbed twice on cassette . This should never be forgotten
The whole album is Smokin. 48 yrs later it still rocks.
How appropriate. "Smokin'! Smokin! Boogie tonight! Just a' keep on tokin'!.

Best Debut album of all time period.
Hey ya, but Led Zeppelin
Agreed 👍💯

One of the great guitar riffs of the classic rock era. Possibly more memorable than the band itself. This is my personal favorite Boston tune. ❤️🎸
Boston literally saved Rock with this album. It made all the other bands say to themselves that they better kick it into gear and compete with this genius music!

One of thE best debut albums ever, every track is special 👍
This album set the bar for all debut albums!!!!!!
The smile on your face says it all, Shawn!
Between this and The Cars first album for best debuts ever.
So true!!
First Foreigner album a close runner-up.
Arguable bot doable for a 70's teenager back in the day.

You can also here Brad sing for RTZ and Delp/Goudreau.
@@davestang5454 Brad was awesome with them, too. He had a gorgeous voice.
Entire album is a jam and just about every one owned this album
Fantastic writing and so true being happy in life is the most important thing
BEST ROCK ALBUM EVER!!! IMO.
Boston was never able to build a better monster than this album, great band!
You hit it on the nail then again being one of the top premiere album ever would be impossible to duplicate. They had some good songs though all similar in style.
❤❤❤ Try "A Man I'll Never Be", "Foreplay/Long Time", "Don't Look Back", "Something About You" and "Amanda".
I would definitely include "Walk On Medley". It's probably the most complex song they put together.
Yes, listen to the whole album. All bangers. You will love the keyboards in “Smokin’”
Boston, number 1 album of all time. Nuff said.
Just got home. Just in time. Saw them on their THIRD STAGE tour up near San Francisco (their third album).

……….best debut album from any rock band in my lifetime 🎸 I’m from Boston and I approve this message 🤣😂🤣
❤️ (1976) ❤️
Tom Scholz recorded this in his basement. He was/is a genius and invented his own guitar effects. After this everyone copied him.
That’s my favorite Boston song! Always resonated with me ❤
Scholz’s engineering skills enabled him to design and build his own guitar effects gear, he did market his invention but he had another one he used he kept under lid
I wouldn't argue with anyone who said this is the best album of all time and I can't say I feel that way but it sure is great music

Boston still gets tons of airplay on XM and classic rock radio
I saw Boston open for Robin Trower in Toronto 1977. They sounded just like the record.
If you haven't reacted to Boston's "Foreplay/long time"....definitely should your next song!!🎶🎼🎵🎸🎤🥁🎧🎹🤘💜
This song really helped me make a change in my life in the 90's when I was on the fence.
One of the best albums of all time

Almost 100% sure that Boston was elected to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame relatively recently. Look it up.

'That Right ,Just Peace of Mind' what we all need
There is one coming up from this first Boston album that I am just longing to watch you hear.
That IS, good stuff.
Boston was my antidepressant in high school 😊
FANTASTIC SONG. LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. GREAT WHEN IT CAME OUT AND HAS STOOD THE TEST OF TIME. BILLY BOY
Killer Reaction....Love the way You listen to the whole song....Can You see all the upside down guitar space ships in the album art ?
Love the UFO guitar ships lol
RIP Brad Delp!🤘🎸
My personal high school theme song.💪❤️
Stadium Rock at its Best
I describe them crisp, clean and raw!!!!! Love them
Along with CTA the 2 best premiere album by a rock band !
You haven't really listened to this album until you put it on a Technic stereo with a pair of Bose 501 speakers.
Two guitars together!!!!
That futuristic sound is called "the 70s"
I know Joe Elliott has said def Leppard is a mix of AC/DC and queen but I always heard the Boston influence in the Steve/Phil combo
Shawn, aren’t these oldie songs great? You play songs from the 60’s too…I’m going to subscribe to your channel, keep those great songs from years back, coming, ok? 👍👏👏👏💜 thank you!💜
Desert Island record.
Turn the album cover upside-down and you see a guitar.
Tom was way out ahead in his time on the guitar… most classic sound of all time!
IMHO I think their second album is every bit as good as the first.
Frijid Pink - "House Of The Rising Sun"
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You may as well just play the first and second album start to finish, every song great.
Upside-down guitars on the cover cool eh !!!!
