I heard a lot about Kezar Stadium from friends I have known. Back in the day when the San Francisco 49ers played. There was Y.A.Tittle, Joe Perry, Leo Nomellini, Hugh McElheny, Jimmy Johnson, Bob St Clair, Dave Wilcox. Also a lot of legendary coaches paced the sidelines. Weeb Ewbank, Don Shula, Vince Lombardi, George Halas, Tom Landry, Bud Grant, George Allan, Sid Gillman, Earl greasy Neill Players include Frank Gifford, Sam Huff, Roosevelt Brown, Andy Robustelli, Emelin Tennell, Paul Warfield, Dante Lavelli, Lou Groza, Marion Motley, Otto Graham, Bill George, Clyde bulldog Turner, George Conners, Sid Luckman, George McCaffey, Bob Lilly, Bart Starr, Forrest Gregg, Ray Nitscke, Jim Taylor, Jim Brown, Fran Tarkenton, Carl Ellerd, Mike Tinglehoff, Ollie Matson, Larry Wilson, Jackie Smith, Charlie Taylor, Bobby Mitchell, Sonny Jurgenson, Doug Atkins, Merlin Olson, Deacon Jones, Les Richter, Tom Mack, Bobby Layne, Doak Walker, Ernie Stautner, Gale Sayers, Mike Ditka, Dick Butkus, Sammy Baugh, Bob Waterfield, Norm Van Brocklin, Johnny Unitas, Raymond Berry, Lenny Moore, Gino Marchetti, Steve Van Buren, Chuck Bednerick, Herb Adderley, Tom Fears, Pete Pihos, and many other players.
I remember watching Lionsxgames there (being raised in Detroit), andxthere was often fog, but lots of seagulls too. I think it was a nicer setup than Candlestick, which I later saw for baseball & fokt b all games, when I lived in SF for 5 years in the 1970s. Glad they have kept it for HS football/track and for public use. Glad Candlestick is no more, as I g ated that place, and the only reason the park was built at crummy Hunter's Point is because former MN ayor, George Christopher owned the land - so it was a corrupt deal all along. Tne new baseball oak is beautiful, but the city lost the 49ers to Santa C L ara. Since there are only 8 home games, the longer drive is not a big issue, though I have never seen a game at Levi's, but then Left goon governor Gavin Gruesome forced the Niners to play in AZ for his Covid Cult theatrics. No wonder they had a bad year!
The Pavilion is still there but the City really should rebuild it. It would be a boon for college and prep basketball. There's already parking. Just add 5 decks.
On June 2nd, 1973 I saw Led Zeppelin play a great concert at Kezar. That was the one and only time I have ever been there. The place was packed. Great time was had by all. LedHed Steven 🎶 🎸 🎹 🎸 🎶
I played in multiple of those Semi-Pro Championship games mentioned in this video. It was an awesome experience especially since my dad got to watch me play on the same field that he and his dad (my Grandfather) went to watch 49er games at. A very fond memory I will always have.
And I remember my 49ers playing the Bears at Wrigley the same time. My favorite game was the tie in 1966. Usually the Bears won their home game, but in SF the 49ers would win, even in 1963. The Bears got their asses kicked plenty of times in Kezar then.
Lincoln Way cut into the southeast part of the stadium. So, it wasn't built parallel to the street. There would have been a capacity of 70,000 at least. Look at how the grandstand dips lower in the overhead photos. The rebuilt Kezar is parallel to Lincoln Way.
The 49ers did NOT join the NFL in 1946. They didn't join until 1950. In 1946 they were part of the new AAFL (All-American Football League) which then included the powerful Cleveland Browns.
Actually, it was the AAFC (All American Football Conference). The league folded after the 1949 season and the Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers joined the NFL for the 1950 season. The Browns and the 49ers stayed put but the Colts moved to New York in 1951, Dallas in 1952 and then back to Baltimore in 1953.
I am a fan of Kezar Stadium. Love working out here, especially during the pandemic. So glad it's open for public use!

A who's who of N.F.L. Hall-of-Famers. 💪🏈🏆
@naturalpro2003 yes indeed

Imagine being able to watch the 9ers from your living room! Lol that would've been amazing!
I remember for many years that Kezar Stadium hosted the East West Shrine Game too
My god that stadium and the pavilion next to it would have been an incredible venue today
I remember that the Kezar Pavilion next to the stadium always had Roller Derby games on Sundays
The Pavilion is still there but the City really should rebuild it. It would be a boon for college and prep basketball. There's already parking. Just add 5 decks.
The City is no longer capable of such greatness
havent been there in almost 50 years...lol..... I remember the old kezar...and seeing soccer games there..
Beautiful

Salutes from Mexico
I remember watching my beloved Chicago Bears playing against the 49ers here in the '60s on TV. They were solid Western Division adversaries.

I have always wondered why they moved to Candlestick Point. Where was baseball played in SF before Candlestick?
“Where’s the girl?”
The helicopter shot in the fog at the end of that scene is SF magic.
@@Cleophus Great film. After seeing SF in so many shows and movies I always wanted to visit someday. Not so much anymore.

:53. The way football SHOULD be played. Old Kezar is also known for the original Dirty Harry movie.
Dec. 18, 1960.
Back before they covered the field. It was better then with the mudfest.
That looks like a 90,000 seat stadium
No, just 60,000. Read my comments. It was built not parallel to the street on the south grandstand side.
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum back in the day can hold up to 100,000 people
It looks like the football equivalent of Wrigley Field, with those rooftop seats; and Fenway Park, for being awkwardly crammed into a neighborhood.

Some people are ignorant.

@@GranpomLali You're right! There was also the LA Dons, Chicago Hornets, Buffalo Bills, and NY Yankees!
Why the hell the fake turf now? I hate that shit!
Bobby Bonds led the charge to ban Astroturf from Candlestick Park. He said, "If cows don't eat it, I don't want to play on it!"
