I think it's about the time for Balinese to seek another way to make a living, heavily dependent on tourism would be bad especially if there's another situation like this happening in the future. Now, I'm not saying they should completely abandon tourism industry because why would they? Bali and Tourism is like bread and butter.
Any suggestions? Not much to replace tourism. As Bali already is popular for people to move to I think Setting up special visa types with incentives to attract long term high income visitors, residents.
Well yeah, gladly the government aware about this before the covid appear so they give free laptop for students from elementary student to junior high school to learn about IT and not just focus about tourism

Re the visa situation. Indonesia never reopened to tourism, the gov only said they would but the hurdles put in place for the future reopening would deter the best tourists as it would take minimum 7 hours to clear custom ( based on feedback from ppl who arrived on the business visa under those new regulations). The business visa is again accessible but now with a 10 day quarantine in a 4 or 5* hotel and arrivals in Jakarta only. No international flights to Bali yet. The gov has announced not to open for intl flights at least till January 22 but don't hold ur breath. They don't expect tourism to reach a pre-covid level before 2024 or even 2025. As things are shifting so fast, it doesn't look like tourism will ever get to what it used to be , Bali has known its best year simply bcs ppl have discovered new and cheaper destinations. Bali has prized itself outside what used to be considered cheap for the lack of quality and skills on offer. Yes some accommodations are really nice but overpriced considering the state of neglect, cleanliness, care or hygiene
I agree mostly with this comment. I think Bali has become too expensive over the years based on quality of the services on offer. This will reset Bali and bring it back down to unfortunately a rather harsh reality. The governments are all sheep and just follow one another. Things will only change once other key tourist hot-spots open up completely. Sad, as plenty of people with lots of money burning a hole in their pocket just want to travel freely and spend. First movers will reap the rewards.

There are many agencies that take care of the business visa, check out they are reliable though. The B211 is valid for 2 months with 4 extensions possible (around $70 per extension). After the initial 6 months it can be converted into a different visa: investor, PMA (to set up a company) , retirement
