Fantastic interview. Very well-done, I learned a lot and I feel like I've seen many Micky interviews. The cover of the album is beautiful and I'm just so happy Nesmith got to see this album made - and then tour one last time before he died. Micky is a beautiful guy; when I was a kid, Nesmith was my favorite but over the years, I realize Micky is my favorite. In a way, he IS The Monkees. He's the voice of the Monkees, he's the spirit of the Monkees, he could act, he could sing. PS: If you want to hyperventilate with laughter, try and find the commentary track Micky did of the Monkees atrocious TV special (I believe it's the last thing they ever did). Micky is watching it along with you and starts cracking joke after joke after joke, it's freaking hilarious.

21:48 As an Avid HAPPY DAYS and MONKEES fan the only time I said, "wonder if Micky had got the part...." was the episode when 'Potsie' had to miss a gig and 'the Fonz' filled in on lead vocals for the band. Henry Winkler talked his way through an awkward version of Heartbreak Hotel. It worked fine, but it would have been GREAT to hear Micky Dolenz sing on HAPPY DAYS.

The Monkees did later become a real band and all of them were very talented. For my money, Micky and Davy were two of the best pop/rock singers ever to come along. Great interview here.

27:23 I have the CD Remember. Micky does an excellent cover of the Beatles classic GOOD MORNING from Sgt. Pepper. It's a soft, mellow version. I actually prefer it to the Beatles version. NOT something I write lightly.

Really interesting interview. It would have been great if The Monkees had taken the MonkeeMobile out in public AFTER they had become famous too. I agree that Dolenz Sings Nesmith is a really good album. "Little Red Rider" is my favorite tune. When Micky was in Circus Boy his stage name was Micky Braddock and he almost used that name in The Monkees. He actually did when they filmed the pilot but reverted to his real name for the series.

It’s a shame that Micky didn’t have a good microphone right in front of him. Using his computer’s built-in mic inside that reflective room, he often sounds like a bad imitation of Micky Dolenz! But it’s good to see that Micky is still Micky.

I'd seen the Monkees play in person 3 times, and each time I just wanted to hear them do their own songs, with few exceptions. They always seemed to be a completely real band further removed from their tv show when they played and sang songs developed and written by themselves----FOR PETE'S SAKE, MARY MARY, RANDY SCOUSE GIT, GIRL I KNEW SOMEWHERE, CIRCLE SKY, I BELIEVE YOU, YOU AND I, NO TIME (which acdtually was written by them as a group), REGIONAL GIRL, ADMIRAL MIKE, YOU JUST MAY BE THE ONE...etc etc. Sorta get tired of them always talking about the great writers they had, almost as if they were discouraged from ever giving themselves a (deserved) pat on the back for picking up the musical torch (to torture a metaphor) and running with it.
Would love to have heard them perform LIVE in concert some things like LONG TITLE, CAN YOU DIG IT, GIRL NAMED ST MATTHEW, JOANNE, SILVER MOON, LADY'S BABY, TEAR THE TOP RIGHT OFF MY HEAD, GOIN' DOWN, HARD TO BELIEVE, DON'T CALL ON ME etc. But, I guess, one needs be appreciative of the fact they DID at least create their own music and unique sound after their initial creation in the Frankensteinian lab of commercial television, and that they DID spend time recording these things.

@RSEFX, you are clearly a dedicated Monkees fan. The growth they had, from being cast as a band on a TV show to being a band writing and producing their own records is quite impressive. Thank you for watching and hopefully you will find another episode you will enjoy as well.
