Still useful more than 4 years later. Fixed one after it bounced down the stairs "all by itself, dad!". They now make the rings joined on one side (they don't fully separate, they fold open after you pry all the snaps apart). Same for the half spheres, they are joined on one side.
I just fixed mine after years of it being broken! Thanks for the video! However, considering I have a toddler, instead of gluing it back I used electrical tape! It worked like a charm and now (not if) when, my toddler breaks it, it'll be easy peasy to open up and fix it! I could even buy blue or white electric tape if I wanted to make it match.
Thanks for posting. The tolerances were so (too) tight that the ball kept getting stuck on one section of my daughter's Perplexus. I found using a thinner blade (I used the long sharp edge of a pocket knife) allowed us to pry apart the rings without breaking as many of the posts. Used a hot glue gun to put it back together.
Thanks so much for this video! Really helped when my son broke his. Just wanted to say, when I sealed his back up, I just used electrical tape! Sealed nicely with a smooth finish and it'll be super easy to get back into again when he inevitably breaks it a second time. Thanks so much!
"Sometimes you gotta feel a little pain to get success!" Thanks for this video, my son somehow broke the same little turquoise funnel thing. I think I'll buy small nuts/bolts for reassembly since I know it'll break again.
Ours got thrown down the stairs and a bunch of areas shifted/broke. I unfortunately broke one of the rings but I was able to fix the stuck seesaw (3-4), shave down the excess plastic preventing the ball from going around the 115-116 track, and resetting the ->91 shortcut at the beginning. Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for showing how to get it apart. I found a fantastic way to put the epic back together though. Without having to glue to two halves back together (so if anything breaks again, you can get to it easier) and to have it look almost better than new. First, go buy some clear plastic tubing: 3/8" OD, 1/4" ID. Cut it to length and split it open so it's spliced open. Then wrap it around the ring. You can then get about 1 1/2" of 3/8" ID tubing, spliced open and trimmed a bit, & glue it on.
Thanks for video, especially for advices for disassembling. My issue was stuck swing obstacle. Chose to lock ball with screws and nuts with size of M3. This size fits mark-hole in the rim and my son chose that way)
If your replacing or repairing the ball. I suggest cutting a hole on the equator big enough for the ball to slip through then covering up with double sided masking tape so the ball doesnt stick to the hole. I recieved my perplexus with a tiny blot of glue on the ball, was an easy and much needed fix :)
Six years late, but if you're watching this today, buy a spudger before doing this. Don't butcher your Perplexus for no reason. You can pry like a screwdriver without destroying the plastic. That goes for any plastic part that needs prying - never use a harder material.
thanks for the video, my perplexus has a small imperfection on obstacle #100 (the one where you go on the underside of the tilting bridge and have to land in the hole and go through a small tunnel) about halfway through my ball would get stuck on something so i couldnt get to 101 ( my guess is that the inside is slightly dented making the hole to tight for the ball to go through). i didnt want to take it apart until i knew i could do so without damaging the puzzle, now hopefully i can find out whats stopping the ball without breaking it as well
I was thinking.. see that in the turquoise halo is a little hole? You can do three more of them with a hot thin wire and then use little screws and nuts to fix it. I have ordered another Epic for a friend and if this one comes broken I'll definitely try that.
I also lost about one fourth of the blue pegs. In order to keep a tight seal around the edges, I pretty much ran a bead of glue around the whole circle. It is a little sloppy but the main thing is, the toy functions perfectly. Maybe leave one or two small gaps in the glue to allow easy access for a screwdriver in the event you need to fix it again sometime.
Opening the ring is not always easy. There was a lot of gluing on my product. This makes it very tedious to separate and unfortunately the ring is broken in some places.
Thanks for posting this -- we just finished repairing ours using your video as a guide. Now I'm curious about the best way to re-glue the blue rings together. About 1/4 of the little tabs broke off in the process of taking it apart. Did you run a bead of glue around the whole thing, or just spot-glue?
In case someone wondered why the hell the ring is glued and wants to replace it with something that can be screwed, here are some nice cad files to be 3d printed so you can screw it afterwards
I'd like to help if i can, but can you be more specific? When you say "one of the connectors" what do you mean exactly? What number(s) in the puzzle is it stuck near? Aside from vigorously shaking the puzzle, though, I'm not sure what alternative there is to opening it up...
Such an expensive toy requires a little more care. I paid over $90AU for Epic. If it were mine here, I'd use a sharp blade to work through the plastic lugs so as not to damage the rings, and instead of binder clips as shown here, which your fingers would hit regardless if you took off their wire, I'd use a scarce bead of silicone between the rings, and small Nalclips all the way around. These can be purchased at office supply stores. Spinmaster has a good product here, and Plasmart gave up on it too early, and failed to market these well. For instance, in AU, nobody is a distributor, and these are very expensive to buy/import = sales losses. The support for distributors, and advertizing is scarce at best. Such potential in their products, so much waste in lazy marketing.
$90! Damn that is high. I can buy it on amazon right now for $20. Overall they could have made it a bit sturdier. One drop by a child can be all it takes to snap something. Still a great toy.
Hello there from the future! It's been 12 years and just a heads up: The manufacturer of Perplexus seems to have seen this video... Mine was welded shut (ultrasonic weld perhaps?) and there is *no way to remove the ring without permanently destroying it* anymore. Very, very sad and probably a way to sell a few more of these toys instead of being able to repair them. There is literally NO reason to weld the ring shut. But they do. Just to sell a few more... So to be clear: DO NOT TRY TO OPEN THE PERPLEXUS ACCORDING TO THIS VIDEO. Chances are, you will not be able to put it back into a single unit. Sad times... 😢
The method of repair is fast. BUT KEEP YOUR EYES FROM CLIPS FLYING AWAY!!! The better way is to make holes and fix it with screws. Метод починки быстрый, НО БЕРЕГИТЕ ГЛАЗА - КЛИПСЫ СРЫВАЮТСЯ И ОТЛЕТАЮТ. Лучше просверлить дырочки и вставить винтики.
I have no idea, I'm sorry! But can't you buy a few different sizes and see which one works best? If I had to guess, I'd say the ball is about 1/8 inch diameter...maybe a little bigger.
+Team Quez Some are harder than others. It depends how much adhesive (if any) they used... you just have to be as gentle (but firm) as you can in wedging a small flat-head screw driver in between the two halves of the turquoise strip around the middle, and then twisting the screwdriver to pry it apart.
It will be easy they said. You can glue it back together they said. ...the factory slaves must have glued mine together much more than yours, the outer rings on mine are in 20 pieces.

+Rebecca Hendrix Great idea!
Why in the world the manufacturers don't "seal" them with screws instead of glue!
And thanks for the video man!
Much cheaper on their part to use glue.

Thank you so much! My youngest was devastated when she broke her brother's!! We'll be able to fix it now!!!
My cup fell off too (about a day after i got it). Thanks for the demo. I'm going to go try this and finally finish this thing!
Thank you.
I am fixing the swing bucket in my Addictaball, and this gives me some idea of what I should expect.
I'm fixing a swing bucket in my original

We just had the same piece break today. Thanks for the video!
Thanks ! Mine broke at the exact same place !!!
I will definitely attempt to fix it tonight. Thanks again for your video !
Sounds like a good idea. Thank you again...you confirmed my belief that you can truly find ANYTHING on youtube.
I have been putting this off for a while... the teter-totter in mine somehow slipped under the stopper when it got dropped...
Thanks for video, especially for advices for disassembling. My issue was stuck swing obstacle.

It might be worth designing new ring pieces which can accept tiny screws -- maybe it could be 3D printed?
I agree; but I am sure the reason is because screws cost more than plastic. I am happy the video was useful!
Thx mate, this help with my addictaball. The cup was running about freely.

Thanks for the vid. It saved my boys day!!!

Thank you for your help. my perplexus was broken
This is very helpful. Thank you😊
Glad this little video is still helping people!

I know this Is an old video, but still thank you, I fixed mine!

not a bad idea ... but I suspect you'd need six holes to keep the "halo" firmly together all the way around. Good luck!
Very helpful tutorial, I appreciate it.
Thanks for the comment. Good luck fixing it, and good luck finishing!
Soo helpful!! Thank youuu❤
I’m so glad I made this video! Thanks for the comment.

Ah yes, _"perplexus repair.mpg"_
my perplexus isnt coming apart. I have tryed prying it apart with 2 diferent kinds of screwdriver, a utility knife and a razor blade!!!
My Sharper Image Space Challenge Globe Maze can not go past 4 to 5. The white rail is in the way and will not let my ball pass. 🥺

I'm 40 and I have 2 Perplexus.
I believe the plural would be plerplexi? :)
ifutureman haha touché
I am 48, my first one will be delivered tomorrow.
The ball got stuck in one of the connectors is there any way to get it out without opening it up Plz help

Am I the only idiot who destroyed the ring completely during my attempt to remove it?

+Shane Cranor damn dude i am sorry if i misled you. the two models i have worked on both came apart and back together fairly easily.
