I’ve been doing lateral raises lying on my side for the last year. I leaned that from Doug Brignole. I used to do 30+ sets a week of standing lateral raises because I have such long arms and small middle delts. I never got sore or got any growth.
One year of doing them on my side with the tension in the stretched position (and only 3-6 sets per week), and my middle delts are the biggest they have ever been by far. They look way better at 41 years old and 205 pounds than when I was 24 and 225.

I thought I read that the studies showing the superiority of lengthened partials had the subjects using a heavier weight when compared to those doing full ROM. If that's correct, it would suggest that the amount of tension, even with reduced range of motion, is the more important component.
    Is my memory failing me?
Nonetheless, I have trouble believing that there isn't a fundamental benefit to full ROM, the most basic being the ability to safely apply high forces safely through full ROM. The shortened position is generally the "safer" portion of a lift, but I wonder if a person who biases his training to the lengthened position to an extreme degree might not be increasing injury risk is the shorter positions.

Sissy squats stretches the quads but you can’t overload it much; does this negate the benefit to stretch the quads more?

I really wonder how the combination of exercises with the main part being not the stretched position in combination with stretched isometrics would play out.

I ve satrted doing the standing cable leg extensions, they are awesome.
Great quad and hipflexors activación, it feels way better than normal seated variation, You feel your whole quads from the knee to the hips.
Also, when using cables you can do both functions of the quad, it's like kicking a ball.

28:15 on gym80 legextensions you probably get the best stretch with a very stable foundation. If you put the sit back and the footpad max back and then you have to put something behind your back.

Great podcast mate, I thought you or Eric might know the answer to this- why is it that during isolation exercises you can get a proper “burn” and pump. But doesn’t seem to happen on compound exercises.
For example, your triceps on a tricep push down compared to say a bench press?
    Thanks man.

    • @ReviveStronger
      @ReviveStronger  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks dude, so that's probably because you're isolating the muscle and so it's easier for the pump/burn to happen in an isolated region. Having said that I get a crazy pump/burn from a leg press in my quads, so I don't think it's a black and white think at all. - Steve

I’m actually doing a group project for an entrepreneurship class and we’re using my idea for a device that gives more tension in the stretched position. I may use this podcast for my “market research” segment of my presentation if that’s okay.

Its so funny that the recent strech hype is kind of rehabilitating all the memes of before like alphadestinys rack pull above the knee, croc rows or branch warrens and ronnies training styles...they all stretched muscles to the max under heavy loads

The whole over head cable tricep extensions makes sense to me...! I've supersetted them with kickbacks for years and just a few sets gives a great pump and is enough for growth on top of all the pressing. If I do more, my tris dont usually recover on time. And also I'm considering changing gyms just for this exercise, the gym I frequent have older and un-maintained cable stations with weird frictions sometimes, really throws things off. Thanks for the great content Steve.

I wish we could see Eric versus Steve head to head. They both look pretty close to each other in terms of size and muscularity. I've always wanted to see some of the TH-cam guys go head to like Layne Norton versus the Barbell Medicine guys in a powerlifting competition against each other. Both Jordan Feigenbaum and Austin Baraki have lifts that could compete against Layne Norton in powerlifting at close to the same weight. That would be fun.
