  • Perfect Green Screen Not Required!
    You've often heard that a smooth, no-wrinkle, no-crease, well & evenly lit green screen is a necessity if you don't want to spend hours and hours correcting this in post-production. Well, that's not necessarily true anymore. I'll show you how to use an imperfect green screen with Premiere Pro CC.
    Premiere Pro Quick Tips is a set of tutorial videos to help video editors-such as yourself-become more productive and creative when using Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

    Your tip is useful and informative. The old adage, Garbage in Garbage out doesn't apply so much these days but, with that said, if your green-screen stays hung for daily podcasts or whatever other reason, having a smooth green-screen still helps eliminate a lot of what you're trying to get rid of with this tip. An inexpensive steamer will remove those wrinkles and even though your backdrop may not be evenly lit, it'll be smooth. Placing sandbags, weights, soup cans, whatever on the lower edge of the material will also help pull your backdrop tight making even lighting easier still. Even stretching it tight and using pushpins into the wall can do the trick. These tips will make your technique even more effective.

    Thanks for sharing your experience with GS. Sometimes when we hear how we should have a perfect, wrinkle-free, evenly-lighted green screen, it becomes depressing because no matter how hard we try, we home content creators never quite measure up. Three other things I have found that help: 1) the pedestal effect can really help blacken the background by pushing it up to 80-95 percent, 2) It can really help to have a light over and behind our head which will give our hair definition and not cause us to have a "wavy head," and 3) Strangely, I have found that by reducing the contrast of our video and then applying the ultra key effect, I get a better key. After the ultra key effect is applied I go back and add contrast to my video. This sounds sorta counter-intuitive, but it works for me.

    I know you made this years ago but I need you to know how much it is still helping people. During Covid, I decided to start 2 TH-cam channels - I had always wanted to do it. I am completely self-taught in regards to hardware and software I'm using, and this tutorial helped me SO much. Thank you for making this video and I hope you are doing well.

      Literally fuck.. i was so mad for the left overs. It was due to few wrinkles on the green screen. I was about get a new green screen. Then I saw your video. Fuck. Literally fuck..
      it is so good to see this, i wish i would have seen earlier. Also, despite highlighting, left over can be erased by increasing contrast, and mid points as well.

    @Martin Ask Eriksen: Thanks for you comments. I agree. That's why I say in the video that a perfect screen is not necessarily required. It's all context-sensitive based on what your content is. And yes, this is the use of Ultra Key. For those that are new to Premiere, Adobe bought "Ultra" from a company called, "Serious Magic" quite some time ago. Other Premiere Pro chroma-keying tools include RedGiant's "Key Correct" and PHYX's "Keyer".

    • @MertBert
      @MertBert 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just think your description promises something else than showing a well-known key plugin : )
      I guess I was looking for something more advanced when you wrote "Well, that's not necessarily true anymore." - like you`ve discovered something ground-breaking, but you`re showing a plug-in that`s existed since version 5.0.
      Still a good video for beginners getting into keying!

    Needed a bit more for my "failed" recording, and even then still a bit of masking, but using aggressive and highlight helped a lot. Always tweaked it manually before, and highlight never did a lot (probably because it's the second one in the list and I never revisited it), but with aggressive already in place highlight actually did quite a bit. Thanks!
