Juneteenth Story & Craft

Join us in celebration of Juneteenth, a holiday that celebrates the emancipation of enslaved Africans in the United States. The holiday celebrates the anniversary of June 19, 1865, when General Granger read General Order 3, informing the people of Texas that all slaves were free. This announcement notably came more than 2 years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation.
We will also be hosting a Juneteenth storytime and craft with Seleene Lewis-Wong on Thursday, June 17 at 4:00 PM. Join us for a reading of Juneteenth for Mazie (written and illustrated by Floyd Cooper) and make a craft, outside in the children's reading garden. No registration necessary.
