Thanks for watching! I've made three accompanying documents: a 'cheat sheet' that summarizes everything in this video, a 'tune list' that has 300+ tuning setups for a variety of cars, and a spreadsheet that shows every car's hidden stats (weight distributions, grip modifiers, tyre dimensions etc.). Cheat Sheet: docs.google.com/document/d/10mhPkPcvtET5pGUwy7YTL6pPjPqKUMwZm9MZ3CgnHKE/edit?usp=sharing Tune List: docs.google.com/document/d/1ClCpRVUgQrDWdh-e78sgTnxZbvdxWgrRWDcuYcg-U_8/edit?usp=sharing Car Data Summary Spreadsheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DtAPfe5YhuQ4p1mdoPcVAMF5NzzpZ7Jb0Q0gUpl1sEQ/edit?pli=1&gid=362094050#gid=362094050 Some extra notes: - For those playing the Spec II mod: most cars now come equipped with road tyres, so upgrade to sports softs ASAP. The Impreza Spec C was nerfed heavily and is no longer the best option for dirt/snow events. The best early-game events for credits grinding are now the Camaro and TT one-makes. A bug-eye Impreza rally car can now be obtained from the Stars of Pleiades one-make. Deutsche Touring Car Meisterschaft now gives the Audi R8, making it the easiest way to obtain a car for GTWC. Use the Abt Audi TT-R from the TT one-make. The Motor Sport Elise was insanely buffed, and it can be obtained easily if you start with the Cappuccino and follow the route of Suzuki K-Car -> Spider & Roadster -> British Lightweight -> Elise Trophy. A full list of car changes in Spec II can be found in the spreadsheet linked above. - The '95 EA21R Cappuccino has slightly more torque and better acceleration than the '91 EA11R. If you can find the EA21R for 5,102 credits, go for that instead, but otherwise, the EA11R is better value. - The races at Tsukuba can be extremely difficult if there's a Cappuccino EA21R in pole, as it can build a huge lead. Exit and re-enter until it's further down the line-up, or buy a racing chip to make the race easier. - When buying a used Impreza, try to go for the Ver. V, Ver. VI, or the bug-eyes. The older Impreza's have much worse grip modifiers, on top of having less power. The Spec C from the Subaru dealership has the most grip by far of any Impreza, so it's worth saving up for. - Downforce does not increase tyre wear in 95% of scenarios. In fact, it usually reduces it, since the extra grip causes the tyres to slide around less. The only situation when it can potentially increase tyre wear is due to a bug in the game's physics that causes lightweight cars with large tyres and high downforce to stutter at high speeds. This is most noticeable on PAL due to 50 FPS. Even then though, high downforce is still worth it. - There can be situations where you don't want max downforce. For lightweight MR's, setting the front downforce to 30 can make the car feel very unbalanced when braking into corners. If the car loses grip too easily and nosedives while entering corners, try lowering the front downforce. Some rear-heavy cars like the Alpine A310 work best with 0 / 30 downforce. El Capitan is a good choice for testing downforce settings due to its many elevation changes. Meanwhile, many FF's and 4WD's will understeer less with reduced rear downforce. 30 / 10 is a good starting point for FF's. - My explanation of camber was very over-simplified. Front camber, on top of increasing front wheel grip, also increases the car's corner entry and braking stability. It causes understeer if set too high. Rear camber increases grip mid-corner, preventing loss of speed from skids. Setting it too high will make the car feel planted. Generally, most cars work well between a range of 1.4 to 2.0. - On NTSC-U, when doing the B-spec training route shown in this guide, you need to buy the stage 4 turbo instead of the stage 3 for the 350Z Concept LM. The Fairlady Z LM in PAL and NTSC-J gets much more power from its turbo upgrades than NTSC-U's 350Z counterpart, and the stage 3 isn't enough to bump it from D1 to D2. - The main reason why the 206 RC and Suzuki Concept-S2 wheelspin so much on corner exit is because they don't have an LSD equipped stock. Equipping the 1-way LSD is a cost-effective way to greatly improve their corner exit traction. I've updated the tunes in the cheat sheet to take this into account. - I also added a tune for the Formula Gran Turismo to the cheat sheet, it's in the Other Tunes section. Like with my LMP tunes, it runs the softest springs and highest heights possible for the smoothest ride on bumpy tracks, with a lowered front downforce for better stability. Removing the toe-out and lengthening the gears with the gear trick will greatly reduce rear tyre wear. It's also immune to rigidity or engine wear. - Hard sports tyres are almost never worth it, even in endurances. The grip decrease is so large and the durability increase is so small, that they end up wearing just as fast as mediums because the car skids and loses traction much more often. I suggest using mediums instead, particularly for the El Capitan 200 Miles endurance. - I added some 'endurance tunes' to the cheat sheet. These are basically optimised builds for B-spec'ing endurances. The Suzuki GSX-R/4 is one of the best cars to use in endurances, as it's extremely lightweight and has very high grip. The Motul Pitwork Z excels in most other endurances thanks to its 50 / 70 downforce, 51 : 49 weight distribution, wide tyres and high grip, while the Minolta 88C-V is ideal for Sarthe, Fuji and Super Speedway. - The Audi R8 has better grip and cornering ability than the Pescarolo's, and generally feels nicer to drive. However, the Pesca Judd wears its rear tyres less quickly, which makes it well-suited for the Sarthe endurances. - Qualifying (or "practice" as it's called in-game) will make many championships much easier, particularly the Hong Kong and Opera Paris races in GTWC. You can also exit before starting a championship race to either go to GT Auto for an oil change, or to the garage to save your game. Don't exit and re-enter after qualifying though, as it'll reset and you'll need to qualify again. - On some versions, the game's completion percentage can get messed up if you do the missions in a random order. It's believed that, in early versions of NTSC-U, Mission 1 always needs to be completed first to avoid this issue. Make sure to start with Mission 1 to be on the safe side. - GT4 Online (the version used by the randomizer/Spec II mods) has unusual AI behaviour in many events, especially Mission 23. The AI cars are extremely random and will slow down or crash into walls unpredictably. There isn't much advice I can give for completing this mission, other than to persevere and get the lucky run where the AI co-operates.
Thank you! This is exactly what I was about to ask for. Great work! I'm replaying GT4 (on PCSX2) for the first time in over 15 years and I need this. This time with a proper wheel and cockpit setup and it's sooo much better this way.
Hi, quick question. When the guide says for Dampers: "Stiff front for corner entry understeer / corner exit oversteer." Does this mean to prevent these things or to cause these things?
@@CaptJackAubreyOfTheRoyalNavy it's to cause them. Setting the front and rear dampers to, say, 6 / 2, sets the bounds to 6 / 2 and rebounds to 6 / 2. When entering corners, the front bound and rear rebound come into play, and since the front bound (6) is stiffer than the rear rebound (2), the car will be more likely to understeer. Hope that makes sense. Edit: I see my wording in the cheat sheet wasn't very clear, I just changed it there. Thanks for raising it.
Oh, no. I have a 15 year old save file at 63% completion. I'm not sure if I'll ever hit 100, but if I do it'll be on this save. The missions are done in a random order. Yikers.
I've been playing Gran Turismo 4 since it came out, yet you managed to cover stuff that I was unaware of such as the impact of mileage and rigidity on the car's performance, thank you!
@@purwantiallan5089 but 48% of them are the same just with a different name xD I mean, man this game has like 69 different miatas which could easy been at max 4 or 5 different ones xD
My nine year old myself is crying for happiness. Thank you for make this masterpiece. When I was young i don't understand english, and doesn't understand what to do, so i only play arcade mode. (i'm from Hungary). Nowadays I try GT4 again but it's still hard for me. With this guide i try to finish the game first time on my life!
Gosh man that intro gave me goosebumps. Reminded me on why this is still my favorite racing game of all time. Thank you for this guide. Makes me like the game a ton more.
You can literally play the game today and on better hardware too, I don't see the issue. GT4 isn't a live service, it's a masterpiece that can always be revisited.
This was the pinnacle of gaming for those back in the day, utterly brilliant game and well beyond its years at the time. I’m 32 now this had me dreaming of owning some of these cars and many years later I have owned some of the cars I wished I had back then , incredible nostalgia here
I am somewhat close to my gt4 dream car, it has not the 550HP and it is not the VR6 engine in it, but i am a very happy owner of a mk4 Golf with an neckbreaking 150HP 1.9TDI under the bonet xD Not quite the HPA Motorsports one, but man am i happy haha. Can't imagine ever beeing able to drive and have the Nismo Skyline GT-R S-tune or the Calsonic Skyline GT-R, so i stick to the reachable :D
I just managed to buy a computer monitor, buy an HDMI AV convertor, dig up the PS2 and started a new GT4 save. Been years since I last played. The best game of all time for me, and watching this guide brought back many memories, but also learned a few new things along the way. Best game guide I've ever seen. Very detailed and easy to understand at the same time. Well done my friend :)
The intro made me cry. I've been playing GT games for pretty much my entire life, starting with GT2 and playing every main GT title up until GT7 (except GT1 and GT3) so hearing the remixed Moon Over The Castle and the mashup of replays during the intro got me feeling really emotional. The intro is about as perfect as the guide itself. Absolutely spectacular work 11/10. Would recommend this guide to anyone looking to pick up GT4.
That's a big compliment, thank you! Glad to hear the intro resonated with you; my music taste is quite sentimental and melancholic, and I guess it carries over to my productions as well. I wanted to showcase GT4's emphasis on classic cars and the progress of car manufacturing towards the legends we all know and love, as the music built up in the background.
Jesus, the dedication! I have also seen the Doc-Files you have made. I'm so happy to start playing this game with resources like these! Seriously, you have my respect. You clearly love this game very much. Thanks for your hard work and dedication to this beloved game!
I play GT4 since 2006 (I was 4 years old, playing with my dad) now, after hundreds of hours and 17 years later, i'm on a quest to achieve 100%. GT4 was a huge part of my life and it's my favourite game, i love watching these guides and the community keeping the game alive. Thanks!
Just wanted to say that I was struggling with my International-A license and bought the Mercedes they give you to get a feeling of the car. Then, I kind of liked the Nurburgring race. Yesterday, I was refining suspension of my favorite cars with it, today I recognized almost every part of the intro you made. Great job!
In the opening scenes, the shot of the Ford GT going down the long straight is just amazing. Can’t imagine the amount of effort that went into this video. Incredible work
Some of the replay camera angles are fantastic yeah, you can tell a lot of thought was put into them, especially on the 'Ring. The GT games up to this point always had very cinematic replays, but they really went all-in for GT4, alongside adding the ability to take photos. Thank you! It indeed took quite a bit of research and testing to put it all together, but I feel it was definitely worth it.
@@TeaKanji the somehow sad thing with this is that they somehow managed to get this car and camerastuff so goddamn beatifull pieces of art in the newer games but forgot how to make the games be masterpieces :'( I have so much to complain about gt sport and Gt7 man, i almost feel bad about that.
I've never played this game, but the chill tunes, excellent explanations, thorough details, and nice editing had me enraptured all the way through. Definitely need to pick it up eventually.
Glad to hear you found it interesting! Thankfully the game should be very easy to find if you're looking for a physical copy, or if all else fails, PS2 emulation is in a great state right now, using Silentwarrior's UI retextures and Silent's patches for better visuals.
Thank you so much for this video! My dad and I used to play this game when I was 8 in our home country (he was the only who actually played while I sat watching him play) and got the game to 40%ish done. We left our country when I was 11. Fast forward 6 years I was able to ship my ps2 with the memory card to the states! Not too long ago I bought a GT4 copy and I’m at 70% done. For me this game brings good childhood memories of those late nights my father and I used to share. Thank you so much for this guide! My goal is to finish 100% while my dad watches me finish what he started
I didn’t like gt as a young kid a preferred more arcade racers(underground 2 was and still is my fav). I kept my ps2 till now when I’m 22 and I remembered I have gt3 and gave it another chance and I’m blown away. Your guide on gt3 was immensely helpful and now i found gt4 for 12$ and this guide is even better, Thank you.
After years of absence this game alone was responsible for sparking my interest in racing games again. For a long time the only game I played on my used PS2.
I only recently got into Gran Turismo, last March that is, but your guides on GT2 and GT3 made the games so much more enjoyable and helped me get through a difficult time. Got GT4 running yesterday and I'll be watching this again for help. Highly appreciate the effort which you put into these guides and thank you for making me experience happiness again ❤
Everytime i hear "Panama" remembers me the US intro with the tagline: "The drive of your life" and boy, this makes me a bit emotional.. This game taught me a little about tuning cars, making them faster and driving real hard on a game. i got so many memories from GT4 that if i say to someone that doesn't know games thinks i'm a real racing car driver. One of the coolest memories i saved on a replay: i did an entire lap in Sonoma raceway drifting in an used '91 Lexus (just for fun). Someday i will post all my good memories (replays) on my TH-cam channel!
Thank you so much for this. I've just got into the game and was struggling a lot to win events, in great part because I'm a horrible driver. Putting the rear wing, which I previously assumed to be completely cosmetic, on my little Honda Beat and maxing the downforce suddenly turned it into the fastest cornering car on the track, skyrocketing my progress.
Really good guide. I used to play this game a long time ago for fun. I never knew how deep the customization of the car goes. I learn a few new things from this guide.
Bro, can you read this? THIS GUIDE IS THE BEST THING BEEN CREATED IN THIS WORLD. Please, i know this request is to much but could you translate to spanish? This is gold bro
I recently got into racing games and am playing this for the first time. So far ive been using the cars i think look cool (crx ballade and the integra type r) but ive been aimless in what to upgrade/how to go about things. This has been super helpful
Knew a thing here and there but never knew that the used cars looped, or that the customizable parts gave such huge differences to handling, thanks for the guide
Good job on this one! Thanks to you, I was finally able to win the GT championship.. but still, really well made guide on basically every important thing! Keep it up my dude :)
@@TeaKanji Hey, i have been practicing manual transmission for about 2 days now, and would like you to recommend a good car for me to practice more in. I have currently been practicing in the Saleen S7, but a bit of variety would be appreciated!
Ah, sorry, I completely missed your reply somehow. It's probably too late, but something that wheelspins easily in 1st and/or 2nd gear (eg. an LMP with a stock gearbox) can teach you when to keep the car in a high gear.
That opening music reminds me of first launching GT4 with my grandma next to me in 2009 and watching the cinematic before racing her, she went for Citroen C5 because all cars shes ever had were Citroens. Miss her. Thank you for the video. And now lets watch everything after the intro.......
Glad I was able to bring back some pleasant memories, it's nice hearing how everyone had their own unique experiences with these games. Hope you enjoyed the guide!
For mission 34, I tend not to do the in race cheesing like cutting grass and wall riding. If you're playing on an emulator and you're desperate for the win just save state after every successful section. Basicslly turns the whole thing into a giant series of license tests. Not as satisfying and you're still cheating but at least you technically did the entire thing without looking "dirty" (not that it matters)
Yeah, that's fair. Save stating after completing a section decently well was how I practiced for the guide so I could record footage and explain how to tackle each section. I figured I'd show the cheese strats anyway and let the viewer decide if they want to drive clean or not. On PAL the mission is definitely very winnable with a somewhat clean run with no cheesing, but for NTSC-U it's a much bigger commitment.
Thank you! It's surprising how deep this game is. I spent a good week or so trying to figure out all of the B-spec stuff once I discovered the Japanese author's blog posts. People have spent months, maybe even years figuring out some of this info, and I'm glad to be able to give it all a platform.
@@TeaKanji I especially love that a game made 18 years ago is still so relevant, fun and interesting to explore, it really shows how well made it is, they really made a great piece of work that people will love for a really long time. I was genuinely amazed by how long and deep is the endgame, I actually never knew there was F1 races in the game at all! Last time I felt hyped like this about discovering stuff about a game was when I was a child.
I got gold on everything three times (besides the endurance races) when this first came out. I do not need a guide, but i am here for it! The switch has no good racing games (physical, i don't do digital games) so i have been itching for a game like this, and the others in the series don't compare.
In an emulator, you can map the L2 and R2 triggers on your controller to Right Thumbstick Down and Up respectively, to have built in analog gas and brake functionality with the triggers on newer controllers.
This is incredible. I don't even have the game installed anywhere lol i just saw it came today nearly 20 years ago on the ps2 and i always wanted to play it. Maybe i will soon. Thank you for the guide, it is incredibly detailed, like those game guide magazines lol
Thank you! I'd say it's just as good now as it was back then. Even though racing games have since become more realistic, the PS1 / PS2 GT games still have a 'timeless' vibe to them. Hope the guide helps out!
There's a new thing I discovered about Lineup Re-Rolling in GT4 (and GT3 and 5 as well). The lineup isn't entirely random. If you boot up your PS2/Emulator, and go to an event like, say GTWC, as the very first thing, it will be the exact same lineup every time. And the same goes for every following re-roll. If however, the first event you choose is different, and then go to GTWC, it will either be a brand new lineup or the same as before just with the initial one skipped. Sorry if the wording is confusing, there are a whole lot of intricacies with this mechanic and even with my testing I'm still not fully aware of how it all works,. However, there's one important trick you can do with this knowledge can massively reduce the number of times re-rolling to get an easier lineup. This works on NTSC-U. I don't know if it'll work on PAL/NTSC-J because all versions have different car lineups. Regardless, It goes like this: -Buy a car you want that's competitive, make sure to equip sports tires and all other upgrades. Let's use the Viper GTS-R as an example (could you imagine how I got this idea?) -Tune the car to your liking and then save the game. Reset the console. -Go to El Capitan 200 Miles, and exit. -Go to GTWC and enter and exit 2 times. Once you enter it for a 3rd time, you'll find a lineup that consists of the Gillet, R390 GT1,Toyota 7, Camaro LM and CLK GTR. This is very doable for the Viper and more. If you don't have Endurance races unlocked by this point, you can instead go to Sunday Cup first and you just have to re roll 2 more times.
thanks, help me out a lot, i've play this game when i was young and i didin't understand anything at all, but thanks to the video i'm playing the game again and enjoying, i hope someone in the community make a portuguese version of the video, because there a lot of information on tunning that i can't understand
Glad to hear! It would be nice to have captions in other languages at some point yeah, I'll think about it. Perhaps you could be able to copy-paste the tuning section of the cheat sheet into a translator, it won't be 100% accurate but maybe it'd help explain some things. My most recent video on fixing understeer goes into much more detail on tuning with better video examples if you want to dive deeper into tuning.
@@TeaKanji sure, i've been watching the video, deep tuning in this game is very hard, because you need to change something, then test, change something, then change, and it goes. It's hard to me to make the car different and understand how tuning impact the car at specific points, for example: i want to drive in rally without difting and sliding, but i simply can't because i need to understand all this stuff, and man. i've been loving this, that guide make me want to play the game, before this guide, game was so boring, after this, i really want to play (now i have 71 hours of gameplay), so thanks at all, i'm stay tunned in channel to see new stuff
I played the game when i was like 12 years old i think and it took me like 7 years to beat the game (of course with big gaps of not playing it specially since my -pirated- disc got scratched and couldn't play anymore until i bought a new game after years, also my english skills weren't that good as today so couldn't understand too much besides some basic stuff like car restrictions and other things) and i have never been that deep into tunning and or with almost no knowledge in cars in general and still could beat the game without any of this, that's what i love about the game, is fun to both experienced and very hard fans of cars and to casual players, the game really encourage to choose any path you want depending in your skills, i actually started a new file some months ago with my new skills in driving but i'm still very ignorant in tunning except for some basics but i'm taking my time and i find funny how easy for me are licenses now unlike when i first played the game, i really love this game and these kind of guides are very useful to not only beginners but for those who wants to play the game again after many years.
Thanks for sharing your story, glad you appreciated the guide! Definitely agree that GT4 can be appreciated both on a surface level, or on a much deeper and more challenging one, depending on the player's knowledge and choices.
You are my hero and my curiosity for the Gran Turismo saga Just skyrocket after I see your videos! Just one little question maybe in the future can you make a little video to understand how in 2023 a noob can install GT6 on a PS3 without losing is mind and soul. I know that the process of updating is a mess but it's the 4th time that I uninstall the game data and repeat everything. Thanks and keep with the good work!!
Thank you, glad you're enjoying them! Hmm, I feel like I'd rather make a full video about GT6 rather than just a short one about the update issue, but you're right, it is a bit annoying. From what I've heard, the best way to do it is by doing five updates, entering the game and exiting, then doing another five updates and repeating until all are installed.
Man i love this game, started playing again after years and its just so good, im not even a car guy, I enjoy this game because its such a great 'rpg' esque game lol
This video right here should have been a pack in DVD special when the game shipped and ALL simcades that include turning need this type of video to get people more into their game. After 18 years + of playing GT4 casually (yet never even finishing the game, 2% completion everytime ) a video like this actually let's you appreciate the full scope of what the game is doing especially cause without tuning enjoying the GT physics engine is a crapshoot between enjoying your favourite car vs enjoying the physics model for that car, but tuning and understanding it can make the game way more enjoyable
one good tip, if you are emulating is to bind one trigger to left analog up or down for throttle or break, and bind the other trigger for the opposite on the other stick, this way you get good throttle control with your triggers, and since each trigger is bound to a different stick, you can separate throttle and break which really helps with rally and throttle blipping on a controller.
then just use left analog up and down for throttle and break, it will bind both the left and right sticks so you can just use a separate controller profile for gran turismo
Your explanation doesn't make sense. Am I right in saying you map acceleration to left analog stick up, brake to left analog stick down, then in PCSX2 you map the left analog stick to L2 and R2? Right analog stick up and down are already mapped to acceleration and brake in-game, can't you just map L2 and R2 to those and use the left analog stick for turning? What's wrong with using L2 and R2 normally and using Silent's adjusted sensitivity codes like I explain at 3:49?
no, map your right trigger to right analog up for throttle, and left trigger, to left analog down for brake, this way, you can use throttle and break at the same time, rather than having them bound to just a single analog stick and having to switch between throttle and break constantly, also, dont use silents trigger patch, its no good, barely changes anything sensitivity wise for L2 and R2 and it corrupted a 5 year old save of mine last week, hence why im doing the old gran turismo 2 throttle trick, but with gran turismo 4, add me on discord and ill send a screenshot of my config, in emu and in game if that will help you understand a little better, as it kind of is hard to explain without showing, i may even make a youtube video showing how to do it.
@@TeaKanji and thanks to the QT build of PCSX2, you can just make a profile for gran turismo and load it every time you want to do some racing, this config should work for enthusia and extreme racer drift as well
Okay, I understand now, I got it to work. This was the process: 1: in-game, map acceleration to R2 and brake to left analog stick down (I tried setting acceleration to NONE but that made the accelerator stutter, so I had to map it to something for it to work). 2: in PCSX2 QT nightly, open the controller settings, click New Profile in the bottom-left, name it something, then say yes to copy all settings from the current profile. 3: unset L2 and R2 so nothing is mapped to them, then set left trigger to left analog stick down and right trigger to right analog stick up. 4: right click on GT4 in the games list, click Properties, then set the Input Profile to the new profile you made. Doing this seems to let you go below half-throttle much more easily than with default settings, or with Silent's patch. I don't know though, this is still a pretty complicated work-around, I've rarely needed to go below half-throttle on most cars while driving with analog controls. I also asked in Silent's support channel how the patch may have corrupted your save file and they had no idea, it was very likely something else like PCSX2 rounding. First time any of us have heard of it causing any issues. I'll leave this explanation here though if anyone wants to try it for themselves and see if they prefer it to regular L2/R2 controls.
Wonderful video about a wonderful game. Don't think there is any better guide videos for the entire gt series than yours. Hats off to you. I do want to point out something that might effect others as well that I don't think your guide covers. With the B-spec griding, NTSC-J and PAL versions have the fairlady z concept lm car while NTSC-U has the 350 z concept car. Turns out these cars actually have different stats despite being the same car, so if you are on NTSC-U and follow the guide your car cannot actually get subclass d2 points. Luckily you can equip a stage 4 turbo instead of a stage 3 and it looks like that solves the issue. Otherwise I'm sure there are other cars you can use for d2 points but I thought I should say something in case anyone was playing on ntsc-u and coming up with that problem. Otherwise incredible guide!
Thank you for the kind words! Oh no, that isn't good, I must have missed that by testing on PAL instead of NTSC-U. If it's just a small difference, maybe an oil change would be enough to bump it up from D1 to D2, but I'd need to test that and make sure. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, I'll put it in the pinned comment once I get to the bottom of it.
@@TeaKanji Yeah no problem, I decided to try and max out b spec until I ran into that problem. Checked the gran turismo wiki and yeah the ntcs-u version has 110 less horsepower than the pal and ntcs-j versions, funny how that is lol. As far as I can tell stock and stage 3 leaves it in the d1 range while a stage 4 turbo bumps it up to d2 range with everything else the same. I've heard the clk touring car can work for d1-d2 with a 3rd and 4th turbo respectively and as well as being a relatively simple car to obtain as a alternative? Regardless figured I should share, otherwise awesome job on this video and rest of your gran turismo 1-3 guides as well 👍
@@Sonikman103 Yep, tested it on NTSC-U and I see now, weird how the 350Z LM gets much less power from turbo upgrades than the Fairlady Z LM. My bad for missing that, I didn't realize there was a region difference. I added it to the pinned comment and edited the route in the cheat sheet, thanks again and glad you enjoyed the other guides too!
I personally do all the license tests from B to IA first, use the Nismo that you get as a reward for the IA license to get the Toyota RSC rally car that you can sell for 250k, then buy the car of my choice.
I mean, it's your choice, but spending 2 - 3 hours doing all the licences at the start is a bit unnecessary IMO. If you want to get to Capri Rally Easy as quickly as possible, you can just get the B and A licences, buy the Lancer Evo I and an oil change, use it to win the RSC, then buy whatever you want to buy. You can enter 80% of the Beginner and Professional events with just those two licences, so there's no rush to get I-B and I-A.
I like how when I first tried gt2 I picked a car based on looks and I thought the supra looked good and it was op of course and I also somehow pick the Chevy z28 before learning anything about gt4. I seem to have a good record with early random car buys as I have literally no idea what I'm doing, I'm a Sega arcade racer person lol.
Hehe, there was indeed a lot of B-spec'ing around Test Course to get the mileage to that point. It's funny, it's actually a strat used by 200 A-spec hunters, because it reduces the car's power for more points. Glad you found the guide interesting by the way!
Bought a Fat PS2 with 3 memory cards, 3 controllers and GT1-4 along with auto modellista and enthusia, I am in love. I have not played these games ever but I wonder how they manage to pull me in like nothing coming out nowadays.
Good to hear you're enjoying them! I guess what makes the PS1 / PS2 era GT games stand out is that they're very self-contained (before a time when you could ship 80% or less on day 1 and bring out the rest later through updates and DLC). IMO they had a very focused vibe and feel (even if GT1's was kind of accidental with its music differences between Japanese and Western releases) while also raising the bar in terms of content and presentation. Basically a perfect balance of style and substance. The depth was there, but it wasn't essential to enjoying the game on a surface level. Of course, it's hard to be objective about early GT because I'm very nostalgic for these games, but a lot of people feel the same way. I enjoyed GT Sport back in 2018-19, haven't played 7, though I felt like they were borrowing existing 'vibes' (the French lounge of Hotel Costes and Stephane Pompougnac, whatever Lenny Ibizarre can be classified as etc.) instead of bringing something new to the table. I see a growing amount of people becoming disillusioned with modern racing games, and I think it's a fantastic opportunity to look back and see how complete GT1 through GT4 were as gaming experiences.
Couldnt have said it better. If I tried, it would just turn into "old man yells at the sky for no particular reason" but I am just like that. Have you considered doing voice over content? I mean obviously you are choosing this narration style for a good reason but I think it would really add to the content if you did voice overs. Great content anyway, I just wanted to throw this in.
@@baccarah7010 Hehe, I worry that I come across the same way sometimes. I've definitely thought about doing voiceovers yeah, but I'm very self-conscious about my voice and I've noticed how one's tone of voice can make or break content for a lot of other TH-camrs. As well, whenever I watch voiceover content myself, I tend to zone out as it becomes background noise while I'm doing other things. I find that with text overlays, it forces me to be as concise as possible with my script, while also making sure I don't come off as biased or over-enthusiastic or whatnot. Basically I let the viewer interpret the text on the screen however they want, using the voice inside their head instead of my own. I might switch over at some point depending on the content I end up making though, we'll see. Glad you're enjoying the videos!
Ah, the red loading screen clock. That's one thing I don't miss about playing on console vs. emulator, the constant fear of losing all your progress since your last save. There's a blue clock that can appear as well if you're modding the game and something is misconfigured.
@@TeaKanji blue? Never saw that, played on console. Still miss the endurance races, back in the days, I paused the console to take breaks and leave a postIt written "DON'T TOUCH". Dont ask the story behind that one 😔
The best first car to buy might be the used Civic type R, because with that you can beat Honda's one-make Civic races, and the prize is a Civic '87 race car that you can sell for 93,000$. And you can do that over and over again. It's the quickest way to make money when you begin, because the races are only 2 laps.
Awesome, now I can barely be able to drive competently in this game in style. I do love this game, but it is extremely unforgiving and I've never been good at precision steering with a controller.
I’ve been wishing to play gt4 for a long time now, even though I don’t have ps2, I reckon I’ll use an emulator. This guide has certainly helped me. Thank you!! And btw, which emulator do you recommend using for the game?
Glad to hear! I'd recommend PCSX2 1.7 (the "nightly" build), as it has a better UI and more compatibility than the 1.6 stable version. Rowdy has a good guide on his channel for setting it up if you need help. Have fun.
17:09 So I believe to have encountered an interesting bug regarding the wing. I remember using a maxed out 22B for the Supercar Festival with a 30/30 wing for the Seoul just because braking sucked, but took it off for the next race looking for more challenge (and because they are ugly compared to the stock 22B wing 😅). Interestingly though, the A-Spec points suggested that the car still had 30/30 downforce despite removing the wing, and the car sure drove like it still had the wing. However the aero values on that tuning screen were blank until I reinstalled a wing, revealing they were at 30/30 again. So I wonder if you could install a wing, set the downforce to the desired values, then remove the wing to preserve the car's look while having the benefits of downforce from the wing?
if you do a tutorial for Forza Motorsport 4 My only suggestion is: Pick a starting car Don't go into career mode, instead do the Subcompact event list Buy 80's[?] Camero (it's the one that's like 204 rating, E-class] put on spoiler + front end aero, and then put on 'boots' [heavy rims - there's a brand that starts with L that offers the heaviest rims possible, they're quite solid and look kinda like dinner plates], this will drop the car below 200 max for F-Class enjoy breaking the F-class races
Thank you so much for putting all of this together. I've been having a blast playing GT3 and 4 using your tips. Will you be making a handbook for GT4 like you did with GT3? Thanks!
Glad the guides have been helping out! At some point I might; I had tried starting to write one while I was researching, but I ended up scrapping most of it as it was either unnecessary or re-hashing things I already said in the GT3 handbook. The Impreza Spec C tuning guide was the only thing that I made public as I felt like it was too important not to share. Is there any sections or topics you'd like to see in written format?
@@TeaKanji it was just very nice to have a guide to refer to while going through the game vs going to the video and trying to find the sections where you give tuning tips on specific cars etc.
Yeah, that makes sense. I guess I should probably make a doc with the tunes I showed for the Speedster, 206, Corvette etc. and leave it in the description so people don't have to scroll through the video in the meantime. I hope the video chapters get fixed eventually, I don't understand why they're not working, they appear fine for me in TH-cam Studio and in Google search results.
Cheat Sheet: docs.google.com/document/d/10mhPkPcvtET5pGUwy7YTL6pPjPqKUMwZm9MZ3CgnHKE/edit?usp=sharing
Tune List: docs.google.com/document/d/1ClCpRVUgQrDWdh-e78sgTnxZbvdxWgrRWDcuYcg-U_8/edit?usp=sharing
Car Data Summary Spreadsheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DtAPfe5YhuQ4p1mdoPcVAMF5NzzpZ7Jb0Q0gUpl1sEQ/edit?pli=1&gid=362094050#gid=362094050
Some extra notes:
- For those playing the Spec II mod: most cars now come equipped with road tyres, so upgrade to sports softs ASAP.
There isn't much advice I can give for completing this mission, other than to persevere and get the lucky run where the AI co-operates.
it's alright

You can literally play the game today and on better hardware too, I don't see the issue. GT4 isn't a live service, it's a masterpiece that can always be revisited.
This video has single-handedly improved nearly everything for me about Gran Turismo 4. An absolute must-watch if you want to get better at this game!
Glad to hear, thanks for the testimonial!
This guide is like a gold mine. Like you learn for real how to play this masterpiece of a game. Thanks!
Thank you, happy to help!
This was the pinnacle of gaming for those back in the day, utterly brilliant game and well beyond its years at the time. I’m 32 now this had me dreaming of owning some of these cars and many years later I have owned some of the cars I wished I had back then , incredible nostalgia here
I am somewhat close to my gt4 dream car, it has not the 550HP and it is not the VR6 engine in it, but i am a very happy owner of a mk4 Golf with an neckbreaking 150HP 1.9TDI under the bonet xD Not quite the HPA Motorsports one, but man am i happy haha. little tidbit for automatic trans users. holding the upshift button (r2) if i remember correctly will hold the gear
Thank you, glad it helped out!
Fantastic guide as always. You got me into GT and racing as a whole. Cheers
Thank you, glad I was able to help!
Thanks!
This is a really, REALLY good and comprehensive guide. You give tips that I didn't even know after playing this a lot every year for 18 years
Just wanted to say that I was struggling with my International-A license and bought the Mercedes they give you to get a feeling of the car.
@@TeaKanji When I finally get gt4 working on pcsx2 I'll definitely be referring back to this
@@TeaKanji the somehow sad thing with this is that they somehow managed to get this car and camerastuff so goddamn beatifull pieces of art in the newer games but forgot how to make the games be masterpieces :'( I have so much to complain about gt sport and Gt7 man, i almost feel bad about that.

Coming from your GT3 guide, just wanna say was very surprised by the depth of it and learnt quite a lot. Looking forward to this one.
Nice one, hope this one is interesting also!
Please continue with gt 5 6 and 7, your guides are a major help really detailed. Loved the video
Also props for the music, you good
Thank you so much for this video! Nice one, thank you for the kind words! Hope the guide helps out.

This is top-tier content. Appreciate the time you spent to make this!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed!
Incredible work. Never knew this game was so complete and detailed
After Gran Turismo 4 Spec II release, I need to visit this guide again. Let's gooo!! ✊🏻
Putting the rear wing, which I previously assumed to be completely cosmetic, on my little Honda Beat and maxing the downforce suddenly turned it into the fastest cornering car on the track, skyrocketing my progress.
fantastic guide that might finally make me want to play gran turismo 4 to the end
i love your guides. I wish you could remake this guide but with your voice it so I can listen to it like a podcast. keep up the great work!
Thanks for this. We talked at GT Planet a few years back.
OMG!! This is brutal !! You. Know all about the game!! Best guide that I see in Life!!! Nice Job

A masterpiece of gaming from a time before DLC, microtransactions, day1 patch, multi GB patches, live service etc.

@@TeaKanji ill actually watch it in parts, just got the emulator and want to replay the game as if its 2009 again!! So ill.make use of those
This is top tier! Been playing gt4 since its release and i learned many things still!
When I was 7y/io and first played this game when it came out, I was truly fascinated. Now it's the same thing
Thank you so much for the amount of love and work put into this
Happy to help, glad you appreciated it!
@@TeaKanji I'm really impressed by your video, I've have this game for years and thanks to this I now know more than ever about it it's so cool :)
This video is a masterpiece!
This is my childhood game, thanks for bringing me back some memories that im grateful for.
Thats amazing you just wrote down the the lore of the GT4!! Thank you!
Back in the days i'd play gt4 too with my friends for fun,but i've never know this actually complex and realistic simulation racing games damn it
There's a new thing I discovered about Lineup Re-Rolling in GT4 (and GT3 and 5 as well). Regardless, It goes like this:
-Buy a car you want that's competitive, make sure to equip sports tires and all other upgrades. Let's use the Viper GTS-R as an example (could you imagine how I got this idea?)
-Tune the car to your liking and then save the game.
If you don't have Endurance races unlocked by this point, you can instead go to Sunday Cup first and you just have to re roll 2 more times.
great video
thanks, help me out a lot, i've play this game when i was young and i didin't understand anything at all, but thanks to the video i'm playing the game again and enjoying, i hope someone in the community make a portuguese version of the video, because there a lot of information on tunning that i can't understand
27:09 I literally gasped :O Ty for telling me where I can get this car
From what I've heard, the best way to do it is by doing five updates, entering the game and exiting, then doing another five updates and repeating until all are installed.
not the biggest fan of car simulators, but I do like racing and the music is bangin. Im going to try Gran Turismo again, Thanks
I wish racing sims have setup guides like yours, this is amazing!
Thank you, glad you found it useful!
This man did a PhD thesis on GT4. I fucking love it.
This was the process:
1: in-game, map acceleration to R2 and brake to left analog stick down (I tried setting acceleration to NONE but that made the accelerator stutter, so I had to map it to something for it to work).
I'll leave this explanation here though if anyone wants to try it for themselves and see if they prefer it to regular L2/R2 controls.
just got the steam deck and GT4 is the 1st ps2 game i installed thx this is mad useful !!
Nice one, enjoy!
In any of these games the cobra R is such an investment as well as the 89 Mazda MX-5 Miata. The things you can do to them both and keep progressing.
This looks really great. You did a good job!
Thank you!
Wonderful guide! Sadly I don't have a controller for my PS2 but when I buy one (and some games) I'll be using this.
Impressive the amount of details in a game that's almost 2 decades old.
thanks for the video. never had the stuff to get into gran turismo as a kid.
Happy to help! Hehe, I can say for sure that I struggled a lot with these games as a kid too.
This was great to watch thank you
9:43 Running a brand new car until it gets into the dirty oil state is a badge of honor!
Hehe, there was indeed a lot of B-spec'ing around Test Course to get the mileage to that point. It's funny, it's actually a strat used by 200 A-spec hunters, because it reduces the car's power for more points. Glad you found the guide interesting by the way!
I always buy increase rigidity. Thank tou for this guide.
This slowjazz makes me feel like im back home in Son Deago😊
Very good guide👏🏻♥️
That mission 34 was fast. I beat the 300sl by .2 seconds
Everybody is gangsta until the loading screen icon goes red.
After a 24h endurance race. Still love this game, masterpiece.
I'm playing this right now. Bought a ps2 slim with a copy of the game!
The best first car to buy might be the used Civic type R, because with that you can beat Honda's one-make Civic races, and the prize is a Civic '87 race car that you can sell for 93,000$. And you can do that over and over again. It's the quickest way to make money when you begin, because the races are only 2 laps.
this is very helpfull thanks for the guide bro
👍
Happy to help!
Awesome, now I can barely be able to drive competently in this game in style. I do love this game, but it is extremely unforgiving and I've never been good at precision steering with a controller.
The 10K B-Spec guide had me hooked but then i had to get 200 A-Spec points on every track to complete the file
Have fun.
God tier guide.
this game is a masterpiece
Had a little chuckle at 20:30, those voice clips are from a meme video by Viper Higgins called Zurich
Congrats, you're the first person to get the reference. I've been waiting for someone to finally recognize it 🐕
@@TeaKanji the comments have now been Zuriched up
if you do a tutorial for Forza Motorsport 4
My only suggestion is:
Pick a starting car
Don't go into career mode, instead do the Subcompact event list
Buy 80's[?] Camero (it's the one that's like 204 rating, E-class]
put on spoiler + front end aero, and then put on 'boots' [heavy rims - there's a brand that starts with L that offers the heaviest rims possible, they're quite solid and look kinda like dinner plates], this will drop the car below 200 max for F-Class
enjoy breaking the F-class races
Gran Turismo 4 - The San Andreas of Gran Turismo
I just finished the doc, I put a link to it in the pinned comment. Hope it helps!
@@TeaKanji thanks so much!!!
