    After the huge response that we received from Suzy's story about a seemingly abandoned neighborhood in Connecticut, we brought in the TH-camr, Themightymoze, who created the original video to give us the low down.

    This kind of thing has been going on in Connecticut for decades. Valley Hospital in Middletown, Norwich State Hospital etc. state facilities closed, yet tax dollars being spent to keep them in place. Millions of dollars wasted every year that no one knows about.

    Malloy can't seem to find money to repair our infrastructure yet there's money to maintain an entire abandoned neighborhood.
    How many people rot in dump holes like Bella Vista yet this neighborhood goes to the weeds. It's disgusting and pittiful.
    This is another reason why our corrupt state such high taxes. Why not sell off plots of land to good hard working people that can't quite afford to buy a home. Give them a chance to get a leg up in life.
    If you are going to leave it abandoned then how about using the criminals locked up playing pool and video games to cut the grass and fix the houses??

      AMEN, It's all about "Bankster" mentality, no Christianity, no semblance of humanity, just
      cold, greedy, bureaucrat avarice. And another ghost town with zero tax value available for eminent domain to sell off to yet another developer (maybe even an associate of that bureaucrat)
      There is always the tinge or
      stench of corruption considering the opportunity available. But some Disabled, & Homeless Veterans might have been helped to regain some semblance of normal
      humanitarian life. And That is
      sad. Peace.

    There are now only 224 residents and 630 employees at the cost to the state and federal government. So we all get to pay for another waste. And many residents would like to go to other places, they are stuck just as well.

    These homes should be refit so the remaining residents of the Southbury Training School could be cared for there keeping a large building for support. Then they can close the rest of the campus. Personally I think that the campus could be revamped into a community for mentally challenged people. It could provide medical, dental, other necessary services but also add in small stores and other small service based businesses for residents to work in. You could take the campus model and change it to a community model. They have the money already if they do a little at a time and change the law to accept new residents. Right now it costs an estimated $360,000 per resident to upkeep such a large are for so little use. They are either going to have to knock down all that history to break even or they could provide groundbreaking community building which would benefit the local economy and restore a part of history that is not cared for in this country.

    fom my understanding the reason it's abandoned is cuz it wasnt properly funded which made it impossible to maintain to a level that the state requires to be considered a safe living space. It was once housing for people with mental disabilities. You cant just move homeless people into the houses , its a liability, while its a nice thought money has to come from somewhere to make things happen. Are you gunna pay for it?

    Southbury training school has been fighting to stay open in the first place. What Hes not saying is that Southbury training school was an insane Asylum, most of the buildings are giant brick structures that would take millions of dollars to repair and that neighborhood was probably for staff when the place was in full swing.

    • @jimwavect
      @jimwavect 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      CRASHMAGNET It was for staff, but that doesn't explain why the taxpayers are covering the costs to maintain the streets, cut the grass and paint the fire hydrants in an unoccupied residential neighborhood!
      CT is in a deep financial hole right now and we're paying for all this plus huge overtime costs for staffing a facility that stopped taking patients 30 years ago. The state should sell the property and buildings and relocate the remaining patients to private care facilities that cost half the amount it costs the state.

    • @richkelley8587
      @richkelley8587 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      CRASHMAGNET ,your a moron it was never a insane asylum , do you see bars or wired fences around the buildings . The Training school was for people with developmental disabilities . The Pv Village was for clients and a few staff that had to be on call for work ,like the fire department .

    What about some Sect. 42 housing? Or building some Veteran's duplexes? I mean personally I think our Vetran's could use another peaceful sanctuary to live in. They deserve this. I wish our American people really knew how our Veterans insurance works and such. It's not always great to have to go to the VA to get their healthcare. They have no real personal doctor that they picked, unlike a regular citizen out here on the street. It's take who you get, re-tell us your story over & over again. It's not fair. Idk give our seniors a nice place to live on Sect. 42 or income based. Our seniors take it rough. They are on a fixed income, sometimes only 1 check (everyone does not get Soc. Sec. and a pension) and they don't get only 1 check by because they were lazy or anything. They are forced to pay rent, sometimes up to +35% of their income just for rent, plus utilities, food (they don't get hundreds in food stamps, they have insurance premiums & med co-pays. There's ways this area could benefit a group of deserving citizens who's paid taxes.
