Great to see you guys every day for a bit. Meg you are a wiz in the kitchen and Ben those beds look wonderful. I love watching all that you are doing with your homestead.
Gotta say.. after watching you guys for quite a while... * the looking for land stage* ... it seems that FINALLY you are moving from your OMG Survival Mode to a more subdued ... "Really busy mode" . Steps guys... steps. You're making AWESOME progress.
Agreed There is enough content in this one video for many. ...What is dear steak and how to cook it? How and why to do double digging? How to make Assiago cheese ? pretty soon you will be an expert at sour Dough. Oh yea and a little explanation of what you were doing with the fence wire in the beginning of this video. Why 2 wires? Why that area? And I personally do like seeing you do the chores and feed all the animals maybe once a week. Some vloggers show feeding every day and that gets a bit old but I don't even know what animals you have going now except for the cow And I presume chickens for eggs but I don't see them. I am very happy you are doing more videos but don't burn out as some have done.
I'm with you on this one. Just watching the family together, cooking, eating, kitchen, shop just day to day stuff is nice to watch. As a matter of fact, anything that's put up is interesting to watch.
Watching Meg at Jess’s with Bugs swinging made me think how it would be nice for you to build a large swing for the two of you to have quiet moments swinging or Bugs and Mommy time together….some tree posts and a simple seat…helllooo Daddy…🥰
This is a great Hollar video. You should name this video "The Magic of Ordinary Days." 🙏 Leading your cow and calf to their new pasture with a rope is magic, Ben preparing garden beds for his family food is magic, Meg making sour dough for her man is magic, family holding hands and praying before a meal is magic, little Buggie enjoying her dinner at mom's side is magic. This is why we love the Hollars content and my family never misses a vlog. ❤
When I first started watching Ben was hesitant to say Good Morning Beautiful People and now here he is wearing it proudly on his shirt…proud of you Ben ….also feeling the pain down here in Tasmania with gusts of wind and finding heavier mulch… I now just drop and chop larger branches and deal with the fact the it doesn’t look neat.👍
The more I watch you all the more I just love it. You all are just so great and living the simple life that so many of us were raised on and try to continue to do so in these crazy days. My wife also love to make homemade bread and it is to die for. God bless you all and may His blessings continue to be on you and you wonderful family.
I know that wind. That wind puts massive clouds of sand in the air here. You're not just fried after working in it, your sandblasted! It's in your hair, your eyes, your ears, and your teeth. Good times. Started getting my garden planted up this week. Fingers crossed stuff actually grows. Happy gardening everybody!
I can only imagine how hard it is to video every day but...THANK YOU!! I for one thoroughly enjoy seeing you guys any day but every business day? Oh yes, please give me a reason to love Monday through Friday again!! I would LOVE to work from home and garden and cook, raise animals. I love where I live. I just don't get to stay here long enough. Monday through Friday I come in, make dinner, get a shower, go to bed and start it all over again. Is that really living? I told my kids (adults) that I feel like I work to be in a house I'm never in. It's an expensive mini storage. I really love that you can really doing life and raising your children. I promise you won't regret either of those things. When you look back on life it will be a life well lived. Thank you for taking us on this journey. I'll see you tomorrow ☺️
Everything looks delicious. I love the sourdough bread loaf as well. Wish they had a low carb recipe for home made sour dough bread! Everything you cook looks so delicious.....I believe your happy place Meg is in the kitchen experimenting and cooking new dishes! Blessings
Also, a homemade yogurt recipe uses first plain store bought with all the live cultures, then continues on from there. Add in fruits at end or plain is subtly lemony because no sugar! Ask me for recipe
Rainy day vlog ideas: tell us about your plans for your homestead… do you draw it out? Five year goals? Anything going on in the old farmhouse? Still planning to add a deck around the house? I love seeing how great your family works together and how you are becoming more and more self sustainable!
I don’t vlog, but your ideas of rainy day activity looks like on our farm. There are still chores, food prep, hugs, wet clothes, things blowing in the wind... so much life and love! No worries. Your “mundane” is our joy! Thank you for adding the number of vlogs, but don’t burn out. Balance is always my goal. Now it is time to milk the goats, feed the chickens, geese, and dog, plus the family. ☔️
My wife uses rye flour to keep her sourdough starter going. It seems to work better than regular flour. She also experimented with drying some for long term storage. She was able to reconstitute it after a number of months. Also sourdough English muffins are amazing.
With regard to sourdough failures, I have heard that having different ferments (my husband calls them my 'science projects) all within a short distance of each other in the same kitchen *can* affect how they work. Kombucha, Sauerkraut, Sourdough, Kefir, etc. can apparently all mess each other's biomes up if in too close of quarters in the kitchen. Keeping them spread out (some in the cellar, some in the pantry, etc. is supposed to be the key. My only real experience with this was when I had both Kefir and Kombucha going at the same time, my Kefir kept getting yucky. Your bread was gorgeous. The crust and crumb looked perfect.
I watched a fermenting collaboration last month hosted by The Fermented Homestead. (It was great😊) One of the contributors mentioned this in her video. She said they needed to be atleast 3 feet away from each other. Then she started naming the places in her house she has different ones. She said you get used to the unique decor😅
Meg, I made your basic bread recipe 3 days ago. It was so easy and delicious. I added 1 cup of whole wheat and made a Cinnamon Swirl loaf and 6 slider buns. Thanks for teaching. us and keep it up. My recipe is named "Holler Basic Bread" to now be made often. Central Valley, Visalia, Ca.
I have to say I’ve been enjoying this seeing you guys every day I love your family and I look forward to the video every day you’re going to spoil us hopefully you can keep it up for the rest of the month be safe and God bless
I totally appreciate all the hard work to make a daily vlog, set camera, drive bye, reset camera repeat. All the rest we dont see, but for us it's great cos theres no such thing as a bad Hollar video.
I love sourdough too! Its has took me wks but I have a starter now, I have tried the Dutch oven method like you also which worked great but give a try putting it in a loaf pan also, I do the stretch and fold technique and then put it in a loaf pan in ref over night and before baking I cover it w another loaf pan inverted to create steam and get the same rise loke you do w a Dutch oven. I like it in a loaf pan its much easier to make sandwiches with. Best of luck w sourdough. So yummy🙂
Love that you blog daily! Meg I feel the same way about sourdough but you have inspired me to give it a try. You are an amazing woman whom I have come to admire greatly!
Holy cow! Meg.......I get worn out just watching you in the kitchen. With all that you do with the animals, you have 5 children and you can make sourdough bread! You ROCK!!!
Can I just say how beautiful it is to watch you both! I love your new split vlog style showing what he and she is doing! And I love your story. You both have come so far and are a true testimony of how homesteading can fix a marriage. Love love love it. Sorry to super fan but I feel you both deserve the recognition for the work you have both put in! ❤
Josie is a cute name!!! Jake lives here with us. You know the song that says "feed Jake, he's been a good dog". Well, we subbed "dog" for "dough". Jake has fed us well.
Meg is so talented, ill bet there isn’t much that she don’t know how to whip up in the kitchen…I’ll bet that home made bread and butter was so delicious..I was drooling when I saw it on the last video..I could just make that my entire meal..lol Ben and the children are so lucky to have such an awesome wife and mother like Meg.
It’s good to see you 5 days a week. You all have come so far from when I was watching you driving all over the country looking for a place to call home. You are so happy, your family looks so healthy. ❤️❤️❤️
I love love love watching your vlogs 🥰 a vlog everyday is amazing, I enjoy how you guys are no fuss people, it’s relaxing to watch, thank you for sharing your amazing journey with me.
I love your "little bit of this, little bit of that" Vlogs and it's nice to see everyday life. You may not think you're making substantial content but it's great to watch you just doing you're thing.
I loved it when Meg said “gotta make sourdough bread for my man!” The bread looked absolutely delicious…yum! Meg, you were making cheese, bread, muffins, etc. You are an amazing woman😘!
Dude!!!! When I saw the instapot lid sittin on the pot, I paused the video and went to try it out!!!!!! GAME CRANGER!!!!! Wow. You not only teach us homesteading but also life hacks. I never knew!!!!! Thanks youall!!!!!!!! Love the content!!!!!
I love it when you have one of those little bit of this and little bit of that days!!! Those are the real days of a farm or homestead life!! Love watching your little one grow up right before our eyes!! She is so beautiful and so darn cute!!!
You may think your daily dabbling is trite and uninteresting to us, but we love being part of your family. I can’t get outside and play in the garden right now or amaze my husband with tasty treats from the kitchen, so I get to participate from right here! Thank you for sharing.
May Gad Bless you in your resilient work and enjoyment of your chosen life. I pray 🙏 windstorm isn’t too strong. I’ll pray 🙏 seriously for you. Maybe by the time I’ve received this video the wind storm will have past. I’m always ‘Anxious’ in heavy winds. Other People may be scared in storms, but for-me it’s
Oooo.....I Love puttering!....especially when I sit in a comfy chair, with a coffee, and watch somebody else do the puttering 😊....unless it's Meg in the kitchen, then I'm all eyes and ears with notebook and pencil in hand!.
Such an awesome family. Those boys are great helpers and that's what it takes to be self sufficient. Meg is awesome in that kitchen, your whole family compliments each other the way you work together to get things done. Love your videos.
I live near Livingston, MT... The wind is blowing semis over on I-90 all the time, like every other week! In the past it has blown a train of its tracks! ... The wind is maddening! I'm moving out of here! It blows the dirt (and seeds) out of my raised beds, 6 inches last spring!
curious - on your rainy day vlog days could you do a workshop with your sons where you teach them to build something (cheese press for meg, or other things that y'all legit need around the property). It would be helpful to see the steps - and probably easier to film in a step by step way with the kids as students? Or possibly demo-ing the interior spaces of the old farm house?
I used live in a very windy area and when I put mulch down around my tree's I would tack it down with chicken wire and stakes. Hope it might help you all as well. :)
That loaf is beautiful! Yogurt is super easy. You heat it, cool it, add some plain yogurt to it, mix, then keep it warm for 7hrs and finally fridge it. I can write the exacts if you want it. 💕🙏
RAIN DAYS WOULD BE MY SHOP TIME... God knows I got a endless list of things that need to be done out there!!!!! I haven't had a physically good day in over 3 months to wear I could get out there and work!!!!
Great vlog.....great stuff... Besides all of the lessons people can learn from y'all......one of my main takeaways is your encouraging , positive attitude...What awesone role models y'all are....Nice !!!!!
When I was growing up my mom had sourdough for years! She would even use it to make biscuits, cornbread, and pancakes in addition to bread. Those sourdough biscuits were excellent. It doesn't matter what time of day/night I watch your vids, if Meg is cooking I nearly starve to death with everything you make!!! All that beautiful milk from Daisy is going to make delicious cheese, yogurt, etc. Do you ever make buttermilk from it? My aunt used to make buttermilk from her cow's milk and occasionally gave some to mom, so good. Loving your daily vlogs. Ben, the garden beds you are preparing are going to raise a bountiful harvest this year!!
I love your videos. Keep them coming. I love you guys and your family. How old are the boys? I've been watching you guys for a while now and you have so much going on but I don't feel like I know the boys. I love the bare feet of the boys. It reminds me of my childhood. I love all the work the 2 of you can accomplish in a day. Is there anything that the 2 of you can't do or haven't tried or haven't mastered? And I agree with you that there are lots of skills they use to teach in schools that are needed on a homestead. Why did they stop teaching all those skills? I'm so in love with your family and your videos and so I'm grateful for the 2 of you. God Bless you all.
Yea, the wind in west Texas….well it’s just what it is! And your right; the wind just wears you out, you don’t get use to it, you just deal! To bad we don’t get any rain to go with the drying wind! I’m sure Crystal at “ Blue Catus Goats”can relate! Hang in there guys and please stay safe! Great job wiping those beds into shape! Will be much easier next year!
You may not think you have anything to do for a video, but you doing your everyday things is just fine. I may not have a homestead yet, but I love watching what and how you do what you do. I can only dream of being able to do some of the gardening methods that you do. So for now mine will be in containers 🤷🏻♀️. Love the back and forth vlog, seeing what both of you are doing. Have a blessed day 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💕👩🏻🌾
Two things. 1. Yogurt in the instant pot is super easy.(if I can do it you can do it) 2. Ben you have yourself a rainy day project, making a cheese press!!
I like your videos. Kids running around barefoot reminds me growing up here in North Carolina. When weather is nice to get outside barefoot is what me my sisters and brothers did . Working, chores and having fun doing. Y’all take care .
The simple day (this and that) videos are good too. Much better than most things on regular TV.
Loving the content! Hey I would love to watch all you do… kitchen, shop, anything with you guys in it is fabulous! Blessings

I REFUSE to HEAR that MAGIC MEG could ever fail at anything she is doing in the KITCHEN ! NOPE NOPE not POSSIBLE !! 🤣💯👍
I totally agree! Never failures, just learning curves.

I don't remember your boys' names but that one in the red shirt watching you two at the end of the blog has stolen my heart. Lord bless you all.
Yes he is such a doll, the expression on his face was great!
He knows the value of having 2 loving parents who love each other.
What a sweet smile when he hears Meg say "Tryin to make bread for my man." That's a good marital lesson right there of sacrificial love.

My heart melted when you said "I FED IT AND IT DIDNT DIE!" YEAH JOSE!!!!!

Hi, Ben and Meg! I love watching you cook and do your magic in the kitchen, Meg! Ben, is there a cheese press in Meg’s not too distant future?

Anybody else notice that Meg has developed quite a Southern drawl??? LOVE IT GIRL!!! 😘 💕 😍 😁 👍
Back in the late 70 ‘s sour dough was a big thing. It’s always been my favorite.

You both have come so far and are a true testimony of how homesteading can fix a marriage. Love love love it. Sorry to super fan but I feel you both deserve the recognition for the work you have both put in! ❤
Cheese press, sounds like a great rain day blog. Also knife making. Bottom line, metal and woodworking projects are a lot of fun to watch.

OMG Never have I ever known that I can place the instant pot lid on the side like that. I love that.
Me too....I was so happy to learn that! Thanks Meg....even when you don't know it you are teaching us.

I love how your boys turn helping with chores into fun entertainment. ( riding in or on whatever you are pulling, etc)

We live in Surry co. near Va. border and sometimes our winds sound like trains going by. Spooky sounds!
yes im in NW guilford county and I heard that for the first time about 4-5 months ago.. it sounds like a truck is in my yard!
Such an awesome family. Those boys are great helpers and that's what it takes to be self sufficient. Meg is awesome in that kitchen, your whole family compliments each other the way you work together to get things done. Love your videos.

I was today years old when I realized you can put the lid of your instapot like that 7:00, I’m going to go try this right now.

I dont mind inside videos. Meg could teach a person a lot and Ben you are skilled in the shop! We just like seeing you and the family❤️
Is there anything that the 2 of you can't do or haven't tried or haven't
mastered?
And I agree with you that there are lots of skills they use to teach in schools that are needed on a homestead.
Why did they stop teaching all those skills?
I'm so in love with your family and your videos and so I'm grateful for the 2 of you.
God Bless you all.
I enjoy every vlog you produce. If you vlogged every day I would never complain.
Y'all are so cute. I'm not sure if Ben could love Meg any more than when she is baking awesome sourdough bread.
Love the daffodils! great to see everyone again!
Have a blessed day 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💕👩🏻🌾
Hey, could Meg do the video about how she is organized with all projects, cooking, homeschooling and clean sink without dishwasher!!!??
Rain day Hello Beautiful People! 15mins of Buggy with toys Thanks Bye! -Done Old Fans go wild
I was today years old when I learned you can hold an instant pot lid like that.... THANK YOU!
Love to see the cows eating the new spring grass!
Two things. 1. Yogurt in the instant pot is super easy.(if I can do it you can do it)
2. Ben you have yourself a rainy day project, making a cheese press!!
I really enjoy Meg in the kitchen...you should do a cooking video if you have a rainy day and need to cook inside....the Beautiful People Cooking Show
I like your videos. Kids running around barefoot reminds me growing up here in North Carolina. When weather is nice to get outside barefoot is what me my sisters and brothers did . Working, chores and having fun doing. Y’all take care .
