Bunny girls were not a skin. It was a, get this, a GLOBAL ONLY animation when the main cast danced on bunny girl outfits. When CN heard about it the situation got so bad they were reported to the CCP for catering to the global audience instead of the CN one. They also clamored to get the video removed cause bunny girl outfits depicted the main cast as hookers. Also yeah attempted murder but that happened at the end

Yeah, agreed. I honestly get the feeling they had originally considered all the male Flamechasers for inclusion. If you look at some of the trailers from the time the male Flamechasers are showcased the same as the females. And the designs and story for them were just as amazing, in my opinion. Some folks just fall into the "raging manchild" category and cant handle it, I guess. Pity, knowing Mihoyo it would have been done spectacularly.

As a member of the CN community, I can confirm that there were actually a surprisingly decent number of us who supported the idea of playable male characters in HI3.......We fought many battles but we lost the war.
also, i see a lot of english comments about how there shouldn't be male characters playable on the game and only "waifus". it's just that the CN playerbase is bigger i guess
Da Wei creating HSR was honestly peak experience and vision culminating. A game with only one gender would certainly only cater towards certain people, but with both genders, everyone can enjoy it, which means more revenue and popularity.
It just feels so weird having the entire casts be female or male. Part of why I don't really like Hi3rd. There's not even a male self-insert ffs, let alone actual developed male characters that's playable.

They didn't just invest in fusion energy, but they also did a shit ton of charity such as making schools in rural area, training center, a new VA studio for China, and a lot more charity project. They did this even before the success of Genshin Impact, its because of their motto "Tech Otaku Saving the World" that Mihoyo is a very generous company
Tears of Themis is pretty chill despite also catering to one fanbase also, but this time female fanbase and yes, there is "groping simulator" you can touch all 4 men, and special outfits will give special groping animation iirc (i remember that yank...) For some reason they are chill, yet HI3rd is like this
Being a Themis fan is good we get good QoL, Rewards, AND they listen to their global audience (throwback when they considered discontinuing the JP VO but decided not to bc players showed their concerns in a civil, adult, non assassination matter)

The even crazier thing is that after Adam in APHO, they doubled down in APHO 2 with Lyle, a support character that you can't directly play as but is a very present second male character in the story. Which, honestly, Lyle sort of looks like... Aventurine... a little... *oh no*
Thing with Lyle is that he showed up in previous story as a Rooster kid, different from Adam, which he may be the kid Mei saved, but it's just speculation at this point.

i feel like the main reason why hsr worked with the male characters was that it was never intended for the hi3 audience, but more for the genshin-like audience. hi3 much more likely had WAY more ML players (master love) that had a much lower tolerance for males than genshin players
They got mad before over some skins that global had access to. That was the point where i ended up dropping all mihoyo games cause why can players from another server dictate what happens on other servers?
@@DarkFrozenDepths I think that was dropped with Genshin. For example, CN players were forced into swapping Jean, Mona and Ambers classic skins to their updated skins where as it's an alternate skin for global players.
Yeah, Hoyo DEFINITELY realises that male characters also sells. In fact Genshin ratio of male female player isn't that big which around 55 : 45. They also know (sane) male player want to play as male characters too. My friend even says he's willing to go back to Genshin if they release Siegfried expy. (Please be Varka)

@@eleongo why shouldnt they? games need the flexibility to grow and change over time rather than sticking to a rigid status quo, i used to play warframe and that game almost died and for a few years was constantly getting hate till fairly recently where they added a ton of changes that made various community factions happier. Secondly people say that same thing but interms of studios, recently manjuu (azur lane devs) got flak because of an image that made it look like there might be playable male characters in thier new game and fanboys were whining that they should only make stuff catered to men. This type of response has also been seen in anime too. When free! that anime about swimming had been announced, fans of the studio made an uproar that it was a manservice anime rather than the usual male catered moe blob stuff like K-on that the studio was known for. Some went as far as saying it would kill the studio. Funny given the series success with both genders and how profitable it became.

FYI a huge number of HST (honkai starrail) Korean male players agree with this rhetoric. they're basically saying starrail should STOP producing MALE CHARACTERS in the game because it's POISONING and RUINING the game. Aaaaahhh, Haxxor Bunny and Lunar Vow. Two of my favorite battlesuit designs in the whole game. Luna is still meta, but I still play with Haxxor Bunny in my ice team for no better reason than I adore the design. Are there better options? Yep. Don't care.
@@brod1762I still use her to this day, lol. In some instantes, Kira and Sushang are still too slow. No matter how much more dmg and buff you have, and How much more meta you are, nothing beats easily triggered Time Fractures, stopped frames and no-switch supports.

I was not a HI3 captain when i watched "Final Lesson" and a remember sobbing like a lil baby. Every time I watched it after I always teared up/cried. Mihoyo is a master at playing with your emotions.
I actually watched another video a while back in which a vtuber who also played HI3 was discussing the characters in HSR and literally referred to Himeko as "Chapter 9" instead of her name. Best/worst reference ever. The trauma is real.

Not mentionned in the video is the paycheck meme. One player had a headcannon of Adam being there just for the paycheck and that headcannon was wildy accepted that it became the fanon personality of Adam, a guy just there for the paycheck, other girls and that other new guy who was roommate with him at one point may flirt with him but he only cares about getting payed. And they have added a male protagonist(default gender is female but you can change genders at any time) for part 2 of the story. Another funny aspect of the Adam gonna NTR us post is that the Captain doesnt even exist in the main story. We only exist in some sort of alternative universe that is only relevant in events. Also I really hope we get a playable Siegfried and Kevin in HSR. There is already a character named Shiraga Oni with the same VA as Kevin that narrates one of the Acheron trailers.

Actually, Star rail and Genshin also have quite a lot of male haters in the community, it's just that these games also attract other demographics to balance the public opinion toward this issue, but still they are still having war everyday. To be specific, Male haters love to discredit male characters with different kind of excuses such as this guy sucked in term of META and players who love this character are dumb af, or this character is too op and it shouldn't exist.
Tbh I think this is a pretty common thing in mixed-gender games. The funniest thing I've seen is people went out their way calling other people misogynist just because these people like/love the male characters (while the male characters fanbase mostly filled with women). They really hate the idea of people liking the male characters lol.

the grope simulator is still available BUT I think it's only on CN and SEA servers it was only available for old characters that was available before the update was implemented so base Kiana,Bronya, Mei, Fu Hua and Himeko you can still touch them and they still react to it.
CN does not have it after 2018 (which also removed all swimsuit skins as well), while SEA and JP still has it, it's only for characters released before 2018.
Adam wasn't really a self insert. Yes, he has dialogue options, but it is stated clearly that he has a personality of his own, minimal as it is. And just like others after him, he also has his own thoughts. Oh, and Captain isn't a self insert at all. He is an actual character with actual depth and very talkative, but you can only see him doing that in events, especially the one called Captainverse, an entire series of events equally as tragic as the main story. Because mihoyo could never leave their characters blank

I'm currently playing through the story of HI3 to know more about references in HSR, overall it's a fun game. You pretty much only use trial characters in the story, so you can completely ignore all gacha elements to get caught up with the story.

From the way some of the community reacted to the possibility of playable male characters in HI3rd, some part of me think Genshin and Star Rail was a way for that possibility to come true without being bombarded by the crazies. Surprised that Sensei from Blue Archive, which is a South Korean game, gets a whole lot of love from the community; maybe if Adam had character, he'll possibly be loved by the HI3rd community. Now we wait for the documentary of the Genshin Sumeru hellfire (Pre/Post- 3.0 release).

In my opinion, their biggest mistake with Adam was making him into a self-insert. If they bothered to make him into a full character, the hate would have been lesser.

The response from Chinese fans is actually a good example of how audiences can push back. I only wish the West did the same thing, because a lot of Western game developers seem to enjoy pissing off their players (i.e. Saint's Row, Last of Us 2, Spiderman 2...) Fans must use their power to punish the developers, or they'll lose that power.
Between the self-deluded self inserts, and the yurifanatics sending death threats over non canon depiction of straight pairings, the mihoyo fanbase is notorious for being THE most toxic and unhinged mobile game fanbase of all time.
Self-inserting is a matter of taste and ultimately harmless. It's not at all comparable to toxic behaviour and literal death threats. I've never seen an SI fan send one.

As someone who plays HI3rd religiosly since 2019 and considers it the best game of all time I would love male characters in HI3rd. I love that Hoyo is listening to the Honkai community but they are doing it too much imo. Honkai is still very popular in China so it's not surprising that they have a lot of influence. Heck they are also the reason that some Charakter animations were changed. Like HoT riding the dragon in her Ult (good change) or the combo atk animations for HoFi (bad change). Honkai along with GGZ is also Hoyos baby so of course Hoyo will do anything to keep this games going for years to come and if it means changing their vision so be it. I honestly like the changes they made over the years. I don't miss that "grope" feature at all and I am glad this game became more mature over the years. I feel like Hoyo is still trying to ease the players in and slowly add playable males into the game. We could play as Siegfried and Kevin in the finale of part 1 and the new MC of part 2 is a fully voiced character that can change genders (support character). As far as I remember people didn't like the part 2 MC not because you could switch genders but because we didn't know if it would be just another self-insert like in their other games. After it was confirmed that they would be in fact a fully voiced actual character everyone was pretty chill for the most part at least on GLB. So there is a chance we will get more males as support characters in the future.
Well they probably have added Depressing storylines in their games with GGZ for example Sin Mal and Wendy and in Part 2 we now can have a playable male character in the form of Dreamseeker
Female ds Is still canon because unlike HSR or genshin you can't "choose" dreamseeker's gender until prologue is over (and prologue btw includes a rather intimate dance with senadina and female dreamseeker that can't be done by male ds because of not being playable till later)

As an old HI3 player I’d recommend that you just look at the lore because the stories and cinematics are amazing. I wouldn’t recommend starting fresh at this point as catching up is too insane…

7:20 for the record most gacha games have the classic depression simulator story. It’s because most of them are fighting games and they have to defend why their cute waifus are fighting in the first place way so they come up with a plot that usually ends up becoming more and more convoluted and complicated over time since having lore theory crafters brings in more engagement. Keep in mind on release genshin in 1.0 was fantasy anime characters vs fatui before the flushed out the lore.

Not mentioned in the video but the community referred Adam as "Mr. Paycheck" as a coping mechanism. The idea was that Adam only exist in the game just to collect his paycheck and is not interested with the waifus hence is bland personality.
As a veteran honkai impact player i want to say that don't look at hi3 community/game and say it's bad because of those cn peeps, we don't like to be represented by them, we kinda lost our hope for mihoyo to listen to us as glb players Honkai impact 3 has good male characters with actually good designs, well they made part 2 of the story(it's like a whole new story) with new characters and mihoyo had to drop the most bland male/female design to be the mc just like adam, keep in mind that part 2 just came out so they have experience with making characters BUT they had to make them bland which made glb community hate it but anyway mihoyo didn't listen as usual and also didn't reveal the mc concept art i guess they don't want the community to be angry again lol

If you look at some of the trailers from the time the male Flamechasers are showcased the same as the females. And the designs and story for them were just as amazing, in my opinion. Da Wei creating HSR was honestly peak experience and vision culminating. A game with only one gender would certainly only cater towards certain people, but with both genders, everyone can enjoy it, which means more revenue and popularity.

i feel like the main reason why hsr worked with the male characters was that it was never intended for the hi3 audience, but more for the genshin-like audience. hi3 much more likely had WAY more ML players (master love) that had a much lower tolerance for males than genshin players

Secondly people say that same thing but interms of studios, recently manjuu (azur lane devs) got flak because of an image that made it look like there might be playable male characters in thier new game and fanboys were whining that they should only make stuff catered to men.
This type of response has also been seen in anime too. When free! that anime about swimming had been announced, fans of the studio made an uproar that it was a manservice anime rather than the usual male catered moe blob stuff like K-on that the studio was known for. Some went as far as saying it would kill the studio.

One player had a headcannon of Adam being there just for the paycheck and that headcannon was wildy accepted that it became the fanon personality of Adam, a guy just there for the paycheck, other girls and that other new guy who was roommate with him at one point may flirt with him but he only cares about getting payed.
And they have added a male protagonist(default gender is female but you can change genders at any time) for part 2 of the story.
Another funny aspect of the Adam gonna NTR us post is that the Captain doesnt even exist in the main story. We only exist in some sort of alternative universe that is only relevant in events.

Adam wasn't really a self insert. Yes, he has dialogue options, but it is stated clearly that he has a personality of his own, minimal as it is. And just like others after him, he also has his own thoughts.
Oh, and Captain isn't a self insert at all. He is an actual character with actual depth and very talkative, but you can only see him doing that in events, especially the one called Captainverse, an entire series of events equally as tragic as the main story.

I'm currently playing through the story of HI3 to know more about references in HSR, overall it's a fun game. You pretty much only use trial characters in the story, so you can completely ignore all gacha elements to get caught up with the story.

From the way some of the community reacted to the possibility of playable male characters in HI3rd, some part of me think Genshin and Star Rail was a way for that possibility to come true without being bombarded by the crazies. Surprised that Sensei from Blue Archive, which is a South Korean game, gets a whole lot of love from the community; maybe if Adam had character, he'll possibly be loved by the HI3rd community.

As someone who plays HI3rd religiosly since 2019 and considers it the best game of all time I would love male characters in HI3rd.
I love that Hoyo is listening to the Honkai community but they are doing it too much imo. Honkai is still very popular in China so it's not surprising that they have a lot of influence. Heck they are also the reason that some Charakter animations were changed. Like HoT riding the dragon in her Ult (good change) or the combo atk animations for HoFi (bad change).
Honkai along with GGZ is also Hoyos baby so of course Hoyo will do anything to keep this games going for years to come and if it means changing their vision so be it. I honestly like the changes they made over the years. I don't miss that "grope" feature at all and I am glad this game became more mature over the years.
I feel like Hoyo is still trying to ease the players in and slowly add playable males into the game. We could play as Siegfried and Kevin in the finale of part 1 and the new MC of part 2 is a fully voiced character that can change genders (support character). As far as I remember people didn't like the part 2 MC not because you could switch genders but because we didn't know if it would be just another self-insert like in their other games. After it was confirmed that they would be in fact a fully voiced actual character everyone was pretty chill for the most part at least on GLB. So there is a chance we will get more males as support characters in the future.

Female ds Is still canon because unlike HSR or genshin you can't "choose" dreamseeker's gender until prologue is over (and prologue btw includes a rather intimate dance with senadina and female dreamseeker that can't be done by male ds because of not being playable till later)

Honkai impact 3 has good male characters with actually good designs, well they made part 2 of the story(it's like a whole new story) with new characters and mihoyo had to drop the most bland male/female design to be the mc just like adam, keep in mind that part 2 just came out so they have experience with making characters BUT they had to make them bland which made glb community hate it but anyway mihoyo didn't listen as usual and also didn't reveal the mc concept art i guess they don't want the community to be angry again lol
