    I'm always in awe of the 777. Due to special circumstances, I was able to fly in first-class on an American Airlines 777 from Miami to London. When I boarded, the flight attendant asked me if I want to meet the Captain and see the cockpit. It was amazing. One of the funniest, strangest things was this flight was a day or 2 after an iOS update for the iPhone. The update was the one let you use the volume button to take a picture instead of touching the screen. All 3 pilots noticed and were like "Wow! How'd you do that? Can you show us?" I'm thinking there are a million buttons on this multi-million dollar airline that these guys fly and that they want me to teach them about their phones! I don't think I will ever forget talking with them.

    The 777-300ER looks so cool. The 777 is a relatively young program, compared to most other aircraft types.

    The 777 was probably the last REAL Boeing product ever and the first Boeing plane to rely on fly-by-wire systems. It's the last plane designed by a once formidable engineering team and sadly marks the end of an era for Boeing...
    I guess after about 25 years of active service, the operational record of the 777 speaks volumes. This is one robust, safe and well designed machine...

    The oldest 777 I flew on was B-HNL, which was the first 777 ever built, as flight CX511 FUK>TPE>HKG in 2014.
    In second place was B-HNC (1996 built), flew it in 2016 as flight CX419 ICN>HKG.
    In third place was B-HND (1996 built), flew it twice in 2014, first as CX510 HKG>TPE>FUK, then three months later as CX521 NRT>HKG.
    The oldest -300 I have flown on is 4th in my ranking, which was a 1998 built B-HNF as CX451 TPE>HKG in 2018. Ironically, the next flight after that one, which occurred just three days afterwards, was the newest 777 I have ever flown on, a 2015-built -300ER, B-HNR, as CX101 HKG>SYD.

    I normally fly Cathay Pacific and mostly on 777. Sadly they decided that 9 seats across was too comfortable for a 14 hour flight so they made it 10 across. It always seemed like such a modern plane, and then I watched this video.

  • @benwright2757

    The British Airways 777’s mentioned in this video have actually all been retired now. G-ZZZA, B, and C were the only 3 remaining 777-200’s which BA owned at the start of the year and we’re all retired by March sadly. The registrations of British Airways aircraft would be a cool video in itself actually, they’re all hidden acronyms.

    • @tomstravels520

      A and B haven’t been officially retired yet as they are currently stored at Heathrow

    • @benwright2757

      Thomas Mortimore Ah I see, I thought A and B both went on the 19th of March. I suspect they won’t fly passengers again though even once passenger demand finally picks up - I know the cabins were fairly dated and they now they have brand new 787-10’s which they’ll be eager to use.

    I've always liked the Triple Seven, ever since reading the book and watching the Channel 4 series; ""21st Century Jet", which followed and chronicled the design, development of the new Boeing wide body. The Triple Seven was, I believe, the first airliner to be built using a system called 'design/build', so people had the chance to be integral member of "The Wing Team" or the "Vertical Stabiliser Team" and there were few or no paper drawings. Everything was 'drawn' on the computer, with \integration days', where no new drawings were possible, because the computer was resolving all existing work, with everything else. This meant that if, somehow, a 15cm duct had to divert round a 2cm cableform as it went through a section, the conflict could easily be resolved before they got anywhere near creating a problem in 'real life'.
    The Triple Seven was, I believe, the first airliner (twin) to receive its 240 minute ETOPS (Engines Turn or People Swim) certification before it entered service. The first two production aeroplanes - a United and a BA airframe each - flew almost non stop, from city, to city, country to country for weeks, until they had amassed enough hours. They were flown by UA and BA crews, with Boeing staff and engineers on board, but if there was something wrong, they could only refer to their own Technical Support teams at their own bases. One of them had a problem when the validity of their destinations database expired in Hawaii and required updating. With Boeing staff who had written the software actually on board, the crew had to refer to UA Techs in SFO to talk them through the remote update. The Triple Seven rocks.

    the B-777 was one of the nicest Boeing jets i flew from the B-727 on up and thru the B-757/767 as well as the B-747 that I flew during my long career as a pilot when I retired from UAL as a Capt about 15 years ago. i miss that forward facing window seat to this day...over and out.

    Flew the Guam - HNL. on the 200. It was like stepping back into my childhood. Cloth seats, late 90s style first-class, ceiling screens, premade sandwiches with the old united logo, and no idea on the eta landing. If I remember right the config was 3x5x3 in coach. Not fun being in the middle for 8 hours with two big guys for seatmates. But somehow made it work.

    • @lukethompson5558
      @lukethompson5558 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What year was this? The oldest first class seats still flying on these aircraft were installed in 2011, and but looked out of date from the very 1st date of install. They’re 8-across, half rear facing. You wouldn’t be the only one who mistook these seats as originals from 1994, but nope, 2011 😂

    • @taylorhoge8181

      @@lukethompson5558 2016! Wow, it felt like a time warp. I was in Coach, They made no effort. I only glanced at 1st class on deboarding in Guam. They looked like something from 2001.

    Lots of great flights on Air France and British Airways 777s. Somehow I always luck out and get undersold flights, taking the red eye to Europe and having no the whole row to yourself is an outstanding way to fly. Have a cocktail, sleep for a bit, wake up in time for breakfast and arrive rested, fed, and ready to go.

    I flew the 777-300ER a couple of times trans pacific and then also United's 777-200. I liked the 300 more, but it probably also had something to with the airline's config too. United's was just old and the 3-4-3 config they had just doesn't work as well for comfort, especially for those sitting in the aisle.

    I like the B777 a lot. It has a clean looking cockpit, a very aerodynamic looking shape which probably flies as good as it looks, massive engines and is a true work horse I think. I've flown a -200 once in economy. Was quite loud and not as comfortable as the a330. But I still think it's a good aircraft design with a solid safety record. Could benefit from a sound absorbing interior maybe.

My friend, with Airbus making the A321LR/XLR and new version of A350(ULR, 2000), don't you think Boeing should make the same with B787 and B777x? I mean an ER/LR version with MTOW+ of 787 an 777? I'm definitely a 777 fanboy. Just checked my flight diary and note I've clocked a total of 120 flights on the 777-300ER in the past several years. 99% of my flights have been with Emirates so can't wait until the 777-X comes into the fleet. A couple of times I flew BA 777 business class with that backwards-facing seating arrangement pretty poor I must say. Although flying Emirates business many times the 777 seating is OK (First class is awesome with that whole suite thing). But by far I liked the Korean Air business class on the 777 which is very similar to the Emirates A380 business class where you get that little area to yourself.

There is just one thing about the jet that I do not like though and its that booming startup sound the engine makes just before it completely starts. You definitely hear it when your inside the aircraft. Other aircraft engines doesn't make as much. Other than that its a great aircraft. I hope the 777X would be different and be a bit kinder to the ears.

    I have flown the UA 777-200 (a very old one) from Honolulu to Guam. The flight time is 9 hours and there is no IFE. ;-;

    The 777 used to be my favorite but as the A350 and 787 get more popular, it's hard to enjoy the 777.
    Altho the GE-90 engines are powerful, the plane is loud, with less humid air, and the increasingly popular 3-4-3 layout makes it more cramped. It's just not as charming as it used to be

    The program with tge United 777-300 is that they moved from a 3-3-3 configuration to a 3-4-3 one using smaller chairs. As a tall guy, I was on one of this flight and the experience was awful, even in economy plus.

    They really need to get rid of these old -200 and replace them with the 787-8 or -9!

    Very easy to exceed limit speeds when it gets into to turbulence. You’ve got to really watch it.
