As an Architect, this is so cool to see a builder go over the drawings and hear what is important to you. Thanks for distinguishing the Architect's role versus the Engineer's. We try our best to make sexy drawings.
I've said it before, but damn... you're well spoken & eloquent as hell. Most people use verbal fillers (ahhs, uhmms, etc.) but you don't; it's awesome to hear.
Mr. Matt you look about 12 years young, however you sound like someone with all the wisdom of 1000 years old… thank you for all of your knowledge, wisdom and ability to deliver to all us strangers here in your TH-cam class!!! Thanks again.
Crazy to think that after 10 years of being in the field, I’ll be trying out a management position. It’s very comforting to know that I have your channel to keep me updated on common issues. I don’t know what to think about what to expect. But man am I glad I grew up framing houses in the summer at 14 years old instead of other extra curriculars😁
this is great you revisit these issues. you've made these vids before and a strength of your channel is you are revisiting these concepts and educational moments. Great stuff Matt!
These videos are for those of you wanting to become better at your craft, understand plans better and grow as a carpenter / tradesman. I've got a few more on the way that'll help break down the bidding process and more.. If you're new to reading plans, this video is for you.. We're starting with the basics. If you want to use the program I'm using in the video, check out ConX today: bit.ly/3j2kerk
Another great learning video. Idk whats more impressive, the video, the almost 200k subscribers, the 26 million views on the channel. Keep banging on Brother !🤘
Matt really cool stuff , one thing to mention is how the architect will pull dimensions, in our office we do face of stud to face of stud and I know I other office they do face of finish to face of finish. Usually one of the dimensions strings will be loose to account for fraction add-ups, toward a non critical space !
Matt thank you brother! This video is massively helpful. I'm in the middle of a whole house remodel and I did all my take offs manually with a spreadsheet and home depot links. This is great content! 💪
Thanks for your explanations Matt. I framed houses for a few summers, then remodeled houses for a few years back in the day. Now we're working on building our own home from the ground up out here in Colorado. I happened upon your videos. Glad I did, very informative. Thanks again for all of the info you put out. All the best to you and yours!
This is super cool cause I’ve been watching the blueprint video for the past 4 days just grasping the idea. Now he has more content about it. It finally appeared in my feed. This Matt guy is super cool number 1
Matt I was able to use the free trial of ConX, Man I figured out everything from my framing to my cabinets & countertops. your last video on ConX also showed me how to do some calculations.
Hi! Do you have a video for foundations? If not, would you be able to please explain how to determine stem wall heights? if there are no isometric footings pages or call out on the structural pages? 🙏🏼
I've always said 90% of a company really don't want the position, but you can see talent as soon as you see his work ethics especial if he starts from the bottom. And for me those are the one's worth training.
AWESOME VIDEO. I'm going to share it with my boss. He has "40 years" of experience yet he's always calling me to ask stupid questions, like what kind of holdowns are we using, what's the nail spacing for the roof sheathing, and on and on it goes. Again, great job!
One more thing, did you or could you do a video on your selection of tools and equipment you use? From generators to pencils. I bet there is a lot there? Thanks!
Thank You, I Learned a lot. Best video about reading plans. Just want to know about the differences between your plans and plans designed with Australian standards. As I am from Australia.
I tried conx and our plan sets were just too big for it to be usable. Maybe I am not setting it up properly. Are you uploading single sheets in full res? Compressing the sets to a certain file size? Thanks for the video!
Hey! I am an architect in training and am wanting to get better at my construction documents. Generally my firm dimensions from edge to edge of windows instead of to the centerline. We also tag windows with height width and head height. If a plan set came by your desk like that what would your thoughts be? This video is insanely helpful as someone who draws plans, it's nice to see what contractors and build crews need and why. Thanks!
I have question I am trying to do a lumber take off and how do I calculate them with out con x ? Do you have a video or recommend one for all lumber ? Thx
Talk to the architect? Now you have just gone to far with expectations! Excellently produced video, sharing the knowledge, otherwise your cool- very delicate style to with the tips on what it takes to glean and utilize your fundamental knowledge inserts.
Thanks so much for the video it was extremely informative. Would the architect work with a structural engineer or would we need to hire both? I'm planning to build my own 448 sq ft home addition but I would need the engineers design and callouts for materials etc. I'm pretty handy and can follow a good set of instructions.
Hey Matt can you show me, what it took you years of hard work and dedication to learn over many years, in 30 min and by the we way I won't ever open a book, let alone read and can you do it in 30 minutes so I can go straight to the top with nearly 0.0 effort on my part?
So me and my husband have found or ourselves in a situation. The Architect we hired and have paid in full for our home design...Thinking the designs wear done.. But come to find that there seems to be allot missing. We have asked him for the missing documents but to be honest its hard to know exactly what is missing. Is there any way to have you look at our designs?
hey Matt another awesome video!in one of your previous videos you said if we wanted to see a copy of your contract you use to email you.just wondering if I can get your email so I can get a copy of your contract and look at it to see what all needs to be in it.thanks a lot much appreciated.keep the great videos coming dude!
These days it's next to impossible to translate an A or B algorithm to make an A vs B decision to the average homo sapien so getting most to read framing notes outside of FB or a texted emoji has got to come close to 2 or 3 roofing nails to the finger level frustration.
As an Architect, this is so cool to see a builder go over the drawings and hear what is important to you.

Now I know how to build a Lego House.

Thanks for all the information n effort you put into your videos.
Thank you. Your explanations are very clear. I've definitely subscribed.
Great video! I'm going to have to look into ConX, as I'm still doing take-offs with a scale and notepad!
I've always said 90% of a company really don't want the position, but you can see talent as soon as you see his work ethics especial if he starts from the bottom. And for me those are the one's worth training.

Just want to know about the differences between your plans and plans designed with Australian standards. As I am from Australia.
Thanks a lot , very helpful video .
Any idea where I can get a set of plans to look at while learning? I currently do not own a home. Thanks for your time
I tried conx and our plan sets were just too big for it to be usable. Maybe I am not setting it up properly. Are you uploading single sheets in full res? Compressing the sets to a certain file size? Thanks for the video!
Bro thanks, from your knowledge , i want to be super perfect
It would be nice if you could upload the plans you are discussing as a pdf for us to analyze and maybe help us dive into it.
10:20 "If the building doesn't look like the exterior elevations when your done with it...." The pause said it all... man, you screwed up big time! 🤣🤣

Talk to the architect? Now you have just gone to far with expectations! Excellently produced video, sharing the knowledge, otherwise your cool- very delicate style to with the tips on what it takes to glean and utilize your fundamental knowledge inserts.

You typically need both, depends on your area.

Muy buen video
Como puedo hacer para ver tu video subtitulado me seria de mucha ayuda 👍
I put an RFI in for hold down sizing at grid line D3-D7 and he told me I sunk his battleship🤔
Can you please share this set blueprint in a pdf ? I am trying to learn it from your video. Thank you.
Gotta have water to have sprinklers
May I ask what software you are using to mark the drawings? Thanks
Hey Matt can you show me, what it took you years of hard work and dedication to learn over many years, in 30 min and by the we way I won't ever open a book, let alone read and can you do it in 30 minutes so I can go straight to the top with nearly 0.0 effort on my part?
do we have any chance to get a copy of these sheets for reference ?
Good for a Canadian to learn from this? Is there much of a difference?
Yes, very beneficial. Even though as Canadians, we do much in metric…when it comes to construction..we use imperial.
Good video
How to calculate holdowns location ?
How thick are your outer walls. Sorry can’t see the drawing as I’m driving. Just listening to you
What program is this

Hello Matt.
Is your company hiring for apprentice?
Matt what’s up with the Podcast?
16D: I guess if you are a young guy you say16 dee, if you are an old timer you say 16 penny because you know where it comes from.
8D, 10D, 16D is how it's presented across plan sets though so it's where my head goes every time.
📈💯‼️
hey Matt another awesome video!in one of your previous videos you said if we wanted to see a copy of your contract you use to email you.just wondering if I can get your email so I can get a copy of your contract and look at it to see what all needs to be in it.thanks a lot much appreciated.keep the great videos coming dude!

Did u go too school for this or did ur dad show u all this stuff
My Pops showed me a good bit, but I've spent 100's of hours working on plans online. Nothing is a mystery, just takes time to sit and learn it all.
I like the video, but I have never put any engineer on a pedastal. As far as Im concerned he or she can grab a tool bag lol.
