Yes originally, Holland America Line was founded as the Dutch-American Steamship Company in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1873. It played a role in the US's development as it helped hundreds of thousands of immigrants get across the Atlantic to North America. Nowadays, it has been American owned under Carnival since 1989! That ship is the Nieuw Statendam or New Statendam (which refers to the fact that HAL once had five other ships named Statendam) and it was launched in December 2017 and christened by Oprah Winfrey in February 2019.
I love the Bahamas flag at 2:52, one of my favorite flags because of the beautiful aquamarine. The aquamarine represents the country's waters, the yellow represents the country's everlasting sunshine (and land-based sources), while the black triangle pointing towards the aquamarine and yellow represents the strength and force of the Bahamian people to cultivate the abundant natural resources on the land and in the sea.

As you saw on the aft, even the ship has a Bahamas flag. American ships tend to have foreign flags like The Bahamas or Liberia in order to avoid strict US law. This affects employment, taxes, etc. Nassau is pronounced Nass-saw. It was renamed to it from Charles Town (which was named after King Charles II) in honor of King William III who belonged to the House of Nassau. Nassau in turn is a place in the Rhineland of Germany. As you can take a guess, the Bahamas were once colonized by the British.
The Queen’s Staircase was named after Queen Victoria and were originally carved as an escape route from the fort by slaves. It wouldn’t be given a name until the 19th century, naming it after Victoria as she ended slavery in the British Empire.

lol, been to Nassau over 5 times and never made it out of town or past Señor frogs. Not my favorite port but might have to actually venture a little further after watching your vlog.

Hey Kim! It's totally worth it. If I remember correctly, it was around $150 for the whole cruise?

@@kimbaird9263 yes! For what it’s worth, it was totally worth it. Ended up being my favorite thing about the cruise and was a quiet place to get away from the busier parts of the ship.
