Z3 vs Nirvana

  • Reposted from my other channel... Here's a rundown on the differences between the Jackson Kayak Zen 3 and Nirvana. After a few years paddling the Nirvana, I picked up my new Z3 right before catching a flight to Chile. It was the final pre-production Zen 3 Medium and I paddled it nearly every day until I traveled back to the states and picked up my Z3 Small. If you've been wondering which one is right for you or what exactly is the deal with the 3rd generation Zen, I made this quick edit to help. I still love both boats and tend to be a bit partial toward the Nirvana, but the Z3 has it's place in a quiver. It shines in higher volume rivers where the Nirvana gets pushed around because of its length and in tighter streams where something small is ideal. It's also much easier to fly with than the Nirvana. Regardless of which size or design you go with, remember that both need a backed up seat position. One notch if you're mid range, two notches back if you're heavy in them... Hope this helps!

I'm a beginning kayaker who just bought a Z3. Your review reenforces the reason I selected this boat. Looking forward to getting it out on the river.

I bought a Z3 and very much agree that adding knee blocks to narrow up your knees is excellent advise. Before I did this, my knees were spread so much I found it very difficult to rolls.

Great video. I did wonder why Jackson had two boats so similar in terms of volume. As a relative older newbie I bought the Z3 because I thought it would be a river running little brother to the Nirvana but it’s more like a fat cousin. Incredibly stable and confidence building which is what I need at the moment.

5’ 11” 185 - 192lbs - I find myself between recommended paddler weight ranges often times (Medium vs Large). For class II-III overnight trips, what size Zen 3.0 would you recommend?
Love the channel and content! Keep sendin, Brother!🫵🫡🤘🛶
