    I’m planning on getting this for my birthday in a week, and run Windows 7 on it through a retail DVD. Probably gonna do programming on it, and I’m putting Windows 7 on it because I love win 7

    If anyone is interested, I have one of these SFF builds. Where the x16 slot for the graphics card is extremely close to the power supply, meaning you need a low profile single slot. For a long time those cards have always been terrible. You can now get amd rx 6400 cards that released last year. There are a few variants that are single slot, low profile, without requiring a psu pin. So they can fit into basically all of these sff builds.
    open your system, try figure out what components you have. Figure out your model and motherboard. Find the max ram speed. Mine was 2666 so i've got 2 x 8gb 2666 ram now. Completely remove the hardrive caddy if you don't intend to use a HDD. It will just give the system more space to breathe, and with it being positive pressure unless you somehow mod fans around the case, any open gap is going to help.

      Would it be possible to fit in a rx 6600 xt into the pc if I removed the PSU?

    • @kennwan9917
      @kennwan9917 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rick7122 no because the casing around the PSU would get in the way. It would require bending and breaking metal out of the way, and it wouldn't actually have a place to sit either. Got to be single slot in these builts and preferably powered off the motherboard.

    Just got an optiplex 3020 I5 for free and a poweredge t110 II XEON server for free from my job cause they upgraded. Installed 2 more GB of ram on the 3020 and installed windows 10. Its not a bad little internet surfer and video watcher. The poweredge I converted to a older gaming machine and that thing is nice still very quick

    Hay dude nicely done. You can buy a good hdd Cady that replacees the disc drive. It's the same size and shape of a laptop disc drive but you 2.5 hard drive ( or ssd ) in it and you got more storage.

    I actually just bought one of these for only $40 + tax, I am actually planning to upgrade it. The current configuration I am dealing with now is an Intel Core i5 4590 + Intel HD Graphics 4600, 4GB of DDR3 1600MHZ Ram (plan to upgrade it), a 500GB HDD, and a Wi-Fi adapter I installed myself.
    I plan to upgrade the 3020 to 16GB of ram, most likely add an SSD into it, and upgrade to dedicated graphics (GTX 1650 LP).

    I opened up a optiplex 3020 but it didn’t have a gpu in it. Is it necessary or what should I do about it?

      Not worth a mb replacement with this form factor. In theory something iTX low powered could work. If you had a DT then iTX/mATX with a TFX PSU would definitely work.

      @kennwan9917 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're still looking, look into the amd rx 6400 range. Came out last year. They've got some single slot, low profile cards that came out a year ago. Ideal for entry level 1080p gaming or e-sports kind of games, which to be fair, in these SFF builds with low ram speed capacity and no overclocking, old cpu etc. should be the aim anyway. You can find them anywhere between 100-150 quid.

    • @parkmallbaby
      @parkmallbaby ปีที่แล้ว

      The low profile GT 1030 would fit.

      I let the tech add a 500 HDD on mine. It came with 128 SSD though I had to sacrifice the disk to power the HDD. I hardly use the DVD/CD drive anyway. Everything I need can be in USB.
