Yeah, I think the main problem with a lot of other 'grim, dark, or grimdark' games is people taking them too seriously, rather than recognizing and embracing the parody.
I used to joke that Warhammer 40K was named that because you needed to earn that much a year to play it. I said that in the 90s so adjust for inflation. I love Warhammer but for real why is it not matter who owns it they drive away players with absurdly high prices
I’d love to see someone take ‘Rogue Trader,’ pick all the WH40k flesh from its bones, and use the skeleton to build an Age of Sail historical game. ‘7th Sea’ is great, but sometimes I don’t want to be a Pirate of the Caribbean or the one of King’s Musketeers. Sometimes I want to be the East India Company.
i ran a game in rouge trader once, custom frontier using a generator that automated rules from stars of inequity. long story short the party manipulated themselves to the top of a technologically advanced hive world and leveraged all the free weapons and armor tech they had gained to carve out a secessionist empire whose common infantryman was equipped with light power armor and overheating proof plasma rifles. and thats not even the most insane bullshit.
They say a starting 400 XP RY character is equivalent to a 5000xp Dhark Heresy 1e character. The problem with this is thr game is heavily reliant on dodge, which every 5000xp DH character will have pumped as high as possible while RT characters may need another few hundred XP to even unlock it depending on starting class.
I keep holding out that we'll see Rogue Trader return to Bundle of Holding or Humble Bundle...it's the only one of the FFG 40k games that I don't have complete (minus adventures) in PDF, and ship combat seems practically essential to me for any plans on running a Horus Heresy game in the system...
The grimdark future of large shoulder pads and mutated body proportions.
the 90s?
@@elmeromogollon The shoulderpads were in the 80's :D
Owlcat Games is making a CRPG!
"...as subtle as an exterminatus."
Into The Storm added the sich Arbitrator/Space Marine Judge Dredd bikes, and Kroot. I love both of these dearly.
These RPGs were quite a bit of fun; the grimdarkness usually led to a ton of dark comedy.

i am fortunate to have a complete set of all Fantasy Flight books, subbing through my LCS

I used to joke that it was a dollar a a point to play. I never expected that to become reality
What a wonderful summary of my favorite setting. RT era warhammer is why I am in the hobby.

I hate that everything Warhammer is like middle class or above only. Like bruh part of why we game is because it costs imagination not more cash
