Gender not meaning the same thing as sex and race not meaning the same thing as ethnicity is a difference many people do not cover, and when many people refer to race or gender, they mean ethnicity or sex. And in years past, nobody gave them grief for using these definitions. People act as though the usage of the terms hasn’t greatly changed in recent years among specific groups. And because of this, you have people arguing something to be correct from the old definitions with people arguing something to be correct from the new definitions.

I will not be going back, and I'm doing my best to connect with local communities so that I can help others grapple with the very real gender problems many of them face. Even though it's terrifying and disgusting when I talk with people around me who were duped into following a demagogue or outright deny my existence, there are still enough bright lights for me to have hope. Frankly I don't think that we're farther than we've ever been to moving past gendered struggles and rigid aherence to structural problems with society. We are still of course far, *far* from getting there but as with most social gains we will have to suffer so the ones who follow will prosper. It's not easy and likely never will be, but I think and hope that this is the last gasp of bigoted resistance before change can occur. 03:00 to 03:25 and 06:28 - I think the main thing is not to get so caught up on what something MEANS that we don't catch what it's DOING. I think it was in Machiavelli's "The Prince" that I first found it most clearly stated that any grab for power would benefit most from appealing to pre-existing status quos. Where I found that a few years ago was in how some trans people might get really into (too into) the histories of being spiritual authorities according to some pre-colonial customs, whereas other trans people criticize that like "stop saying we were sacred, we were and are normal; 'sacred' only means 'fetishized'!" And I understand the frustration from the perspective of trying to dig into what that means or should mean-and not contextualizing the application of that narrative. When the Lady Gaga song by the title I'm about to mention was released, I was actually against the idea of "Born This Way" because queer people were repeating that to each other as a way to consolidate subculture understanding. I saw that as only effectively applied in argument with the right-wing sound byte that claims queerness "isn't inborn, it's formed via (lightning flash) recruitment (thunderclap, heavy rain, fainting, etc)" and blah is why Heartstopper should be in the restricted section of a library blah blah. To me, at a time like this and back then...awareness of these narratives and ideas are so that they can be wielded, not internalized. Two more memorable tidbits from The Prince that I think might be useful: according to Machiavelli, getting the support of most common people via numbers is easy because the peasant mentality is that we only want to know where the next meal is coming from and to not be abused or oppressed. Machiavelli says it is EASY to give that much to people-it is SO easy. It's the people with aristocratic mentality that needs to be watched out for, because even when they're fed and comfortable and safe, aristocrats will still always want more power or more status and be willing to harm everyone else and themselves to get at it: people with aristocrat-mentality live in constant manufactured conflict. The Aristocrats.

This is extremely off topic but today in my civics class we watched a Hamilton cabinet rap battle clip to understand political parties and all I could think about was your video on Hamilton 😭
I always have a tremendous amount of respect for your analysis, and I know this video is also very much about the practical question of "what now?" But in your description of fascism as not being able to cope with conflict, I don't know... I have not thought this through, I don't have my own comprehensive analysis of fascism down. But I know, or rather I seem to recollect that the fascism of the early 20th century often explicitly embraced conflict as part of the natural order. Kind of "might makes right" made ethical, but of course only if it was the might of my side. I do agree, though, that fascism always seem to carry this mirage of a perfect conflict-free world with it that it is striving to get 'back' to, somehow. Conflict-free for the chosen people, I think. I read something long ago by Donna Haraway, I think, where she argued against striving for 'healing' and for striving for 'regeneration'. Or something. Maybe it was the Cyborg Manifesto or a related text. But it is close to what you are saying. The perfect, conflict-free, ideal will never be realized. But things can be better or worse, and we can discern the difference, and we can work to make them better.

I also live in Florida and it makes me so upset how red it is now but also I think it’s still worth remembering that 43% of us (over 4.6 million people) voted blue. Even though our leadership sucks there’s still lots of good people that live here that are trying to fix it
i go out and see trump flags and stickers and whatever, but itll never make me forget just how many of us are queer and trans and stuff, we are everywhere here and we gotta be louder ❤️ Being in florida is so hard but we can never be silenced
It'll mostly consist of island hopping between safe areas and avoiding the middle. It's a shame actually because anywhere you go most people are nice and mostly want to learn about people they don't know much about, but if the jurisdiction might throw you in jail for using the bathroom or you might get assaulted and know that first responders won't help you it's just not even safe to set foot there.
Even just surviving is a form of resistance. It won't feel like living, but giving up is what they want you to do
This is going to be one hell of a ride. And by that I mean: this ride is going to be hell.
Your allusion to Fukuyama's The End of History reminds me: I heard a story from someone who saw him speak after 9/11 and said he was like 'sorry guys I guess it just keeps happening'
Well said as I expected it to be. I've been avoiding most commentary but knows you would have something worth hearing. Someone sent me the most recent episode of a podcast called We Can Don Hard Things. The episode is titled Post selection Family Meeting. Wasn't a fan of all of it but some very good points about being in community were made.
From each according to their ability, to each according to their need. Some cannot fight the same way others will, some will need greater support and shelter.
Resist everything you can, in every way you can. Band together, form "Colonies" and "Strongholds" Safe Havens.
Hell if the far right can build compounds why can't you, your lives are being threatened directly, respond in equal measure.

For the time being Canada is marginally safer, please feel free to try and come north; We're about a decade behind on Fascist policy giving us (you and Canadians) a little more time to organize and fight this.
0:53 we can only hope for such a magnificent perfect world.
Great video. Guys, go get organized. Our collective strength is our power!
As a trans femme person, subscribed.
We have to do it ourselves... Yup.

Hey, fellows from the US, hugs from brazil! During the pandemic, we passed through something similar here, and many many fellow trans comrades have been going mad since then. But as some might say around, surviving is rebeling against what is currently happening. So, in the face of the danger, please scream. Even if you can't say the name of it, something is really wrong and trying to change it is really brave. Y'all will do it, and then it will be alright. Kisses!
I never thought the call of making local communities as a way of protection against a world that has the weapons to damage us fr, I always heard is as a way to make people care about others and, in a future, make solidarity the common way of thinking.
I'm kinda scared rn ngl.
it's so rare to hear good political anarchy takes online. nice.
DUDE. YOU. PLEASE STAY SAFE, MAN. ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for this, really appreciate it
8:01 How dare you clock me like that. 😂❤
More like "unnatural" order.
love from australia
JUST realized I was trans and now this. I started T last week, and was so excited. But now I'm freaking out. I live in a red state and bought my first house at the start of the year. I'm cooked. 💀

🔥💯🔥
I'm not american and i don't know what leaving a red state would do for queer people. Yeah a lot of stuff is decided by the states but Trump is the president and can decide things for all states, right?
Take your friends to Europe
You're all done. You'll all soon be as relevant as a payphone and a phone book. Good riddance, you bunch of freaks. Trump is your Daddy now. 😂
I'm so tired of explaining why he's the norm of america like bush and Reagan were, acting as if he's the exception only legitimates the american horrors of times without american cyclic populism i will just link an explanation istead
